So I can confidently say that Stormlight Archive is now my favorite fantasy series, depending upon this one thing. The Dark Tower is possibly about to be dethroned, and Wheel of Time is in top 10 only by a hair, mainly because of this problem. With that said I have to ask. Is this a “love triangle” forming between Kaladin, Shallan, and Adolin? This literary devise is my most LOATHED! Almost made me quit Wheel of Time! (Suffered through it.) I just began part 3 of Oathbringer and Kaladin is starting to catch the feels for Shallan, (insert the most animated eye roll of all time). Should go without saying, no spoilers, but please can someone tell me is this another love triangle worth trudging through?  I can’t believe I feel this way but this could be a possible road block for me in this series.

p.s. I will leave my rant on “love at first sight” on the sideline for now.

Well @Starlord716 that entirely depends on who you ask.

I think the fandom read way to much into it in the first place.

Personally I just ignored it and pretended it didn't exist altogether, and that was pretty easy to do.

I do not even consider it a "love triangle"' - there are other considerations in play.. The resolution was worth it to me.

Not a spoiler, just a reminder from last book - WoR Ch 71

Spoiler

She started down the chasm. He stood behind, feeling drained. And oddly brightened.

He should feel like a fool. He’d done it again—he’d been telling her how easy her life was, while she’d had that hiding inside of her all along. This time, though, he didn’t feel like an idiot. He felt like he understood. Something. He didn’t know what. The chasm just seemed a little brighter.

Tien always did that to me . . . he thought. Even on the darkest day.

Hope that helps..

No. It does not become a love triangle. You're safe.

I think it's a great example of a situation that *could* become a Love Triangle, but because it's about intelligent, introspective people who really want to connect and be happy, rather than anyone just craving to possess someone, it works out in a healthy way while still presenting some interesting internal dilemmas for the characters. The desires and anxieties that drive the situation all make sense for who they're happening to, and help them grow, but it never becomes one of those obnoxious Team Jacob Team Edward things.

There's a very funny scene in one of the Interludes that suggests to me what Brandon thinks of those kinds of stories.

Well, i'm a great fan of Shallan, but the idea that she is intelligent and introspective at that point in the story is sweet.

But then again she certainly does not want to posess people. She already owns some slaves, that she has conveniently forgotten.
