Vander Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Well, assuming you could swallow a sword that dissolves you into smoke if you get scratched... Yeah, you'd basically be able to defeat anybody short of a Shard, and maybe even that. ... Well, the metal Nightblood is made of. Nightblood: The Chuck Norris of the Cosmere. Or would that be the Nightblood-Vasher partnership?
DSC01 he/him Posted December 20, 2015 Posted December 20, 2015 Maybe not as awesome as one might think. Nightblood is so powerful because of the Investiture within him. It might be difficult to burn the metal in a way that accessed that Investiture. Things get complicated there because it's probably somewhat like Compounding. The question is whether you'd face the barrier of the Investiture being keyed to an individual, as when one burns a metalmind. Of course, Breaths don't work like Feruchemy. Anyone can use a Breath; Identity isn't really an issue. But if you tried to hack the magic system and use it in a distinctly Scadrian way, maybe Identity would become a factor. And then Nightblood's metal would basically be useless allomantically because of the thousands of Identities connected to the Investiture within. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that this speculating belongs in the Cosmere Theories board, but I'm confident that nothing that I've said counts as a spoiler, since it's probably totally incomprehensible.

Hmm... Well, I need to read Mistborn. damnation, I hope that book comes in soon.
Ari he/him Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 We know Shardblades are made of god metals, being the solid form of Splinters of Honour and Cultivation, (presumably Tanavastium is involved, with some of them alloyed with or composed purely of whatever Cultivation's metal is called, when we find out her name) so if you managed to tear a piece off one, it would burn like any other god metal. (In the case of Shardblades, however, the hemalurgical application are probably the more interesting part) If Shardplate is made of Spren in any way, they presumably burn just the same, which might be an easier way to get your hands on tanavastium. Unsure whether it would regrow under those circumstances though.
Stormgate he/him Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 We also have the problem of SWALLOWING A STORMING BLADE THE SIZE OF A GROWN MAN. I know it's light, but any Mistborn able to swallow a Shardblade has a mouth comparable to that of a chasmfiend.
Oversleep Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 btw, why do Allomancers burn the metals specifically in stomach? Could they burn it while swallowing? Or if it went to instestine already? Did somebody ask Brandon this?
natc Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 (edited) IIRC, if it is their body at all it will burn. Apparently an Inquisitor can just burn his spikes, though it will hurt like hell. I think the main reason is that the simplest and most traditional way to put metal into yourself is to gulp it down, so it's probably going to be in your stomach anyway. I'm sure if you were crazy enough to inject metal into your blood it will work. Meaning you can burn a shardblade by stabbing yourself with i-oh wait. That's no good. Edited December 23, 2015 by natc
Stormgate he/him Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Maybe you can turn it into a dagger (assuming living spren) and just stick it in your mouth.
DreamEternal Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Maybe you can turn it into a dagger (assuming living spren) and just stick it in your mouth. Wont the spren be able to resist being burned? After all, when a metal burns it is because of Preservation's investiture flowing throught it, so maybe a living spren would be able to push against that investiture or alter the crystaline structure of its solid form as to make burning impossible. Or just stop being solid. I guess this also kinda answers what would happen if someone tried to burn Nightblood: it would just eat the investiture instead of being vaporized.
VoltCruelerz he/him Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 (edited) Turn your spren into a pill shaped shard blade and break your oaths. Now you should have a safe to burn hunk of tanavastium. If Shardplate is of cultivation, just break off a small chunk of it. Edited December 23, 2015 by VoltCruelerz 1

'Yeah, I established a bond with another sapient being, we're connected mentally and spiritually and now I will just break my oaths which represent me, the way I live and the way I choose to live, just to eat and burn its corpse because I want to find out what happens...' - some jerkass Mistborn Knight Radiant 3
natc Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Assuming dead blades don't simply shift back to blade form automatically. 1
Stormgate he/him Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 Yeah... Only to be attempted by the worst members of the Dark Alley.

It's a bloody shardblade you dolt.
Guest Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 You grt a hole in your stomach. It's a bloody shardblade you dolt. Hilt first, or put on of those Shardblade safety straps over the cutting edge
The Honor Spren she/her Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) Since it seems impossible to derail this thread more than it already has been . . . Anyone want a shardblade? It's the most cutting edge technology we have right now! I'll see myself out. Edited December 30, 2015 by The Honor Spren 1
Stormgate he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Hilt first, or put on of those Shardblade safety straps over the cutting edge The safety strap of a Shardblade is aluminum.
Yata he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 The safety strap of a Shardblade is aluminum. A Shardblade cut throught the Allumin. Anyway any rigid material may be used as Safety Strap for a Shardblade. It only need a side-blockage.
DreamEternal Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 The safety strap of a Shardblade is aluminum. Do we know that gor sure? If not, don't post it like it was obvious. As for shardblade swallowing, you are probably a crazy kandra allomancer anyway. Or an abomination of the dark alley. Most likely both.
Guest Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 The safety strap of a Shardblade is aluminum. Kaladin nodded his chin at it. “What’s that on the Blade?” “Nobody’s sure,” Zahel said, swiping with the Blade. “Fit it to the edges of a Blade, and it will adapt to the shape of the weapon and make it safely blunt. Off the weapons, they break surprisingly easily. That's not a description of Aluminum. Aluminum is ductile, it would bend, not break.
Stormgate he/him Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Dang. Well, what in the tenth name of the Almighty are they?
natc Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Well it seems it outright shapeshifts to match the blade, so . . . oathgate-keyhole-stuff? 1
Oversleep Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Stormgate, 'checking before assuming'! Maybe it would help us if we listed everything which seems to be made from 'Shardblade material'? Shardblades, obviously. We know that they are a form a spren assumes when its pulled enough in Physical Realm Shardplates Oathgates possibly more Radiant fabrials like Oathgates? Am I missing something?
