Kindle Version difficulties

I've been having the same issues.  I even went to the "Manage Your Content and Devices" page on Amazon, and clicked on the "Update" button for Elantris.  I've deleted the file from my iPhone and downloaded it again.  I've hit "Sync" on my iPhone so many times my phone thinks it's YouTube now. 

 

Nothing.  I still have the old file.  No new foreword.  No new maps.  No new appendix.  

 

Meh.

The ebook will update to this text, and if you’ve purchased Elantris in ebook you will get the tenth anniversary edition for free. On some ebook platforms like iBooks the update should happen automatically, and on other platforms like Kindle you have to email customer support and ask them to update your file. If—for some reason—you want to preserve the old text, you might want to make a backup of the file. (Tor books are DRM-free, so you should be able to do this.)

FWIW, on iBooks, the update did not happen until late last night/early this morning. I checked on it all throughout yesterday, up until at least 11pm EST and the update still wasn't available. However, it was available by 8am EST. I have a feeling updates are on a much lower priority with the iBooks/Kindle than new releases.

No joy so far.  Here's what the customer service rep replied with:

I understand your concern that you'd like to get the updated version of the Kindle book "Elantris." 

To help you with this I've made research with your account and with our website, but we're unable to find  any update version for theis Kindle book "Elantris". So in this case, we're unable to update the Kindle book.  

Please be informed that, once the content has get updated you'll receive an official announcements. I hope you understand. 

If you’d like to automatically receive updates to your Kindle books that we have confirmed improvements were made in, you can turn on automatic updates for your books from the Manage Your Content and Devices page. 

Before you enable the Automatic Book Update feature, make sure Whispersync for Books (Annotations Backup) is turned on for your device or Kindle reading app to sync your notes, highlights, bookmarks, and furthest page read. Whispersync for Books (Annotations Backup) is enabled automatically on Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire HDX, Kindle for Windows 8, and Kindle for BlackBerry 10 and can't be turned off. 

To enable Automatic Book Updates: 

1.  Go to Manage Your Content and Devices. 
2.  Select the Settings tab. 
3.  Select "On" under Automatic Book Update.

Amazon received it on Monday. But I'll keep talking to Tor about it.

 

Amazon is showing the new cover for the ebook on their website, but if you click on "Look Inside" it shows only the old text. So it would seem they have not applied their update yet. It's probably not worth trying to contact customer support until after Look Inside starts showing the new text. (You will be able to tell because of the maps change.)

This would be the cover that loudly proclaims "10000 Words of Bonus Content!" In a nifty little seal thing? Amazon really needs to be more careful about that.

Ha, I never noticed that typo.

 

And on a new topic (sorry, I was not sure where to bring this up, and this seems as good a place as any), how do I confirm that the version of "Words of Radiance" I have is the new and updated version with the changed Kaladin / Szeth sequence?  Is there a page number I can quickly look at with changes for confirmation?

Update on the Kindle version.

 

My Kindle library now shows the cover with the "Author's Tenth Anniversary Definitive Edition" subtitle.  However, the interior pages seem to be the same as it was.  No new maps, no foreword, etc. 

 

I'll wait until Peter Ahlstrom informs us that the inside pages have been updated and changed, then try again.

Weird how they're responding so differently to people. I got a very positive reply, although I now have the new cover with the old ebook.

"I'm sorry to know that you did not receive the 10th Anniversary edition for the eBook "Elantris, by Brandon Sanderson".

We don't want our customers to face these types of issues.

Success! I called the help line and confronted them with the issue of the mismatched cover, and they cleared it up right away. The person also suggested that anyone with the problem delete and redownload the book(from both cloud and device) and if that doesn't work, the helpline knows it's an issue now, so they should be able to help.

I now have the new Tenth Anniversary edition version of Elantris on my Kindle devices.  So it looks like the problem is all sorted out.  

 

Basically, to get your version updated, just contact Kindle Support and inform them that you want to update.  Wait about a day, then it should be available.  You might need to delete the old copy from your device and download it again to get the new version.
