Greetings from the Tardis. And Camelot. And the back of the Impala that suspiciously has wifi. And from the Argo ll.

Yeah...

So! As you can see, I come from all over the interweb. Places wide and far, mostly tv shows of course. Then one day at Barnes and Noble, I saw a giant book. This huge paperback. It was the start of summer so I figured I should read something big, a challenge. So I picked it up, read the back. Was instantly slightly confused. Read the prologue, still confused. So I put it back, thinking to find another book. A few seconds after that, my mom tells me that time's up, we have to go, you better have a book by now. I, of course, had no book.I ran back, grabbed the huge paperback, and brought it up, having conveniently forgotten the five dollar limit. I still manage to get it.

Somehow, the paperback ends up on the shelf, left unread until school when I need to read. Three weeks later, I finish it, and I'm begging my mom to go back for the sequel. Three days after that, I get the sequel. Two days after that, I'm done with it and scouring the interweb for any trace of Stormlight Archive. And here I am.

So, hello.

I have a question though, do we have a fan name?

Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard. The more Cosmere-aware fans are often called Sharders. More generally, we are known as Sanderfans.

What's the Cosmere, you ask? Many of Brandon Sanderson's books are set in one universe and have magic systems that generally work on the same principles. You can check it out here, but I suggest you read a few more of his books before doing so. Start with Mistborn.

I, too, am a Doctor Who fan, and I want to watch Supernatural and Merlin but I haven't had time yet. This Christmas, hopefully.

Welcome! I hope you have fun here!

EDIT: I just realized that the title of this topic literally says the word Cosmere. You don't need me to blather on about it. Sorry.

It's alright, a few seconds before making this post I had looked up Cosmere. It took me a few more minutes to figure out CFSBF, however.

You watch Doctor? Yesh! I knew we were everywhere.

As for Supernatural and Merlin... well Supernatural get dark, and Merlin is amazing.

Thanks, I hope I have fun here too.

To explain the Cosmere, we need to explain the Realmatic Theory, Hoid, Adonalsium, the Shattering, Odium...

Basically, from a nonlinear, nonperspective point of view, the Cosmere is a big ball of wibbly wobbly, Shardy-wards...stuff.

That sentence got away from you, didn't it?

Anyway, would you like a jelly baby? Or a banana?

Welcome to the insanity that we fondly refer to as the Seventeenth Shard.
So what have you read so far? Just Stormlight?

Also, would you care for a welcome-cookie?

Posted

Yup, just Stormlight so far, I'm hoping to get Mistborn soon, though. I'll take the cookie... I guess.

And fish sticks and custard, thank you Stick!

Mistborn is a great read, though Stormlight has slightly better writing for the most part since it was written after Brandon finished the Wheel of Time series which I think helped him a lot.
Elantris is one I usually recommend people read early, it's his first published work and there are a few things that are off about the pacing and such but it's still a great read.
But I love all of his books so I just recommend you read all of them really :P

Well, ebooks are cheaper. And library cards are even cheaper than that. My area alone has 3 or 4 libraries that I frequent (one for the town, one for the big city nearby, one big one throughout the county, and the school library). You should be able to find most of them in one of the ones nearby, though I'm sure some will be missing. Even then, you can ask the library to order the missing book and they usually will.

Libraries are awesome.
