Dueling, in the Rose Empire?

 

Bortholemew the Blind followed the sounds of swords crashing against each other, and arrived just in time to see one of them fall, sword through the face. Bortholemew suspected he no longer ranked among the living, although sometimes it was difficult to tell. The other, the winner, collapsed, just as the people around him started to cheer.

 

Stepping forward, the midget checked the duelist's pulse. He was still alive, and his wounds were survivable. Still, he would have an awful headache when he woke up. Feeling sorry for him, Bortholemew reached into a pocket of his robes and pulled forth a beardnut. He tucked it into the victor's coat pocket, then turned and walked away.

You have a point. We should ask all four factions to each submit a Champion, then drop them all in a pit, and whichever is left standing, their faction takes the crown.

 

Edit: I meant to say drop them into a pit to fight it out, not just drop them into a large hole in the ground, and hope someone survives, although that could be pretty entertaining too. We could paint targets at the bottom, and whichever Champion is splattered over the most points worth of targets, they win.

Adamir took out some paperwork and began arguing about the legality of this fight, and the consequences between the Rose-Jindo diplomatic relationship if he lost. The Striker stabbed him.

No, you're the Diplomat... You go into the duel with the Striker, and when you come out, he is following you, being your bodyguard.

Bort, I have come to the same conclusions regarding the original moderation faction discoverers, although I was going to wait to announce it to the thread until we were sure which of the three was innocent. Adamir is scanning haelbarde this round, and so we should know for sure next round.

With regards to the original heritage faction, I can confirm dow, but we aren't able to confirm eowyn, phattemer, zephrer, alvron, or shallan.

We have even less info on glory, but I suspect that Wilson was close to the truth, if not right on, so that leaves you and kipper (we believe zas has been cleared), and kipper is the more likely suspect.

We should coordinate striker his on discovery suspects. We're planning to hit kipper. Next round we'll be much more sure of the suspects in our faction. I advise a hit on either clanky or neo, as there is a 66% chance that either of them are discovery, and a 100% chance that one of them is.

The sun beat down on the arena, and the screams and chants of the crowd only intensified as the gladiators strode out. From the Moderation Faction came Ableah Edr, sculpted body gleaming with oils, clad in a loincloth and sandals. He held the sword in his hand as though he didn't know what to make of it.

Crouched by a catapult was Bortholemew the Blind. His beard had been scrubbed until it was as white as snow. "Still got to make some calculations," he grunted, tinkering with the catapult. By popular acclaim, he had been declared the Glorious Champion.

Next, Adamir of the Heritage Faction entered the arena. His thin robe clashed with his sandals. "You can't do this!" he cried out. "I'm a scribe, not a gladiator! I know ten different languages!"

The last champion entered. His clothing was casually shredded, and he carried a huge blade, metal beaded with drops of moisture that dripped down into the thirsty sands. "Then you can curse at us in ten different languages," King Wurum of Alethkar, First of his Name, Protector of the Realm, and the Herald of the Storms said, cheerfully.

He grounded his Blade, point-down in the sand, and leaned on it. "Well, gentlemen," he said. "Shall we get to it? Or are we going to take all day?"*
 
*Nice try, but no. Get back to your regularly scheduled killing, thank you.

Sounds like a plan. We were thinking about hitting Kipper ourselves, but if you want that honour, feel free.

 

We will target one of the others. I'll put both names down, so our striker can choose one of them. That way, even if we are still infiltrated, Discovery won't know which we will attack.

 

If you guys in Heritage want to disregard Hael's request that I be scanned (do or do not, your call), please have Shallan scanned, then next cycle, we'll take Adamir back and start scanning yours.

I'll add this; Seonid, Zas has been cleared to the point where I believe him to be Glory (See Wyrm, no more use of the word 'innocent' ). But, if you are unsure about me, you may want to take that with a pinch of salt. I think I've pretty much proved myself in these threads though, but I can't tell you what to do.

Is it just me, or did Wurum bring a Shardblade to a gladiator duel? GM, I demand you examine the Codes for Dueling Etiquette, wherein you will find clear definitions on which types of weaponry may be wielded, most specifically forbidding Invested weaponry from participating, as dictated by Emperor Ebrisinith during the thirty-fifth year of the Etorican dynasty- Stabbed with Shardblade.

 

Okay, back on topic; I will investigate Shallan next cycle, but for now I have a likely suspect, as suggested by the rest of Heritage. No, Bort, it isn't you.

How have you narrowed it down to Clanky or I in Moderation?  I haven't even been able to do that yet.  I am happy to reveal my role, as I don't see much of a reason not to at this point.  I am a Moderation Forger.  I can prove it by targeting someone this cycle.  If you can let me know how you are 100% positive that either Clanky or I am Discovery,  it might be convincing enough to take out Clanky.

...So according to my list, the only Factions left with Strikers are Glory and Heritage. Also according to my list, the current sizes of each faction are 6 in Moderation, 6 in Glory, and 7 in Heritage. Now, obviously some of my friends are in those numbers, but it does make for interesting reading. How exactly does Moderation expect to win when we're gone and they have no control of the lynch and no way to kill? Well, they'll have to team up with one of the other factions... Except we've seen that people don't take too kindly to that. So what's going to happen? Oh my. It'll be interesting to see, won't it?

 

Not advocating that I'm protected again this Cycle or anything (though I certainly wouldn't say no to it). I just thought you'd all like to know that Heritage is probably going to win with these numbers and Roles left.

Okay, a few notes.

As others have mentioned (and as we discussed in the Moderation Doc), Neo, Clanky, Haelbarde are the Discovery Faction possibilities. I'm pretty sure Neo is cleared via his role, which he has claimed. Btw, Seonid is clear because of his role, which I know as well. That leaves Haelbarde and Clanky, who seem to be the most likely Discovery suspects.

Next, why me? I've claimed a role. I told Paranoid King my role. I told him what was going to happen. That was borne out. I claimed Aonar's death. No one else has. I'm not sure what else to say. DOES ANYONE ELSE WANT TO CLAIM AONAR'S DEATH?! Because if not, I don't see how I can be suspect. However, it looks pretty clear that I will die. Oh well. Just make sure that you look at Pixie and Bort a little closer, unless Bort has revealed a role. Also, for some reason, Paranoid King is not backkng me up on our conversation, which is weird, because I can't detect a motive.

THERE IS NO DISCOVERY/MODERATION ALLIANCE. NONE. ZILCH. NADA. As others have so eloquently pointed out, that would end in a win for Discovery.
