Day 5: Looking for Clues

Harley could feel that the House was alive, somehow. The wood and stones of its construction shuddered occasionally, as if they were breathing. His goal tonight, using his full detective persona, was to find the source of the life. Maybe, if the strange force imbuing the House were destroyed, everyone could go home. Well, not everyone. But at least the ones that were left.

Several hours later, Harley's eyes were beginning to droop, but he could feel that he was close. This part of the House, wherever it was, seemed even more alive than the rest. Every couple of seconds there was a thump-thump sound. It reminded Harley of the heartbeat of some great beast. There was one last door at the end of the hallway, and if that didn't have any answers, he'd call it a night.

As he stuck his head around the doorframe, Harley froze, feeling something hard press into his back.

"Can't have you looking in there, can we?" A voice spoke softly from behind.

Bang.

Harley @Verdance has been killed! He was an Innocent Explorer.

Day 5 has begun, and will end at 8PM Pacific Time on Saturday, May 2.

There will be a majority execution this cycle. There is no vote minimum, and ties will be decided randomly.

Ugh I got lost

So there’s little chance of Verdance having lied about not having the gun and then choosing to die with it right? Options here are either that someone shot them or that someone redirected a gunshot from someone else. Actually it’s probably simpler to just assume someone directly shot Verdance.

I know Miss Fallen didn’t have the gun. She was searching for items. I am 60% sure Doc was being honest with me about not having the gun. Either that or he chose not to reveal to me that he has the gun because he knows I’ll try to get him exed for a chance at the gun.

That leaves me with the choice of Mippo, Conure, or Qianwellian. I think I’m gonna vote for Mippo/___. I think Conure or Qian would’ve gotten more active last night if they’d had the gun. Or at least I hope they would have. So that leaves me with just Mippo.

I also didn't get a follow notif, wasn't someone gonna follow me?

Miss Fallen said last night they were gonna follow you. But then apparently searched for items instead, according to my fabrial. Not sure what happened there, but we at least know that Fallen didn’t shoot the gun.

What’s this about searching for items? Are we talking about night 3? Cause night 4 most of us were following people

Never mind, I see you’re talking about a fabrial. However, I don’t like this. I actually did follow mippo, but got lost. However, mippo also got lost and the odds of two people getting lost aren’t that high. Even weirder, Striker’s lying about my action- he would only do that for a reaction test or a cover up, and I’m inclined to be suspicious right now

I agree that it’s best to assume Verdance was just directly shot. We have know way of knowing whether the gift was used, unless the gift holder or the gun holder give us that information.

Without confirming or denying anything specific, I gave at least one player an incorrect result to their action last night. This has now been corrected, apologies for the mistake.

Hm. Annoying. Ver was going to use his fabrial on Mippo.

I assume the misunderstanding was between you two? Is that resolved now? 

My thought last night was probably that Mippo or Qian would be my votes today. Conure was pretty willing to go along with the following plan. @Qianweilian

Can you confirm if you were followed last night? 

Actions claimed so far 

Mippo - item but lost 

Fallen - follow mippo but lost 

Striker - fabrial on fallen 

Qian - found boot (claimed to me in pm) 

Conure - follow Qian (unconfirmed) 

Doc - follow Ver (unconfirmed) 

Striker and Fallen would clear each other. Qian could clear Conure. I think unless Qian has different information, Mippo/___ is my vote today.

Striker, extremely impressed that you happened to use your fabrial on the killer. 

If true, extremely funny that Miss Fallen called you out for lying about using your action on her. I'd have just kept quiet.

I would like to point out that this is a very convenient way for Striker to disguise his action and claim someone else has the gun.

Doc already mentioned that it’s unlikely Striker would end up using his fabrial on the killer, and this is why. Striker didn’t use a fabrial at all, and simply is trying to frame someone else as the killer. I don’t know what’s up with claiming a different result to the fabrial at first, but I’m guessing someone found him out and he needed a scapegoat. 
I got lost, I don’t have the gun, and right now I’m voting Striker.

"It's quiet." 

K. Tims and Variel stood glaring across from each other, accusations hanging frozen in the air. 

Liam, Randal, and Monopoly had chosen their side, standing with Variel. Technically, Verna had too. 

Oh Tims... The child protested her innocence. Far too late for the others to be convinced. Verna saw fear creep onto the girl's face. So young...

The house took and took. Brax, the magician, noble and conflicted, admitting to his sin. Patrick, a moment of weakness overcoming his principles before he gave himself up. Mabel, Taloned, untarnished, yet gone all the same. And now Tims, the Sage. Verna had not come into the house to make friends. Yet she had grown close to some. Killers and victims. Ultimate, all victims sacrificed to the house. 

Looking at Variel, Verna drew a card from Brax's deck. An old, wizened man, staring deeply into a crystal ball. The Vizier. She nodded to herself. The Vizier had seen through the veil, made his pronouncement. And she would follow. She had to. 

She walked over to Tims' side. Sat herself down. "I wish you had not used the weapon, child." 

...

"I understand why. Perhaps I would have, in your place. But oh, you are still so young. Why did you come into this house?"

...

She sighed. "I will stay with you. You may divest yourself of your guilt. Or you may stay silent, if you like." She offered a small smile. "Either way, I will stay by you. You will not be alone."

Ok, Striker’s right- I did fire the Smoking Gun. I just figured I would try and convince you all that I didn’t, as historically the gun holders have automatically died. However, now that you know this, I would argue it is in your best interest to not exe me. Right now, everyone has voted for me, meaning the pool of suspects is no different from the gun being randomly assigned- all 5 of you are suspects. 

I am the only one who is currently hard cleared for the next cycle, so if I stay alive then the pool of suspects next round goes from 5 to 4. So, to help with future rounds, it makes more sense to keep me alive than to kill me like we’ve done with previous gun holders. 
 

K.Tims stared at Verna. The lines had been drawn, there was no going back. But under Verna’s prodding, she broke down, voice trembling. 

“They dared me to come. And even though it was scary, I thought maybe it would be ok, because I found new yo-yo’s for my collection. But then I found the gun and it was full of smoke and voices and it was terrible, I just wanted it to stop. So when I saw Harley, I …” Tears creeped down K’s face. “I listened. I don’t know what to do, I just wanted to live.” 

K. looked up and saw only accusation in the faces around her. Verna was still gentle, but she was an odd one. In a last ditch effort, K. cast the gun aside, into the next room over. 

“Please, I can still help! I promise!” K. pleaded for mercy but found none.

With all her 13 years of life, Tims had thought she was smart enough to get out alive, but she had gambled wrong.  She was still just a child. A child collecting yo-yo’s, in a House that would consume them all.

Sure, but in the case that you are exed, I would want to be voting for you. It seems that the best scenario is to get the gun, fire it, then convince others you don't have it. I just don't want to die, and this seems to be the best course of action.

Monocle looked upon the child with sympathy, yet a crime such as this could not be forgiven. And so he stood his ground.

Fair. I mean, the point of keeping me alive would be that then I couldn’t kill you cause I would’ve handed of the gun and then I’d be cleared, but I get it.
