You have no idea.

One time I came back after a two week absense and there were 2 entirely new question threads...

Those were the glory days. Maybe a tiny bit fast.

Voidus, do you actually want to look into some backstory connection between Seastrider and Shiny Sparkle? (They even both abriviate to SS. )

Guys I am thinking about putting Bird of PAradise in Corvallis instead of Salem since Salem is more about action and Corvallis isn't as action packed which fits Bird better I think. If I choose Corvallis i will still start in Salem with a different Epic because I want to read Corvallis before starting there and that is going to take a while.

Oh, I see some stuff is happening in Salem! Now only a few more years until it is night, and Morpheus paints the town brown as they all rust their pants.

It's actually the afternoon now, I think. The fights are over, and we can do some character interaction before night comes.

 Salem's on a pretty tight leash right now. Have you talked to Voidus about whatever it is you plan to do?

bam! I am back...

OK! so, I must explain the steelheart encounter.

its actually quite simple.

he got cocky.

tried to kill steelheart.

steelheart didnt appreciate getting shot in the face with a portal gun while flying through the city on one of his "parades".

People died.

Mark broke his leg and portal-ed his way out of there

Steelheart had parades? I thought he spent most of his time holed up in his palace out of paranoia, save for when he attacked and killed random civilians for those recorded messages used to keep his people nice and fearful.

Even if he did have parades (which, again, I don't think he did) he wouldn't have let a little thing like a portal gun stand in his way of vengeance. IF the hunter managed to escape (a big if, even with a motivator on his side) Steelheart would have pulled every string he had to find him. One way or another, he'd be dead after an encounter like that.

Would you plan on having Bird be a resident of the city already, or a new arrival? Some Epics were let in just now in game-time so a new arrival works in that sense.

Actually Steelheart and his two bodyguards did have parades- the book mentions them flying around in formation, although they always pretended that they were actually on business.

Ah, okay. I thought of parades as in the festive kind.

In that case, him attacking them is even worse because he's not attacking one Epic, but three, one of whom could have broken his PG remotely with a shadow, one of whom could have used an energy blast, and one of whom is a canon character who certainly would have remembered the attack and mentioned it to David. (If you're talking about Firefight, anyway.)

Whatever the case, the Hunter wouldn't leave that encounter alive.

He definitely had parades, of a sort.

"Here," I said, "take a look at these." I got out a sequence of five photos, a rapid-fire series of shots capturing a few moments. The scene was Steelheart flying through the city with a procession of his minions. He did that sometimes. Though he always looked like he was going somewhere important, I suspected these were really just his version of a parade.

Personally though, I suspect that these were not widely publicized and wouldn't have occurred in the latter part of his reign, when Big S's paranoia was at its peak.

I agree with Twi and the others though, warrior. I feel like too much emphasis is being placed on the Hunter's badchullery as opposed to his goals, motivations, and realistic character flaws.

In addition, didn't we agree not to allow any new motivator-using characters?

not really Parades, David just calls them that because he's fairly certain that's what they are.

mainly a "Parade" consists of steelheart and his lieutenants flying around the city, looking important.

another thing about the hunter. he's practically a ghost. he's in he's out. if something goes wrong he's gone before anyone knows he was there. also steelheart started blowing things up and that russles up all kinds of confusion. A lot of people died and mark never returned to Newcago.

and again perhaps we could say he could hack into the newcago database and delete whatever info they have on him.

edit :its also noted many times that many people tried to kill steelheart.

We did, but it slipped my mind momentarily. Just put the motivator thing on hold for now, warrior.

And to second what Kobold said, you're going overboard with the badchullery here, taking him past ththe point of breaking canon and suspension of disbelief. Why don't you tone it down quite a bit and work on making him more ordinary? Make him a normal guy of normal intelligence who uses normal weapons to hunt down maybe one or two Epics he has a personal vendetta against. That would be a more realistic (and in my opinion, interesting) character.

Warrior, I suggest you read about Remington Springfield in Portland/Dalles(Twi can probably give you a couple of good posts to read, the Pebble in his Boot one is pretty good) or Max(as a lesser example) in Portland, or even Nathan or Sam in Portland, for examples, in the case of the first two, of badchull regulars who aren't OP and take the story too far. The second two examples show regulars who aren't badchull at all, really, but they are some of the most interesting characters in our RP. Mark doesn't need all this extra, shiny stuff. Make him into a real person. Someone you could actually meet.

sigh...

okay then. badchullery gone.

he does has a personal beef with an epic named DawnStrike, who thinks mark killed his sister (also an epic).

I'll give you those thought out profiles later.

Like Mailliw said, he doesn't have to be unusually strong or intelligent to be badchull. I actually think he'd be more badchull if you cut out all the extra stuff and made him an ordinary man who uses all of his wits and to go after DawnStrike for completely ordinary reasons.

Precisely. And then he could finally kill her through mundane means made awesome, like ramming her with a car stuffed full of her weakness.

Thanks, warrior. We're sorry if we're being kind of rude.

bah! I can never be angry at someone who beats me in an argument.

... and I guess that all that epic tech made him a little too batman, didn't it?

and um, dawnstrikes a guy.

"Are you sure you're a guy?"

"Yes, you insignificant slug, I am a man!"

"'Cause I heard you were a girl."

"No, you sniveling shred of normalcy, I am a man. I have a villainous goatee and everything!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, you spineless brainless sack of easily broken bones! I am a man!"

"Cool, just checking. Just wanted to get you to hold still long enough for our murdermobile to get here."

"Your what?"

* pink convertible laden with barbie dolls with mustaches scribbled on them crashes into Dawnstrike *

On that note, Question thread, which characters of mine need posts? Arsenal, Vondra, and maybe Deathwish I know--what about Sam and Revolution?

That's the same thing driving Max, and I think it works fine. Max's talent is that he's a good marksman, he knows people in the underground, and now he's meeting the Reckoners. That's it. Nothing else about him is all that special, except his refusal to give in. Mark could be much the same way.

And then DawnStrike died. -_-

Lightwards needs to answer the Unicyclist, but that's the only other one I can think of.

There's been a Unicyclist reply? Gee, I am behind, aren't I? :o

I literally just picked myself off the ground, I was laughing so hard.

are we certain about the portal gun though? I mean, they kinda bought something like it in steelheart. the Gauss gun? (or something like that).

He nodded a page or so back.

Yes, but that was super freaking expensive and took so much juice to operate that they literally had to rob a power plant to get the fuel cells. He'll be more interesting without the portal gun, if he's forced to rely on his wits to get out of tight scrapes.
