That would be more in character, though it would be funnier if he did it because he heard Obliteration had one and thought it would make Vondra and Arsenal fear him. :P

goatee!Deatwish: "Ah, monsieur Vondra, behold my magnificent facial hair. Does it not fill you with obliterating fright in its hairy glory?"

"And behold, fire and stuff! Sinners being thrown into lakes of adulterers! Snakes! And a burning bush!"

"That's not how the book of Revelations goes, Deathwish."

"Repent, Arsenal. Repent, lest ye earn the wrath of the VelociRaptures."

"You did not just say that."

At first Deathwish thought being thrown into a lake of Adulterers wouldn't be that bad, then he discovered they were all men.

The Shipmistress finds this post pleasing to her eyes. :D

Also, general question: when exactly will the day in The Dalles come to a close? I'm just wondering when I should post for Autumn visiting Vapor.

Crush has to get picked up by the guys who take in Deathwish and brought to the clinic.

Oh, by the way, I might introduce a vanilla character. What's Vondra's rank?

Commander. He's the former commander of a National Guard unit stationed in The Dalles, who took over as mayor once Koschei was killed. What kind of vanilla character?

It's complicated. In terms of military rank he's the commander of a small National Guard division that was assigned to The Dalles. After Koschei's defeat though, he made himself "mayor"--which, technically speaking, makes him more of a dictator considering he seized absolute power for himself.

He had the best of intentions though, so there's that.  twilightblush.png :P

And he's a kinder dictator than pretty much any Epic out there, so….at least he's not an Epic? :P

True. Vondra's not the ideal leader--for instance, if anyone made a habit of speaking out against him he'd quiet or even incarcerate him out of a determination to protect the town's stability. But he doesn't make a habit of murdering his inferiors because they didn't cook his lasagna properly, so that makes him the best civil servant the Fractured States has left.

Well, what's his exact military rank? Does the National Guard still use the same ranks? The guy's name is going to be Mason Rubio, but he'd be referred to as __[rank]__ Rubio, so yeah.

I'm just going to try to develop him the first time I write a post for him, though I have a vague idea in my mind. For one, I'm giving him a sweet goatee, so your facial hair woes are over

Is he independent, or is he a member of Vapor Snake's squad? There are a handful of openings for that, especially for soldiers who have awesome facial hair.

That is worlds better than the average politician's motives. <_<

This is the embarrassing point at which I have to admit I don't know enough about military ranks to make an educated guess about this. :P  I suspect that the City Guard uses a modified version of the regular National Guard rankings, which should help us account for any discrepancies between real life and what the RP depicts.

The only real precedent we've set so far is that Mitchins, a man who was shown as commanding a force of about a dozen men, was ranked as a lieutenant. But then, he's subordinate to an Epic who's technically ranked as a chaplain, so... I'm open to ideas on your character. I think "lieutenant" would probably be best, though.

Sad, isn't it? <_<

Well, except that Vapor Snake's squad is already written for... by Vapor Snake.  ^_^

I see him as sort of a rank-and-file soldier who leads a rank-and-file squad. He's interesting, but his main purpose is to provide a perspective on what The Dalles' finest are doing whenever something happens to the town. It's a perspective that was kind of missing during most of Day One, especially during the panda attack.

Plus, there are, like, 2 vanilla perspectives right now in The Dalles (3 if you count the guy who apprehended Backtrack) so I think this will bring The Dalles a little bit back to its original intention of being more vanilla-centered (I feel bad for introducing another Epic, partially, now that I've realized just how many new Epics have been appearing on the outskirts of town)

Reader's a chaplain...?

At the Church of Being Awful, maybe.

I actually felt pretty bad for Reader as I read the thread. Everyone was so cruel to him at the clinic. Sure, he was a little mean, but only when he was crossed.

Only if you ignore the way he picked on Terry Bloom and Backtrack for funsies earlier.

He shot a man in the arm for being too flustered to talk to him properly. Not only does that make zero sense from a diplomatic perspective, but it also makes him kind of a slontze by objective measurements. :P

Or the way he treated MV and Impact. Or how he managed to insult 4 people in about 4 sentences. :P

Speaking of which, I'm really looking forward to Arsenal's response to Reader   :P

Wow. I just realized how much Reader sounds like me when I don't get enough sleep.

Yeah, to me, Reader comes across pretty forcefully as a bully with too few people willing to take him down a peg.

(Sorry for always taking so long with posts, guys. I alternate throughout the day between my job and quick forum posts, so writing lengthy RP posts isn't always easy.)

As someone who does much the same thing, I completely understand. No biggie. :)

:P I've never been too aware of the goings-on in Portland, so I wasn't quite sure if Backtrack was lying or not. All I know is that Frostfire randomly broke his nose when he was a bound captive.

I was texting my cousin about this RPG, and he (as a joke, I think) told me that there should be an Epic that could turn anything within a 20-foot radius into green Jell-O. I responded that that was actually an extremely versatile ability and practically qualified as Prime Invincibility. I even gave him a great name: Mouldbreaker.

I don't plan on creating him on the RPG, but I did come up with an Epic-rating system

This is true. Still, given Reader's actions earlier in the thread—and the "Nyah nyah nyah nyah, I'm an Epic so you can't touch meeee" he consistently exhibits though both his actions and his internal monologue—that came across more as a piece of unintentional karma than senseless cruelty. Was it rude of Frostfire? You bet. Was there someone who deserved it more? Probably not.

People included? That is a pretty powerful ability.
