Swimmingly he/him Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 http://brandonsanderson.com/books/the-stormlight-archive/words-of-radiance/ I can't really think of any other way to interpret this. Please cease arguing, unless you have a conflicting theory, in which case, let's hear it cause it will be something indeed
Moogle Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 This is your daily Moogle reminder that if Bondsmiths are not Order 10 I will eat my hat. I don't actually own a hat, which means I might have to buy one. The only other option is 8, and I am interested in theories that reconcile the fact that Order 8 has Transportation with the name Bondsmith.
Chaos he/him Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 (edited) I've been waiting for that back cover! Unless I've just missed this before. I love those mysterious writings from that person who we still don't know... Mistborn spoilers. I love that this person describes magic exactly as Brandon did when Vin took up the power: So when a person is burning metals, they aren't using Preservation's body as a fuel so to speak—though they are tapping into the powers of creation just slightly. When Vin burns the mists, however, she'd doing just that—using the essence of Preservation, the Shard of Adonalsium itself—to fuel Allomancy. Doing this, however, rips 'troughs' through her body. It's like forcing far too much pressure through a very small, fragile hose. That much power eventually vaporizes the corporeal host, which is acting as the block and forcing the power into a single type of conduit (Allomancy) and frees it to be more expansive. So that's kind of ominous, but awesome. EDIT: The synopsis is also good because it is the second time the war is actually called the War of Reckoning. Edited December 6, 2013 by Chaos
Pechvarry Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 (edited) More mistborn spoilers Sounds more like Snapping to me. But now that I think on it, it's probably all the same concept. On a small scale, you Snap allomancers and bind surgebinders, add the body of a god to the equation and you have anew Shard. Edited December 6, 2013 by Pechvarry

Someone postulated in either the I Told You So Forum or the Signing where Brandon confirmed a lot of spots on the Heraldic Table that the Transporation surge could pertain to summoning Blades and armor. Remember in one of Danilars visions it seemed the KR could summon pieces of plate as well as blades.

The bonds might not be exclusively physical. Part of the bonding and building could be connections between groups and people. It certainly seems that way w/Dalinar. Transportation would absolutely help bonds between people and groups. 1
Swimmingly he/him Posted December 6, 2013 Author Posted December 6, 2013 But Surface tension has to do explicitly with the manipulation of materials, which really brings the Smith part of Bondsmith to mind for me. Also, Dalinar just gave up his Shards. I'm guessing an ability that can turn a piece of fabric into a hard, thin, Stormlight infused, deadly edge is going to come in useful.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I have to say, I just thought of this, I don't think Dalinar has the Surface Tension surge, or at least will not learn to use it in WoR. My reasoning for this is that when asked about the Surgebinding table, Brandon was always hesitant about that surge and said that that wasn't the real name, he still hadn't figured that out yet. So if Dalinar is the Bondsmith, he either doesn't have that surge or doesn't learn how to use it specifically.
bartbug he/him Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 First Thoughts: Dammit. All of this theorizing, just to have it given away on the freaking back flap. Oh, well. At least there's still Renarin.
11thorderknight Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Didn't people show Brandon the Radiant Chart with the theorized order and surge names on it, and he confirmed it as correct? That chart has Bondsmiths as #8, and "surface tension" as 8/9 (As an aside, I'm going to call it the "Shape" surge until we find out its real name).

WeiryWriter he/him Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Hey guys what Order is Taln? Order 9/Stonewards
11thorderknight Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 The location of Bondsmiths was not Confirmed and "Surface Tension" was corrected by Peter to be 9/10 Interesting. Ever since finding out that "Bondsmiths" were an order and "surface tension" was a surge, I had assumed they went together, since the name fits so well. So if ST is 9/10, I would strongly assume Bondsmiths were order 10 as well. That leaves order 8, with Transportation and a mystery surge.
11thorderknight Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Here's the source that says their order is, as of yet, unconfirmed. This chart shows Pressure to be surge 10/1, and Gravity to be 1/2. This is the opposite of what a previous version had. I feel like Pressure makes more sense to be shared with the Skybreakers than Gravity does.
Windrunner he/him Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Peter's specifically said that Gravity and Pressure needed to be switched on their chart, which used to have Pressure with the Skybreakers. So Gravity is the shared Surge between the Skybreakers and the Windrunners.

So Gravity is the shared Surge between the Skybreakers and the Windrunners. That actually makes sense; it means that the Skybreakers will be able to fly like the Windrunners. Makes sense for an order with the word Sky in their name.

I feel like Pressure makes more sense to be shared with the Skybreakers than Gravity does. I agree. When I first heard about it, because of both orders having the essence of smoke/normal air. However, it's not the case, and I think Gravity also works for an order named Skybreakers.
Fistsofrage Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Hmm, Dalinar as a Bondsmith being teamed up with Navani...I see infinite possibilities...
