That would be amazing.

I've read some of it, and it was....meh. Some good, but mostly just a combination of other popular books and whatnot with few original twists. The snark goes through and points out flaws and holes, as well as the good, which I find helpful for my own writing.

Now, which of those Silvers would do a good job of beating up Nighthound?

Who is this snark you speak of, some kind of protagonist?

Yeesh, I don't know. I don't think any of them really have powers suited to it. Although, there is one who stands a chance of setting off his weakness….

The thing about these Silvers, though, is that they're all ridiculously overpowered—but those powers haven't really affected the world in any meaningful way. They're the ruling class, yes, and there are some Silvers who use their powers to torment the Reds (which doesn't help me separate them from Epics at all) but their nation is in the middle of a hundred-year-long war, and instead of using their powers to turn the tide or even just have their rulers duel, they keep throwing Red soldiers at each other. No one has even thought to use a surprise attack where they send in a Silver girl who's basically Magneto to crush the opposing army's tanks. The worldbuilding is just really poorly thought out.

Nah, just someone on the internet who sporks it. Here's the link.

...So essentially they are taking the arrogance and cowardice of Epics, turn it up a couple of notches and infuse it with decadence. Great guys Ibet. <_<

Thanks, I'll take a look. Although I prefer my image of Hoid narrating the novel.  :P

Pretty much, yeah. <_< And while I like the idea of superpowers as a metaphor for—well—power instead of discrimination, Reckoners does it so much better.

I can't think of many novels that wouldn't be improved by adding Hoid as a narrator.

Yeah, I always wondered how a character almost literally being able to kill with a look was supposed to equate to skin color. Now of course mutants are still humans and should be treated as such but so are people wielding guns and in large parts of the world, those are regulated as well.

Well, Wayne's narrative in the Wild West Mistborn books (not the offical name, sadly) is pretty entertaining.

It makes more sense when you factor in the Sentinels, but IIRC those didn't appear until the X-Men comics had been running for a few years, and in both movies and comics, they're shown to pose a threat to only the less-powerful mutants. Heck, Magneto can take care of an entire fleet of Sentinels on his own, Xavier can just mind-control a few key members of Trask's constituency into petitioning for a recall, Mystique can pose as a rival Senator and make some compelling arguments against unleashing murderbots on American soil (and seriously, with all the debate over armed drones, how did Trask justify his Murderbot Initiative?)….basically, the odds are firmly in mutantkind's favor, so it'd make more sense to have the roles reversed.

I've seen Wayne's fanbase and it has made me look forward to reading his books.

To be fair, a lot of modern day fantasy and comics tend to underestimate just how devasting modern tecnology can be but it's still quite a difference for a random person to hold this power.

He has the ultimate power of getting a pickly by adding two and two together.

As fot the last Portland post.

Funtimes was still hugging Voidgaze,

me before that

Voidgaze took the chance to carefully slip out of Funtimes's grip.

Somehow I'm not feeling the continuity here.

True.

This sounds like a very powerful power.

Blargh. I'd blame the cough drops again, but I've only had one today, so I've got no one to blame but myself. <_< I'll go fix it.

And fixed.

Then there's his other skills that shall not be described to avoid spoilers but nothing reaches the power of anti-logic!

Not a problem, I just wondered if maybe you didn't see the last post, given that Nathan didn't even react to Voidgaze's little blush-rant.

The most logical villain is powerless in the face of he who uses none! :P

I did, but I for some reason didn't incorporate it. I will once again blame all society's ills on cough drops, and see if there's some way to fix it while the anti-cough-drop protests rage.:P

It would be hilarious if Funtimes was like "shush sweety you're distracting me from Voidgaze being adorable." :P

For some reason, I'm reminded of a cartoon called Fairly OddParents, about a boy with fairy godparents. In one of the specials, he wishes Tom Sawyer out of his book so he can write a report about him, but Tom winds up getting ahold of one of the fairy wands and going from book to book, changing things—for instance, Moby Dick becomes Moby Duck, where Captain Ahab faces down a giant rubber duck. Well, the fairies realize Tom will eventually make it to Astrophysics for Dummies, which would be a disaster because in their words, "He could turn gravity in to gravy! He could turn planets into plants! He could turn Uranus into—OH NO, WE'VE GOT TO STOP HIM!"

I remember that episode. Those puns work less in a german translation.

Hey Twi, did you take down the last Funtimes post? It shows up on my notifications but I can't see it. I'm not sure if it's been taken down or if my computer has just started the machine rebellion, starting for some inexplicable reason with hiding people's RP posts from me.:P

It seems like they would. Funny episode, though I prefer Channel Chasers myself.

Almost didn't catch that. I'm having a great time imaging the look on Nathan's face.

Anyway, Kobold do you want to go next in the scene?

On other news, I just read the spork of the first chapter of that Red Queen book... I'm not exactly impressed with the Silvers at this point. Like that entire fight was a forgone conclusion and utterly pointless. <_<

Glad I could provide you with amusement.

Same here. It's like, I get what the author is going for, but Brandon's method of having the Epics kill random bystanders for the lolz or no reason at all was a far more effective way of making them out to be heartless tyrants. With the Epics, anyone immediately understands why they've been in power. With the Silvers, I started to wonder why the Reds haven't revolted already. I mean, it's not like they use their powers for anything but arena fights; couldn't a bunch of Reds just skip the storming thing and take over a city while the two superpowered demigods are distracted?

Always you do.

Really, I don't know if there are stronger Silvers in the book but I guess there's a reason the Steelheart prologue wasn't about Curveball fighting Refrationary. At this point they should be able to just kill them head on. Super strenght with nothing else isn't all that useful in the age of fire arms. Now, mind control is a bit more tricky but nothing a halfway decent sniper/suprise attack couldn't take care of.

Aww. ^_^

There are some stronger powers and ones more suited to combat—for instance, here in a few chapters you'll meet Evangeline, who is basically fem!Magneto. The princes all have the ability to manipulate and amplify fire. And none of them use their powers in a manner halfway suited to wartime or even maintaining control of a kingdom. It's all shock and awe. And the Reds just take it! I mean, c'mon, I know that the idea of a prince who can fry you where you stand is terrifying, but he's clearly not going to. <_<

Also, I am finding the idea of a prologue where Curveball and Refractionary sabotage one another during a bank robbery oddly amusing.

So still no PIs?

None I've seen so far. The closest this world seems to have is Silvers who can heal, and since there's no rule against it, a Silver who can't heal can be easily mended by one who can. But….it seems no one has thought of the revolutionary idea of locking the healing Silvers in a room with a reinforced steel door and shooting the rest.

Can they heal (from) leathal wounds?

Anyway, The Final Empire and the FSA at least have reasons why the evil dictators keep ruling. They are just that beyond conventional weaponary. There have been several rebellions in the Final Empire and not a single one could stand up to the Lord Ruler or his magaically enhanced armies (plus they didn't have guns and explosives), even in the end a rebellion had fairly little to do with his death, that was all Vin and her Deus ex nebula.

With the FSA there are people fighting back and they even have a good amount of success given their position, given weakness the attacks on them just have to be to precise for armies to do the trick.

This... seems to be one of the YA distopian settings that will collaps with the first rebellion that should have come years ago.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but be careful what you say Edge. I don't think Twi has finished The Final Empire yet. ;)

Anyway, I can try to get a Portland post up later. We'll see how Revolution copes with being scolded by the Element of Subtle Lifesaving Intervention. :P
