Mistborn Reread

So, I've been meaning to do this for a while with several series, but I thought I'd start with Mistborn. I'm considering writing up a reread blog thing for the Mistborn trilogy, similar to the Wheel of Time reread, and I was wondering two things.

First of all, would anyone be interested in reading this if I do? I'm going to do it primarily for myself, for my own selfish literary purposes (like trying to figure out why Brandon is such an awesome writer), but if people are interested in reading it, then I'd be happy to post it somewhere for people to read.

Second of all, if people do express a desire to read it, is there something copyright related to this that I'd have to go through? Do I need to get permission from Brandon or Tor? Or can I just post stuff on my blog that doesn't exist yet without fear of it being randomly shut down?

Thanks for reading, and if you answer anything here, thank you for answering!

while not a bad idea, i honestly feel that the source material (mistborn trilogy) is too short to really warrant this, unlike with the WoT reread, where you could essentially write two or three books about the reread along the way.

Other than that concern, if you really wanna, i say go for it. Who cares who reads it or not? If you wanna do it, do it.

Also, i dont think there's any copyright concern, since it's a synopsis of what happened and not any kind of reproduction, and your own personal thoughts, feelings, and such. (and even if there was, i highly doubt brandon or tor is going to try to sue you over it. If anything, they'd probably promote it themselves if they think you're doing a good job)

There are no such copyright issues, to the best of my knowledge. You should go ahead and do it.

Since there are going to be personal member blogs on 17th Shard (the module is actually installed, and if you go into your profile you can make one. I've kind of obfuscated it at the moment since I don't have much time to tinker with it properly) you could post it there? I think having a reread would be awesome. You should definitely do this.

I'd love to do a readthrough again, too. It's been way too long for me.

Thanks, everyone! Especially Chaos, I've been wondering where I was going to post this for a while.

Theoretically, it would be possible to get a local blog up on the as-of-yet-unskinned main page, but it's... being annoying. I'll admit that the lack of progress on that front is caused in large part because things aren't working as I want them to, and it tends to make me throw stuff in rage. It makes me unhappy for the rest of the day since I don't know how I want to proceed. Hence, not much is proceeding.

The core of the problem is that I can promote forum topics to articles on the main page. Cool, right? (Never mind the fact that the Promote to Article button admins are supposed to get has vanished in exchange for the Blog This button. ???) It is. That's exactly what lured me into getting the Content module anyways. I was under the mistaken impression that the Blog module would be just as easy to integrate to the main page.

I can integrate blogs into the main page, but they would appear in a separate block from the block of articles. It is impossible to have blog posts promote to articles, so they all appear in the same list. So there'd be this bizarre disconnect from articles/promoted forum topics and blog posts. This wouldn't be a problem, necessarily, except I want to do something really, really cool: I want to have Brandon's blog mirror to 17S's blog. Then, we could comment on his blog posts. I can do it, and it's actually really easy to do. I just don't know how exactly I want the dichotomy of articles and blogs to appear. Having Brandon's blog as a feature requires there to be a dichotomy, which kind of aggravates me.

My current idea is to have our articles, which would be news related and such, then have the blogs appear as Around the Cosmere. Those would be the personal community blogs. Any member stuff (like your Mistborn reread), as well as Brandon's blog. If sites like Stormblessed had an RSS feed, too, I wouldn't mind setting something up where they'd have a blog which would auto-post to us... Obviously, I need to do a lot of question asking. And trying to find that danged Stormblessed RSS feed. They have to have one! Gah.

So, that's what's taking forever. Short version: before there are community blogs taking up random space on the main page, I'd kind of like there to be a good reason to do so...

EDIT: I found the Stormblessed RSS feed at long last, but it's kind of strange. Hmm.

Sorry for derailing the topic a bit, leinton. This seemed like a good time to say all this stuff.

Just out of curiosity, does this effect my ability to post on the blog that I made yesterday on here? I can start it somewhere else if that's the case, then just move it over here when you fix... the computer magic that I really don't understand. And I don't mind your derailing this topic. It was fun to read, even if I don't understand it.

I won't have to manually move anything over; everything will just work fine. :)

I may have had a revelation which would make this all much easier.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking here, but if you're talking about having something posted on both the forums and the blog, that's easy. Just make your post on the forums, and then at the bottom, click the "Blog This" button. You'll be taken to a screen that lets you tinker with the settings, and when everything's to your liking, you can click "publish" and voila, blog post.

I hope that helped, and if I totally misunderstood you, I apologize.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just found this topic and I was going to encourage you to do it. Then I saw you did it. So I'm glad and I'm on my way to read it. Looking forward to this!

Also, newbie question: Is there a way to "watch" this blog so I don't have to come here every time? Or should I just bookmark it? Thanks guys!
