Argent he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 GRRM did say it should come out before season 6. I am about 70% inclined to believe him at this point.
navybrandt he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 At this point I'd settle for book 6 before I die. I'd settle for book 6 before GRRM dies. Of course I know an author that's great at finishing up people's work. 1
Argent he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Martin has said he won't let people finish his work. Because he is a @#$% presumably.
Guest Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I'd settle for book 6 before GRRM dies. Of course I know an author that's great at finishing up people's work. This is not the same... I feel Jordan had a greater respect for his fan base than Martin. Jordan also had a sickness which made him plan in advance for his premature death. It was very noble of him to put down in his testimony his wishes for his life's work to be completed because his fans deserved the read the ending he had planned. Jordans' last wishes also made me discover a brand new author nobody had talked much about just yet: Sanderson. I will forever be grateful. As for Martin... I dunno. I think the guy is getting full of himself: writing down boring anthologies instead of pushing for book 6. Even when he was sick, Jordan still worked at steady pace for his next book and even if the delay between them had elongated: we still new we would get the next one within a few years. Martin, I must say I have lost all hope of ever reading the end of the series as he has planned it. I am also loosing interest in those books rather quickly. Season 6 did not help: with the blood bath. I feel the producers skip way too much material to jump way too far in advance. I do not know why they butchered Stannis story plot the way they did. I hate it when an author starts to take his fan base for granted.
Quiver he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Author Posted June 18, 2015 Short comment, I'll make a more in-depth reply later: At this point, I want to know whether or not the show has split off from the book's projected storyline. The series has made some sweeping changes which should render the books finale impossible- Stannis' story in particular- but I worry that the showrunners are only "adapting" it, in the sense that they will be taking a different journey but the destination is the same. I honestly don't mind if the show does go off into it's own storyline; Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 pulled that off. But I wish the showrunners would come forward and tell us if that's what their doing, because I really, really don't want to be spoiled for the end of the books, and I don't want to be spending the books wondering IF those events will be different from the shows.
Argent he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 We don't actually know whether Stannis' story has changed. For all we know he might die early in Winds of Winter.
Bort he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 From the comments I've seen from GRRM and the staff that work on GoT, there is going to be considerable shift between the books and series. GRRM said it was because he didn't want fans of the books to get all spoilered. The ending of the TV show will not be the same as the ending in the books. Apparently.
Briar King Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 You can tell this Season went Alt Uni from the start imo
Adamir he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 (edited) Game of thrones - one of the only shows where you need your hands over Alt+Tab at every moment. Who knows when your mother might walk into the room? Happened to me; the awkwardness, screams and lectures are worth avoiding. Watch out for the moment when they refuse to believe that it is a TV series on the grounds that it would apparently be illegal to show it in films and television; I actually had to go get a TV schedule and show her that Game of Thrones was an actual TV series. StormingTexan he/him Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 I am also loosing interest in those books rather quickly. Season 6 did not help: with the blood bath. I feel the producers skip way too much material to jump way too far in advance. I do not know why they butchered Stannis story plot the way they did. I agree with this. Although I understand why they have been jumping around from the books to make this a more interesting TV series it is always frustrating when you have read and love the books. I guess we need to stop thinking of the books and the show as one in the same but the show as inspired by the books because it is pretty clear they are going their separate ways. The thing I wonder is for better or worst will Martin change his plan for the next two books? I could even see him doing it on a subconscious level. Like if he sees something he didn't think really work in the show and he changes the books or vice versa. We see this all the time with movies or shows being totally different than the books (usually for the worst I'm nodding to you Dune the movie) but this case is a little rare and the show is moving a lot faster than the books (I am close to giving up hope there will be two more books). Sometimes I have to remember that film captures a much bigger audience so the majority of people that watch GOT have no clue anything is different than the books. I was recently reminded of this watching Wayward Pines with my wife. They completely changed how everything happened so far compared to the books. It drives me insane yet my wife who didn't read the book sees absolutely nothing wrong with the show. 1
