Advice: be sure to keep at least one Sanderson book with you, just in case. Lol, I don't know if it has Internet, but no electronic devices are allowed, so I'll be on hiatus from Tuesday 'till Saturday. I'm going to being Mistborn for a re-read if I can. Thanks for the advice! BTW, I am leaving for camp tomorrow, so this is the last time I'm posting 'till Saturday. See ya'll then. Edited August 15, 2016 by Renoux
Sunbird she/her Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Several different small things made me happy today: This morning I saw a covey of about 7 quail running around in my neighborhood. THEY'RE SO CUTE. I managed to find a parking spot--despite there being waaaay too many people trying to park--because my tiny car can fit into spots that larger cars have to pass up. One of my coworkers said she thought my T-shirt was cute. The weather was not as fiendishly hot today as it has been most of the summer. In the afternoon the wind was gusting pretty hard, and I saw several crows surfing the wind and looking like they were having a lot of fun in the process.
Claincy he/him Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Story time! In Melbourne there is a game store called Milsims. For years it was the best board game/war game store in Melbourne though there was definitely less competition at the time. It's prices were really good and it's customer service etc were similarly great But the global financial crisis hit them hard and they never really recovered. At some point ownership of the store changed hands and the new owners just weren't up to the standards of the old ones. I don't know if they simply didn't really care about the store/industry, if they weren't especially good at managing businesses or whatever else might have had an effect, but the store settled into a slow death spiral. Finally sometime last year the store entered liquidation But wait! This is the good news thread! Early this year the Milsims brand and remaining stock was bought by a small business "Joe Dodgy's dice and games". Said business has been operating for around 5 years out of their garage and they have great prices and excellent customer relations They decided they wanted to expand into a full retail business and remake Milsims into a great store again. For better or worse their new retail store is right near the university I work at Anyway, they decided to hold a warehouse sale over the weekend (something that Milsims used to do back in it's heyday) with heavy discounts to sell off the old stock that they didn't plan to continue to put on the shelves. I was able to grab a rather nice selection of D&D Attack Wing minis (including some nice dragons) for less than half what it would usually cost For some reason my purchase of a number of large dragons scared my players...can't imagine why 2
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Got called into the supervisor's office. Turned out, he wanted to give me a sort of self-evaluation sheet so I could note anything I wanted discussed during my upcoming evaluation. And he said I'm doing a good job and there aren't any problems, so take that, brain weasels! 11
Sunbird she/her Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I got to see my brother today! He's been living in Ohio for the past several months and I'm in Utah, so I was very happy to see him again. Tomorrow he reports to the Missionary Training Center to start his two years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (AKA the Mormon Church).
Briar King Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 (edited) Is that the white shirt bike riders? They always come by when my old man is out under porch drinking coffee and he tells them to go to the fridge in garage and get a cold bottle of water and sit and rest for a min. LOL yup, those are Mormon missionaries. I appreciate your dad's kindness toward them. It's not everywhere they go that they get such a warm reception.
Mistrunner Posted August 19, 2016 Posted August 19, 2016 Babysitting is usually either A ) "What? I get paid 20 bucks to play with these adorable children? This is awesome!" or B ) "What? I'm only getting paid 20 bucks to herd these devil children?" I got a babysitting job for the people down the street, and it was the former. And their kids love me, so they've basically promised that it'll be a recurring thing. 3

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I found something delicious to do with leftover mashed potatoes. Following the cue of the reviewer who said they were too bland, I added garlic powder, a sprinkle each of thyme and rosemary, and grated cheddar cheese. 1
Sunbird she/her Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I went to a fabulous book signing tonight. Local Utah author C David Belt was celebrating the release of his latest book, The Sweet Sister, and invited attendees to dress in Renaissance Faire garb and come prepared to sing Celtic folk songs. I didn't have any real Ren Faire clothing, so I just got my Mistborn cosplay out of the closet and wore that instead. That wasn't the only thing that made this not your usual signing either. It was held at Mr Belt's house, and in the backyard he had set up a cardboard box as a target for guests to shoot with his crossbow. (He collects Medieval armor and weaponry.) I gave that a go and hit the box 5 times out of 5! Possibly my favorite thing, though, was the folk song singalong. Mr Belt had the lyrics projected onto the wall so everyone could follow along whether they'd heard the song before or not. I knew several of the songs thanks to my love of the band The High Kings, and I particularly enjoyed "The Rocky Road to Dublin" because it's so lively. 3

Delightful Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I'm getting pretty good at drawing and it's making me happy 3
Doc12 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Question, did you draw your profile picture @Delightful?

Though I should totally draw her..... wait. I have drawn her. Just not particularly well. Edited August 20, 2016 by Delightful
Doc12 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 Oh storms I've thought that was Vin for so long. On the topic of drawing, I can draw machines and human figures, but not human faces, as attested to by my profile picture. Still working on getting faces and expressions right haha

Still working on getting faces and expressions right haha I definitely see the Vin resemblance! it seems I can draw decent faces, or decent bodies, but not both on the same figure..... aaand your profil pic is easily beyond my skill level. Iron man? Or general robot thing? on close up.....maybe I could draw that? How did you do the lighting, it looks very deliberate but also a pencil sketch? Edited August 20, 2016 by Delightful
Doc12 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 (edited) It's supposed to be Iron man yeah. It's a pencil sketch I drew in a boring psych class and cleaned up with my phones photoshop express, adding the lens flare abd red tint. Drawing machines like daleks and cybermen are easy for me, however I have never drawn a face that satisfied me yet haha And its not as perfect as it looks, coz its so small you can't see the flaws. Check out the large version and original sketch below. Spoiler Larger version of my profile pic so you see the roughness Spoiler Original pencil sketch Edited August 20, 2016 by Doctor12 2
