Hey...so I've RP'd before on another forum, but the format was slightly different (there was a GM who kept things moving in one general direction, which I'm not quite sure I'm seeing here), so I'm pretty much a newbie. Also I haven't read Steelheart/Mitosis/Firefight for a while.

With that said, I think I'd like to join one of these threads, I'm just not sure which one (especially since most are super-long and I'm not reading 100 pages just to find out nope, not a good fit). The Etiquette post suggested positing a character and asking y'all where he or she might fit best, so here goes nothing.

Skylar is not an Epic, first of all. She's a former college junior in her early 20s who fortunately was working off-campus when her roommate/BFF, Erika, turned Epic. She nearly destroyed said campus by remotely blowing up the computer system before finding out her weakness was apples (she was eating lunch outside at the time). Just as she spat out the bite of fruit and pondered calling herself the Doctor, a Mac computer flew unharmed from the latest explosion and...well...let's say edible apples were the least of Erika's troubles. Tangent aside, Skylar was out of a school with nowhere to go; her only family lived half the country away and travel on that scale was way not safe, so instead she walked to the nearest main town because hey, anything's better than living in the open. (This can be whatever RP town she fits in.)

Personality: E S/N FJ, friendly, talkative (especially when nervous or embarrassed), acts on adrenaline and cries later (preferably in private--she likes to look strong and works hard at burying her emotions, especially about Erika), hard worker, protective of friends and those who need protection, a better follower than leader, loyal to a good leader, strong sense of right and wrong (so "gray" questions are difficult because she sees pros and cons). Bit of a pride issue as mentioned earlier--maintaining an image--plus she can be stubborn if she thinks she's in the right. Competitive, doesn't like losing--arguments, banter, or games. Rub her the wrong way, and her occasional snark can get biting.

Other: for visual ref, think Darcy Lewis from Thor but without glasses. She'll reference fandoms randomly, especially when she's stressed. Casual dresser.

I've played a similar character personality-wise in previous RPGs elsewhere, hence the detail. xD Where might she fit best?

Welcome! :) From the sounds of things, I think she'd probably fit in well in The Dalles. Non-Epics are in charge there, so she'd have found a place to use her talents and not have to answer to any Epics. This game is set two years prior to Steelheart, so not only would there have been time for the shock of her roommate's Rending to have worn off, but she may have even helped install Vondra as the mayor/benevolent dictator after Koschei (evil healer) was defeated two years ago. It's currently a match between Lucentia and Shiny Sparkle, however I am willing to go for a lesser bidder, if it helps to drive the bargain.

One would kill her the second she started singing "First World Problems," and the other couldn't spell the word "consent" if it were included in her crossword puzzle.

"Sparkle," would be the reply. :P

Though yeah. What's disturbing about Shiny's meta-promise about not doing anything more than cuddle until Sam's legal is the complete absence of doubt that Sam wants to do more than cuddle in the first place.

Backtrack lucked out this time. His name has too many letters to fit. :P

This is very true. At least Sam isn't actually up for sale.

Yes, but the same crossword asks for a nine letter synonym for failure. :P

The only canon romance I'd even consider would be a harmless crush on someone close to her own age, possibly hinting at a relationship a few years later once the events of the RP are over with. Anything sexual would be out of the question--and a thirteen character synonym for sexual is "Shiny Sparkle."

Yay, thanks so much! I'm working on reading the thread--currently on page 5. When I'm done, do I just go ahead and make a post? Or will there be something specific she could be doing that I'll find out about as I get more up to date?

There are quite a few things she could be doing--it's been a pretty busy day in The Dalles. By the time you finish, you'll probably have a pretty good idea of what her profession would be and her history with the city; so at that point, you'll need to ask Kobold (thread GM) where she would be and what she'd be doing on day 2. He'll be able to give you more details on that front and help you refine your original idea.

That's why this is the perfect Moment to voice who your prefed buyer would be, a reasoning wouldn't hurt either.

To be entirely fair that response isn't fully represant for Canon her. That will have to wait until they actually meet.

I have 2 new vanillas I would like to to introduce to the Dalles.

Daniel Whitebird:

Daniel Whitebird is a Sioux Native American, but he grew up in Kansas City. After Kansas City was destroyed by the High Epic SingSong (I came up with that on the spot) Daniel left. He is tall, with almost shoulder length black hair, and very muscular. He carries around a bow and arrows, but also has pistols in his bag. While on a bus to Florida, he met his strange friend, and a bond traveled between them.

Adrian Pasar:

Adrian is a shirtless, tanned, blond, lean and muscled Hawaiian surfer. Yes, you read that right. He is also Daniel Whitebirds best friend. He puts on normal clothes most of the time, but he always carries around a bowie knife. He is very dangerous.

A welcome from me as well. is there by the way any chance she would have taken up a military role?

Talking about canon meetings, the one character whose reaction I'm having the hadest time to place would be Revolution, care to shed some light on her in that regard?

Comatose and Tyson, do the Queens know about Reflection? I was under the impression that they did not, but Rainmaker ordered Buttercup to contact him prior to the end of Day 1. I'm going to be skipping Buttercup contacting him and Jumpdrive, but figured I'd ask anyways.

Edit: It occurs to me that Reflection was renamed Malevolence, so never mind.

Originally I didn't plan to have the Queens know about his existence. But I can work with it. They could have crossed paths before maybe, Malevolence has a tendency to gravitate towards powerful epics just to stir up trouble. He has no ambitions but self amusement.

I might write a Malevolence or Gunsmoke post soon. Malevolence's next move would be to seek out one of the Queens for a conversation. Gunsmoke plans to make a play for Corvallis.

Anyone have any other big plans for day two in Corvallis? I presume Iconolast will be busy.

Well, with your renaming Reflection to Malevolence, Comatose may have actually been talking about someone else, so I'd like to wait for his response before making assumptions. As for the plans for Day 2, I presume we will be dealing with Converter's escape. That will occupy Buttercup. Blossom will be busy helping Rainmaker out, trying to show how useful she is, plus she is the head of PR and legal, and given what's happened, she's got some work to do. Lastly, the Queens need to decide whether or not they'll be bothering with lowering the bubble like normal, or to keep it up for security's sake. Those are my plans, anyways.

Talking about canon meetings, the one character whose reaction I'm having the hadest time to place would be Revolution, care to shed some light on her in that regard?

The difference between Sam and Revolution is that only Sam's really terrified of Epics.

While she's snarky and doesn't have a lot of respect for them, Sam's afraid of them and hates them vehemently as a consequence. Revolution, on the other hand, is aware that they pose a powerful threat, but has been too sheltered to have the visceral fear of them that Sam has. To her they're just bogeymen, and to an extent she prides herself in not letting her fear of them rule her.

So if Shiny Sparkle flirted with Sam, she'd be met with sharp derision and anger. Sam would be afraid of being blown up, but she'd be afraid of being an Epic's concubine even more, and would make it abundantly clear that she's not interested. Revolution, though, would mainly find the flirts amusing. She wouldn't reciprocate, but so long as Shiny didn't try to force the issue they'd get along a lot more smoothly than Sam and any other Epic.

In short: Sam would tie Shiny to a train track with her weakness given half a chance, while Revolution would be amused by harmless flirting.

It's possible, but I think it's also possible Skylar could be a diner waitress just to make ends meet (she probably did this at least when she first got to town) or even help out at Dr. Game's clinic.

Kobold every time you change your avatar my brain takes a few days to stop seeing it as weird. And I have a weird brain so this may cause me to occasionally start screaming for no reason. Please pay it no mind.

And I can't hear your screaming, so it's all good.

I've also been known to request that someone swap feet with me. Also normal. (For me)

About what I would have expected. Hearing the word no would help greatly in keeping Shiny Sparkle in check. Not to a degree Sam would be comfortable with I fear but certainly enough to keep a second Autumn-situation from happening.

To get back to our bargain one last time:

You make a tempting offer. But who exactly is this highest bidder? Of all your characters there are only two who would treat Sam right, and only one Sam would be comfortable around.

And the threat of Aunt Rhonda is enough to control Shiny now? Good to know.:P

I suppose you were talking about Voidgaze and Baxter here?

I may or may not still be looking for people playing someone in Snake's unit  But one way or another choose as you see with. I'm at least open to the idea of her helping out in the clinic somtimes.
