Sirce Luckwielder he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Sirce, would you mind spoilering that last post? I think almost all the players here have read the book, but there are visitors who haven't. And as Winter pointed out, this game is set two years before Steelheart. Edit: Spoilered. Just in case. Thanks for getting it for me. I put i up right before I left for a play and I didn't see that until now. I thought that we were okay to leave it open since this is a Reckoners RP. Sorry about that.
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Generally spoilers aren't allowed out of their specific Book's forum until the 6 month mark.
Voidus Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 So when did we want to get this tutorial thread set up? Mrs. Voidus is pretty excited too since it's been so long since she could do a Saccharine post. (Really regretting retiring those two so early in the night)
Mailliw73 he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 A warning for you guys: Tomorrow afternoon, I'm heading out of town for the long weekend, so I don't know how often, if at all, I'll be able to post. I'll be back Monday night sometime. I'll keep up through my email, and I might get time to write up some RP, but I don't know if I'll be able to post it. This Tutorial/Random Fight thread sounds really fun. I think we could set it up as soon as Twi wants. 2
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 I'm ready to set that thread up whenever.
Voidus Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I guess we need to decide on a firm location then.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 How about now? We might as well start it, I think. That'd give the new players somewhere to put their players without having to wait for Astoria or for a good time in the Dalles.
Mailliw73 he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Did we want a separate thread for the random fights or to just combine it with the tutorial?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 Where did you want to start it? If I don't get an answer, I'll put the location as "Random Gas Station, Anywhere, USA." Also, Kobold, would Darkrose's weakness have anything to do with the bakery?
Kobold King he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Where did you want to start it? If I don't get an answer, I'll put the location as "Random Gas Station, Anywhere, USA." Also, Kobold, would Darkrose's weakness have anything to do with the bakery? The Outback, maybe? Plenty of space. A few kangaroos to terrorize. Firefight spoilers: I considered making a specific pumpkin cupcake recipe her weakness, but somehow I couldn't justify Sam being terrified of a pastry. Her weakness is definitely connected to her home life, though. If you give up I could always just tell you. Like how I'll eventually have to tell you what Sunburst's weakness is. 3
Voidus Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Did we narrow it down to the US? I thought we were still somewhere between the earth and the moon?
Mailliw73 he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Did we want a separate thread for the random fights or to just combine it with the tutorial? If we're doing separate ones, a Möbius loop with random happenings(like Voidus suggested) would be cool for the fight one. The tutorial one should probably be on Earth, I think.

You will not let me make a comic of Sam's pastry nightmares. Was it screaming, shouting, or crying? 1
Kobold King he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Curse you, phone. You will not let me make a comic of Sam's pastry nightmares. Was it screaming, shouting, or crying? There's always tomorrow. Bingo! Specifically, a mother crying would cancel her death-making power. Mother defined as "a woman who has given birth." Like I said, it fits the prime universe's version of Sam better, since the Darkrose of the mirrorverse is the one who killed her family. But this verse's Samantha Trattner is a touch traumatized by her troubled home life, and the sound of her mother sobbing disturbs her at a visceral and nightmarish level. I think that weakness fits her. 4

I think that weakness fits her. On Saturday, I'll try to make it. The Super Bowl commercials this year inspired a different comic I have yet to make. Thought so! It does make sense, given her ability that kills in a few seconds. Kind of a natural protection from her weakness. And I'm intensely curious about Sunburst's weakness.

It does make sense, given her ability that kills in a few seconds. Kind of a natural protection from her weakness. And I'm intensely curious about Sunburst's weakness. I want to see that. If anyone were to chart out all of Darkrose's murders--definitely a depressing task--they would find that when killing a family, Darkrose always kills the mother first. She learned the hard way once or twice that killing a mother's child in her arms tends to draw tears. Sunburst's weakness is more symbolic, and I've yet to foreshadow it. I'll definitely foreshadow it before she actually becomes an Epic, though. Your turn. What would Springfield's weakness be? 3

I'll definitely foreshadow it before she actually becomes an Epic, though. Your turn. What would Springfield's weakness be? And you will, because I'm obligated now. Serves you right, Darkrose. You creepy creeperton. That's a hard one. This verse's Remington is almost fearless, so determining a fear strong enough for Calamity to latch onto isn't easy. But I think his weakness would be somewhat similar to Fortuity's: a woman he is attracted to who shares a secret of his with others. This traces back to his dating history as a teen and in college; before meeting Laurie, he had to deal with more than one ex who turned to, or attempted, blackmail. Laurie proved he could trust her, and thus kept a full-blown phobia from developing, but in this 'verse, he may well have never met Laurie. Though unlike Fortuity, Springfield guards his weakness by avoiding women altogether. 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Though unlike Fortuity, Springfield guards his weakness by avoiding women altogether. Avoiding women as in avoiding them? Or as in brutally slaughtering them? And is there going to be any limits on The Tutorial Thread? Is it going to have the same no godmodding rules and the same amount of planning?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 Avoiding women as in avoiding them? Or as in brutally slaughtering them? And is there going to be any limits on The Tutorial Thread? Is it going to have the same no godmodding rules and the same amount of planning? Avoiding as in refusing to interact with. Brutally slaughtering scores of women would potentially give the Reckoners a clue as to his weakness, not to mention give entire towns full of people a good reason to band together against a common enemy. By relegating women to the lower ranks of his army, allowing a select few to rise to the top but still refusing to speak with them directly, he can pass himself off as a sexist pig, rather than an Epic whose weakness is potentially half the human race. Definitely no godmodding, though I'm not sure what you meant by "planning."

I think that weakness fits her. Wow, Altermind's a genius. I didn't even know that, but wow. If she were Darkrose, They would've each unknowingly used the other's weakness. Only in this case, I didn't even know. I just figured it'd be something that got to Sam. I don't think there'll be as much planning, more writing by the seat of your pants methinks. Not that we do a whole bunch of planning anyway. Voidus, did you want to go next in the Dalles or do you want me to? 1
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 Do you know what scares me about the tutorial Thread? THe possibility of altermind and Reader teaming up to make the perfect torture Illusion for a Sam? 2
Edgedancer he/him Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I just gave Kobold his 9001th upvote. meme me up, Panda. Lots uf discussion going on while I was away. Here's my quick input (Moon)Arena: Sounds totally awesome, the possibility to just go nuts with some stuff gives some nice scenarios. (I'm calling dibs on the 100000000000001 ways that Nighthound died. ) Tutorialland: Would we just power it up whenever someone wants to do a test run or keep it going? If it's the later that hold the risk of creating its own canon that would intimidate new players all the same. (This was intended for those, right? Or is it just to test out characters?) Astoria: I would give it an 80% chance of going up on Valentine's day. Yay. One way or another it will happen before the next week starts. To spare you to many nightmares I'll just start with a Deathgale PoV. (Not that he's a nice guy at all.)

Tutorial land is intended to give new players a chance to test out their characters, but the idea of it gaining it's own canon could become intimidating. Maybe if we provide entry points for new players, then allow them to find others once they become more comfortable interacting with NPCs? You know a game is going to be intense when the least nightmare-inducing character has "Death" in his name. 1

You know a game is going to be intense when the least nightmare-inducing character has "Death" in his name. I understand the idea of having a tutorial, but if we just go at it like any other town it wouldn't be any different from the Dalles after some time, even if we plan for entry points. As long as the point is to "only" serve for getting a feel of their character and the basics it might be enough to just give them a couple of scenes in the moon arena of no continuity or a comparable location, maybe create a couple of characters specifically for that purpose, so there isn't any confusion with canon. Essentially making a non-canon one-shot for them. On a superfical level, I would say the Metal isn't as bad a Slontz as him but he's frightening in his own way and not as suited for opening the location.
