Kobold King he/him Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 It was an awesome comic. I know! They ask lots of questions that don't matter, and lots of Cosmere questions, but when it comes to things people actually want to know? Argh. I almost wish Brandon would make a rule that at signings, questions about the book he's hosting the signing for should always take precedence. Because if we could get someone who cares about the Reckonersverse at every signing, I'd be so happy I just might….I might…. ….I don't know, make it rain pancakes or something? Argh. In a way I get it--if I were at a Rithmatist signing, for instance, I'd have a hard time refraining from bombarding him with Reckonerverse questions. (Because to be bluntly honest, The Rithmatist is my least favorite of his books. Still light years better than anything I could write, and it enthralled me cover to cover, but I didn't find it as incredimazible as his other works.) Still though. We have so few questions, and they could all be answered in a minute. I really wish that someday he'll do another Q&A on the forum. 2

Many of our questions, while not exactly yes-or-no, would have some pretty simple responses, but those responses would be so much help for this RP. Even if we avoided the Big Scary Question™ ("How was Oregon destroyed?") we could still learn quite a bit about the world and use it for both character backstories and future event planning. Then again, we'd have to make sure we got there before all the Cosmere fans. I mean, there's nothing wrong with asking questions about your favorite books—when I read signing transcripts, I skip right over the Cosmere questions and I'm sure Cosmere fans do the same with Reckoners questions—but they have so many WOBs already. We're pretty much limited to what we get in the books. 1

We're pretty much limited to what we get in the books. My ideal would be another Q&A like the last one he did, where he logs on and answers three or four questions from everyone who posts within a certain timeframe. (If there are too many people, he might have to limit the questions to one apiece though.) That would give the Cosmere fans the opportunity to ask what's really nagging at them, while giving us a golden window of opportunity to score prime Reckonerverse answers. I would ask Reckoners questions. I do have one Cosmere question, related to my first-ever theory on the forum, but it's still not as important to me as a simple question like "Are there any Epic despots in the western US" would be. Basically, Cosmere WoBs are always fascinating, but there's not much to do with them besides applying them to high-intensity theorizing. We can put every Reckonerverse WoB to some good use here, even if it's just in a passing mention or even a pony comic. Edited February 21, 2015 by Kobold King 1
Edgedancer he/him Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I….I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but I can't stop looking at it. Of course. The Cosmere fans come out in force, but the only Reckoners question is the equivalent of "Why does Hermione Granger have such a funny name?" To continue the trend here's Bloody Lucentia. Well, 1:15 isn't even half the signing and a lot of questions were about general writter stuff and WoT more than the Cosmere, although those were there as well of course. (As I type this I hear someone going down a list of Cosmere questions I could have answered myself in the background ) My ideal would be another Q&A like the last one he did, where he logs on and answers three or four questions from everyone who posts within a certain timeframe. The "problem" I see with Cosmere WOBs is that the important stuff has already been grassed by the community, so answers will most of the time either be redundant, minor or RAFO. 3

Yeah, I'm not involved in any completely insane Mistborn or Warbreaker RPs. If I could only ask one Reckoners question, I'd ask him about the Western Epic despots—namely, if there were any in Wyoming, Alaska, or the Yukon province of Canada. It wouldn't take a lot of words to respond—just a simple "No, I hadn't come up with any for Alaska and I admit I hadn't thought about Wyoming much" or "Yes, Alaska is currently ruled by the Wicked Witch of the West, who has the soul of a Windows operating system, and Wyoming has fallen to a certain literary author whose Epic powers allow her to actualize her poorly researched, badly thought-out, and horribly biased short stories about the state," it would do wonders for the backstory of a certain matter manipulator. 1

Guest Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I don't really think you should blame Cosmere fans for liking what they like. I'm one myself. To be honest, I'm not interested as much in Reckoners. I don't like the writing as much, and the Cosmere has a more intriguing overall (To me) storyline. I've never been to a signing, but if I go ever, I promise I'll ask a question or two for you guys. Brandon visited my neighborhood shopping mall right before I became a fan.

I don't blame them for liking what they like at all. It just bugs me how they monopolize every single signing with questions about worlds that are so well-known by now some fans (like Edgedancer said) could answer their questions for them; while our favorite world remains virtually unknown. 1

Hey, your reasonable statement is getting in the way of a perfectly good rift between Sanderfans! ... I don't blame them, and I don't think any of us actually think poorly of anyone who asks Cosmere questions at a Firefight signing. We're just venting since it strikes us as frustrating that there are so many Cosmere WoBs while we have barely any Fractured States worldbuilding to work off of in the RP here. 1

For one the implications of that would be somewhat premature for my tastes, plus not showing that on screen would be infuriating. Another thing. This is also for WoR Jashnah's Elsecalling seems very imprecise at the moment. Actually going in an excerpt showing a specific scene from her perspective. It shows the scene were Jashna totally didn't die (still don't have a clue how anyone thought she died ) and reveals that she can't actually return from Shadesmar back to the physical at will, so I doubt she has the control to go to Scardrial and back, yet. It's still oh so frustrating. Probably dosen't help that by living on a different continent my chances of asking a question myself is pretty much zero. I'm at 1:47 and listening to the audio is slowly turning into a chore. 3
Mailliw73 he/him Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Around the town perimeter would be something best described as a row of house sized diamond thorns, making it rather clears whose territory one would be entering. After that nothing special. What about guards, Epic or vanilla? I think the main issue is that for the most part, fans here don't like the Reckoners much. They usually read it, but even then, I know quite a few people who haven't read the Reckoners at all. They just don't find it as interesting and I can see their PoV, but you'd think that at least a couple people besides us would like to know the answers to these. 1

mail-mi he/him Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Still, seeing how the female Epic beat the Vanilla reminded him of someone, an arrogant Slontze that did his best to torment those weaker than him, while unaware that he’s barely more than an ant as well. You can't be talking about Reader, can you? 1

They work on the assumption that if guards can stop it they'll be able to deal with it themselves and big stuff like High Epics or tanks they'll be able to notice early enough (which I'm aware is a flawed premise). Plus, normally there would be an extra security sytem instaled between the pillars but that doesn't work without Lucentia around. It's that long? Dang. I wouldn't have the endurance to make it as far as you have, let alone through the whole thing. Let's hear it for Edgedancer and his dedicated endurance! The signing line is 3:24:43 and then there's also the reading of perfect state and the extra. It's not that hard, I'm used to listening to stuff in the background while still comprehending the important bits. You can't be talking about Reader, can you? I don't think he ever meet Reader, nor do I think he would survive getting his skull carved in. But people may guess who he's actually talking about. 4
