I was listening to The Way of Kings again and as I was coming to the epilogue, the description of Taln made think:

His muscled glistened, wet as if he just swam a great distance.

So, he was wet, or rather doused. What else is wet when it appears? Shardblades. I know it's not much to go by, but I think the way of transportaion must be similar, if not identical to the summoning of a shardblade. Do we know where the shardblades are while they are not summoned? perhaps they go to the same place as the Heralds

Thanks for pointing that out, I don't think I ever noticed that.  We do in fact know where shardblades are summoned from, the Spiritual Realm.  I guess its not inconceivable that the Heralds spent time in the Spiritual Realm, although I would want some more information before I make a decision.

Do you have the quote on the Shardblades going to the Spiritual Realm? Because, I too thought that had been confirmed, but I was unable to find it anywhere. :/

Well, I was able to find a RAFO on it...

@BrandSanderson Do Shardblades go to the Spiritual Realm when they haven't been summoned? #torchat

@HolkorS The answer is in future books. #torchat

That said we know that you can steal a shardblade with hemalurgy, even when it's not summoned.

To me, that just means that the ability to summon the Blade is attached to the Spiritweb somewhere, not necessarily that the Shardblade is in the Spiritual Realm.

Yeah, Shardblades being stored in the Spiritual Realm is odd. That one's been floating around as a near-fact since forever, but the quote that Phantom pulled was the only one I could find on the topic.

The liquid is described as condensation.  I've been assuming that wherever they are stored is cold (or a vacuum).  Thinking about it, I realize that using stormlight is endothermic, and the conduits (Kaladin, Shallan) get cold, but the stormlight itself is not necessarily cold.  So, if the swords are the conduits, the use of stormlight to bring them back could be what is making them cold.

As for them being in the spiritual realm, it just seems right to me, since they are sort of halfway there all the time anyway.  In the cognitive realm it seems like they would get stolen or morphed, so I assume they are in the spiritual realm by process of elimination.  I guess they could go on racks in a warehouse in Urithiru, but some people think thats in the spiritual realm anyway.

Now I can't wait for Brandon to prove all my theories to be completely off.  Hurry up with WoR already!
