Mailliw73 he/him Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I kind of wish I'd asked about the Illustrated Guide to Epics just to make sure the idea's in his head, but what's done is done. Firefight: I'm counting this unnamed member of the Coven, Phaedrus, and Calamity himself. With a possible reappearance of Obliteration. This will be one packed book, unless it's miraculously longer than either of the others. I just asked a question since he's still answering. I may or may not have inserted a little something that will hopefully get him to answer mine. On that subject I don't know if we should write any Epics facing their fears yet, until we get more information on what happens it's pretty likely that we'll have to retcon something. I just recently planned one of mine facing their fears. I think that those cases should be handled delicately and GM-approved first, but not that we should avoid it entirely. Judging from the fight in Astoria, me and Mailliw almost never being on at the same time will mean the fight is going to continue for a rather long time in real life, unless Freq's gang decides that it is already too late for much fighting and make an early retreat. Aso congratulations Twi They will be retreating soon, but not quite yet. That sounds more feasible—and also pretty cool. Kobold, what are the chances Arsenal made Autumn an iPod and an iHome so she can play music in her office? And Mailliw, Voidus, would Edgerunner and Scribbler ever want her to play music for them, and if so, what? Um, she actually probably wouldn't like it while she was talking. Maybe if she just came to relax, but I don't know what exactly. Something simple and happy. Actually, upon further reflection, Edgerunner seems the more likely one to request two hours of Tuvan throat singing….so she can "borrow" Autumn's iPod and blare that playlist wherever Arsenal is likely to be. She might very well do that exact thing to him.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 16, 2015 Author Posted May 16, 2015 Actually, I always assumed we saw evil Discorded ponies because we only saw Discord affecting inherently good ponies. At his worst he had no agenda or moral compass--he was simply chaotic, enjoying turning the natural order of things upside down. Looking at it that way, it makes more sense that he'd turn an inherently bad pony to good, or rather, an overly saccharine parody of good, than it would be to turn him into a boring depressing wreck. But that's just my headcanon. Your idea works perfectly too. That could be it, though from the way he Discorded the Main 6, I assumed that he intentionally changed them in ways most likely to cause chaos, while still maintaining key aspects of their personalities—where it fit. Fluttershy became an intentionally cruel and self-centered prankster, apparently losing her interest in working with woodland creatures, whereas Rarity retained her love of beauty but in a greedier context. Rainbow Dash exhibited perhaps the most profound change, changing from spunky and loyal to completely apathetic. Pinkie Pie's natural opposite would've been depressive, but he made her a grouch instead. I think he did this specifically because those changes would cause the most relational chaos. For instance, if Pinkie Pie became depressed, it could lead her friends to abandon their differences and comfort her. Having been imprisoned for millennia, Discord's goal seemed to have been destroying the Elements of Harmony so he could roam free, and his Discording with the Mane 6 seems to reflect that. With that in mind, I think depressed!Quota would be most likely to cause chaos, as seeing him in such a state would be too strong a temptation for his former victims. A saccharine parody of himself would make others laugh, and would certainly be disastrous for him, but should he ever break free of that, he could simply wreak vengeance on anyone who laughed. Which….would be something in character for a spirit of chaos, but if he had chosen Quota as a target, I think he'd go for something a bit more drastic.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 16, 2015 Author Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) I just recently planned one of mine facing their fears. The slowness of this game might actually be an advantage in this case. Firefight came out just in time to change Funtimes' backstory and character arc, and I think it was an improvement. Once we get deep enough into the plot and characterization to write fear-facing scenes, Calamity will either be released or close to its release date. So I don't think we shouldn't plan that sort of thing where it fits, but if those scenes don't wind up happening until after Calamity is out, then I don't think it'll be a bad thing at all. Instrumentals, then? Unless she really is a fan of Tuvan throat singing for reasons that don't involve Arsenal. Edited May 16, 2015 by TwiLyghtSansSparkles
Kobold King he/him Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I just asked a question since he's still answering. I may or may not have inserted a little something that will hopefully get him to answer mine. Excellent. You know, I bet if everybody here posted a short question from the FUNTIMES list to the top of the page, we could get a sizable percentage of them answered. I just recently planned one of mine facing their fears. I think that those cases should be handled delicately and GM-approved first, but not that we should avoid it entirely. That is probably a good idea. So, TwiLyght. What do you think of Arsenal facing his irrational fear of M&Ms, overcoming his corruption but being so naturally grumpy that nobody notices? That could be it, though from the way he Discorded the Main 6, I assumed that he intentionally changed them in ways most likely to cause chaos, while still maintaining key aspects of their personalities—where it fit. I hadn't considered all of that, but those are very good points. ...Does that mean a Discorded!Funtimes would basically be Fortuity?

Sounds like a hilarious and in-character waste of a perfectly good plot development. Um….yes, probably. But…cheerier. Like a cross between Fortuity and Heath Ledger's Joker. ….I….I'm going to go scrub that image from my mind now. Edited May 16, 2015 by TwiLyghtSansSparkles
+Slowswift Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 Useless. Empty. Brain. That Timelock post may just have to wait a while. Sorry. Go ahead and do things; I can fit it in later if necessary. *sigh*

I'm not sure when this planned scene will happen, but sometime in the next game week, which might mean another year in RL. Or just upbeat music that isn't too loud. I can't think of an example now though. Excellent. You know, I bet if everybody here posted a short question from the FUNTIMES list to the top of the page, we could get a sizable percentage of them answered. I actually asked four. Two were my own though and very simple.
mail-mi he/him Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I haven't been following hte AMA, so could you guys post the questions and answers here that you post so I can know what the heck is going on as well?
Mailliw73 he/him Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Kobold, I just realized that you might want to post the FUNTIMES list on the Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon thread too, just to get them out there even more. Mail-mi, if I get a response I will. Kobold's was just that we'll see a member of the Coven in Calamity.
Guest Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Twi, your Benevolent Order of the Yak is actually seeing some action again...it's rather amusing.

Guest Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Seriously? I must see this. Yay for thread necromancy, VeggieTales, and all that jazz...

That is a good idea. I will see about doing that. Also, just watched the new MLP episode, "Make New Friends but Keep Discord": Tree Hugger is best pony. No further arguments will be accepted. I have made my decision. Also, if Nathan started hanging out too much with Revolution, would Funtimes send her to the Dimension of the Mustached Sock Puppets? 2
Blackhoof Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 So apparently, there is this trope called Lethal Harmless Powers, such as Heatsink can shatter someones chest by pulling all the heat out then punching it, or just stop their brain, by absorbing all the electricity going through it. oh yeah, he can just freeze people straight out. In fact, he is probably more offensive than defensive- he is only defensive against heat-based attacks, like fire Epics. But he can be offensive against anyone.

Kobold King he/him Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 (edited) Only if they kissed. If not, she'd go there for a good cry. And talk to dust bunnies while dirtying dishes? (We'll keep the Nathan/Revolution ship open in case public opinion shifts in favor of a What Happened in the Sock Puppet Dimension spinoff. ) Edited May 17, 2015 by Kobold King 1
Redbird he/him Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 oh yeah, he can just freeze people straight out. In fact, he is probably more offensive than defensive- he is only defensive against heat-based attacks, like fire Epics. But he can be offensive against anyone. When I first thought of that power set, it took someone pointing that out for me to realize that it could be used offensively.
Blackhoof Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I just recently planned one of mine facing their fears. I think that those cases should be handled delicately and GM-approved first, but not that we should avoid it entirely. i feel like if it does happen, it should be massively low-key. Like the whole thing is pretty secret and no-one knows. Otherwise we need to question why David has not heard of this good Epic before, and why this Epic didn't go around convincing other good Epics to face their fears, raising the profile massively. I mean, for some reason most Epics seem to not have made the fear-weakness connection (at least not as explicitly as we know), so I feel like we can't have too many doing it. After all, there is a reason people think all Epics are evil, and why vanillas still haven't made the fear-weakness connection after all this time. When I first thought of that power set, it took someone pointing that out for me to realize that it could be used offensively. well, if the offensive part messes with your original conception of the character, you could always say that he cannot use his power on organic things and stuff in their immediate proximing (so no freezing clothes)? Many powers have that caveat. That way, he can't just freeze people to death as an insta-kill, he has to be a bit more creative. Your call

Your call For one thing, David is in Newcago and our characters are in Oregon. It's about to be embroiled in war, and a lot of characters won't survive. Not only will the war keep them busy, but it's pretty implausible that David would know when every Epic in the FSA faces their fears. So in other words, it's completely plausible that it could happen, remain localized, and only escape the state in rumor. Second, we've planned it tentatively for two Epics, with one tentatively post-fear. Three Epics, out of over three dozen, plus more that haven't been named. Most player Epics have been slated to grow worse, and those who aren't probably won't make the fear-corruption connection. I agree that it shouldn't be common, but it won't be. Most Epics, as I said, are only going to get worse.

Kobold King he/him Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 I've decided to change the way I write Revolution. From now on, she will not speak a single sentence that is not about chakras, auras, or some kind of spiritual vibration, man. You're welcome. 3

Kobold King he/him Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 We need a Smooze she can sing to. And a sitar player for backup music. I'm sure Funtimes and Panda collaborating could make us a Smooze. And either Glamour or Synthesia could supply the sitar. 1

Compared to that Oregon isn't that far away. But I agree, I'm sure one or two wouldn't necessarily generate much news. Well I need some way of him to fight, preferably with defensive(ish) powers because that is cooler. well fighting with good old guns, knives and swords, combined with his super agility and such, he could put up a decent fight against vanillas and minor Epics, for sure. Its possible, just makes it harder, is all.

True, but as I pointed out, you could count the number of Epics slated to face their fears by the end of the game on one hand. In a game where the entire state is going to be destroyed by loathsome Epics, I think we NEED a few Epics to face their fears just to keep the whole thing from descending into Darkness Induced Audience Apathy.
