The general 17S policy is no public discussion for any unpublished works, for a few reasons.  One is to keep things fair to those who aren't able to read it.  Also, to help avoid any accidental spoilers.

You are welcome to discuss it with other members through private message, and I've heard there's a few of them out there.

It's been brought up that we could, theoretically, have a locked board where only people who have read the book can access it. There are some issues with that, though. Firstly, we would need some way to verify people have actually read the book. There would be quite a few people on the boards who would like to read the spoilery, theoretical discussion just to know more, you know? And verifying could be a little tedious and take up a lot of our time...

I think that may be the only way an unpublished works board would go, but then obviously we would need to open boards for Dragonsteel and many others as well. I'm just worried people will sneak their way in, so there would need to be some verification process. It's a bit tricky. Have any ideas how we could implement it better?

In the meantime, I don't want to have Cosmere Theories home to discussion on unpublished works. Does that make sense?

I really like the idea of a separate, locked forum. How about an old-school videogame like verification question: What is the x-th word on the y-th line of the z-th page?

On the cosmere side, (mild spoiler)

I didn't see any significant links, not even an obvious Hoid cameo.

Good point about Mythwalker, there should be a forum for that. My bad.

A bit niche, though.  Awkward to have a subforum dedicated to the one book Brandon couldn't even bring himself to finish.  Maybe a forum for all of his short-and-free works, like the dragon thing and maybe the 2 short stories (even though they've since been published).

That could be difficult and/or impossible. I can imagine differences in page/line/word placing based on different default font sizes/programs of reading it. I read the file on my laptop, but that doesn't mean someone else couldn't read it on a tablet or something else and end up with completely different placing.

The file I received was a Word file. So long as you don't change things, it should have the same page numbers on all computers.

Alternatively, you could have some factual questions:

1. What is the most common beast of burden?

2. Who is the first named character?

3. What is the colour of 'used' sand?

4. How often does the word 'vengence' appear in the text?

The idea, as I understand it, is to keep out most readers that haven't had a chance to read this book. If someone is determined to get in, by asking friends for answers or continued guessing, they just end up spoiling the book for themselves.

The first thing I did was convert my files out of .doc.  No promises.  I like your proposed alternate method.

Guys, Brandon has asked that we not do forums for unpublished works, hidden or not. We're going to respect his wishes. End of story.

Really? Huh, I had forgotten that somehow, I guess.

Umm... hey guys?

I've read white sand too, but if we aren't going to discuss it, then let's not discuss it.

(No matter how badly I really, really want too. :( )

Yup. I feel the same way. Also, to those who have read it in .doc, I recommend using an epub converter like calibre. It makes the experience MUCH smoother. If there is a way to prove you have read it, I will gladly give anyone who can give the above proof a copy of the epub I made from it, if it's alright with Brandon and co. However, it's really easy, so I recommend you do it yourself.

You'll have to email the S team and ask them. I received White Sand (Full) - about a thousand pages, which I just realized I haven't actually read. I think I intended to, but prioritized the other documents I received (Aether of Night, about 700 pages - which I also just realized I haven't read...; and Mistborn Prime), and then forgot about it or something...

It is possible that you might consider thanking me for this - don't. It should I who thank you for making me dig the old email and find out there are about 1,500 pages of Brandon I haven't read. You can easily guess how good this feels. Maybe I should consider doing something with those Valentine cards... :P

P.S. I don't know what team S' policy is on distributing those unpublished works, but I - or anyone else who has them - could send them to you, if that's alright.

and S team is? sorry, as a working person I have little time for digging. Translating AoL doesn't help in finding it

Oh, I'm not thanking, "you can show your grattitude withe a fat nugger or a rare and expencive metal"

THere are other books? wow...

Start it off as a praise email - I am confident you can think of a thing or two to compliment Brandon on. Then just ask for whatever unfinished works he has laying around, because people on the 17S forums are mean and have a cosmere advantage over you :P

Until recently it took about an year and a half for the team to respond. I hear things are moving faster now.
