This episode takes place immediately after the events of episode 2

Clotho, Mistkeep, Clotho’s manor

Clotho woke up, downed the vial next to her bed, and burned gold.

Suddenly, she was standing over a woman a good five to ten years her senior, dressed in a night gown. Looking around, she saw the prim and well cleaned room of a noble. She hated nobles.

Clotho rolled out of bed, and picked up a journal on her bedside by instinct. She read the writing scribbled on the cover.

”READ IMMEDIATELY AFTER WAKING”

Oh yeah. Her memory jogger journal.

Her memory was fleeting at the best of times, so a reminder of who she was and what was going on was never a bad thing. Hers was a bit more raggedy than this one seemed to be, but it seemed to have the same purpose.

”Clotho, you are a private investigator in the Alleyverse, and you gained an F-copper medallion to store your memories about a year ago, and now have a vast memory archive in the store room.
The password is as follows:

the store room’s lock is awakened, so you don’t need a password, as it is keyed to your spiritual fingerprint.

If you can’t read the above line, please go to page 19 to get a refresher on your shorthand. It makes note taking much easier, and naturally encrypts your information”

Well, that’s good. At least I can read my own shorthand today.

”your latest case is on the desk in your study.”

Clotho turned around and got out of bed. Looking around, the house she was in painted a different picture than she had first thought. Sure, this was undoubtedly an expensive place. But beyond being clean, and way more expensive than she had money for, it wasn’t as pompous as one would expect. The ceiling was fairly low, and there were very few decorations, like the owner of the place didn’t plan on having many guests over. Which she supposed made sense, given her eccentricity.

On the far wall, there was a convenient map of the house, with labels and everything. Heading over to the study, Clotho wondered who she was with today. Glancing over to her other half, she got her answer fairly quickly. She wore raggedy jeans and a warm-looking jacket, both of which were clearly slept in from the night before. On her head laid a well worn flat cap.

Great. She was with a 30 year old newspaper boy.

Which was, of course, far from the truth. Just because she looked like a street urchin, didn’t mean she was. I mean, for all she knew she was, but this was just an outfit to meet employers’ expectations. A professional snoop had to look like one, dammit!

Well, it was nice to be with someone of a similar profession. Clotho made her way to the cork board and used the file on the desk to jog her memory. Ah yes. A mysterious figure has been spotted around the city, and they appear to have matter manipulating abilities. Her employer thought he could be dangerous, so he hired her to investigate. Which she was sure she could handle.

as long as it didn’t get physical.

“I… don’t know where you’re going. I can help you if Thavel isn’t where you expect, though, like with breaking him out of somewhere or finding information on his whereabouts.”

Eza grabbed two matching knives with iron implanted inside of their hilts. Tiny emeralds were set in a ring around the edge of the hilt and little inlays of gold snaked through the dark wood. They were her second favorite pair, her first favorite having been lost when she was captured.

She also grabbed a small, thick wooden board that could be affixed to her wrist, almost like a shield. This was significantly less elegant than her knives.

”I can also help you with spotting hemalurgists and running away from dangerous people, if need be. Or with stabbing ‘em.”

She tossed one knife upwards, blade facing downwards, then ironpulled on the iron in its handle. The dagger turned unnaturally in middair so that it was falling hilt first, and she calmly let it fall back into her hand. She’d been practicing with these a lot.

@Qianweilian

Aradan Liese, Mistwarrens

"I...have been told a place where I might find him, but I was told it was secret. I would greatly appreciate your help, but he told me this place in confidence. You mention that I shouldn't have trusted Thav, but he trusted me. I'm not going to betray that. On Scadrial, I battled with criminals and brigands. I know how wily and deceptive people can be."

Aradan watched as Eza threw a knife into the air and then pulled it back into her hand. She's clearly mastered iron. "I'll be going now. I cannot tell you where his hideout is." He turned towards the door and opened it.

Ebonaryle, New Hallandren, Garrison

Ebon stopped before a dark cell. He knew instantly it was the right one. All the other prisoners ran up to their bars, mumbling or begging, or cowered at the back of their cells. But the girl in this one didn't do any of that. Instead, she sat composed against the back wall of her enclosure, gazing into the passageway expectantly. Until she saw Ebon, and her face fell into a mask of fear. To her credit, she erased it quickly. But he had seen enough.

Ebon paused before her cell, then leaned forward to get a closer look at her. Sure enough, that was a lab coat, covered in soot. She must've made it just out of the range of the explosion. Ebon thought for a second about how to proceed. Then he decided to take the quick way. In an instant, he Shifted, drifted into the cell, and reformed. Before the girl could react, he grabbed her by the neck and pinned her to the wall. She let out a quick shriek, and he felt her heart thump under his carapace. In the distance, he heard an explosion. He attuned once more the Rhythm of Executions, and growled.

"Tell me all you know."

Limel, New Hallandren, Garrison

"Uhh..." the things they had confiscated. Where were they? "Your things should be in a locker. But, if I'm being honest... they're probably lying in someone's office somewhere." He gave a sheepish smile.

Suddenly, a massive boom rocked the floor beneath their feet. Limel spun as the blast door they had come in through slammed open a couple meters behind them. He watched, in almost excruciating slow motion, as a constable in full uniform fell face first through the gate. The body - face coated in red - hit the floor, and as their gazes aligned, Limel saw something come over the officer's eyes. The man opened his mouth to scream - but then, suddenly, a red cloth swung in from beyond the doorway where Limel couldn't see and wrapped around his mouth. The constable's eyes widened, and as Limel watched in shock, the cloth pulled his body back out through the doorway. For a couple seconds, everyone stayed frozen, listening to sounds of screaming and beating from outside, staring at the human shaped, red mark that now stained the previously clean corridor floor.

Then the alarms came back on, and all colors broke loose.

Suddenly, Lux heard a massive explosion from across the street, and if he were to turn his head, would see screaming people running from the sight of the explosion and hooded figures racing towards what was left of the garrison.

Lux, New Hallendren, Garrison

"WHAT?" Lux exclaimed, using his real voice this time. He started running towards the explosion center, muttering, "That must of been enough of a distraction for him."

Reyx, New Hallandren, New Hallandren Garrison

An explosion cracked through the air, sending debris flying out like some deadly blossom. Nearby, someone yelled with an unfamiliar voice, and the human - Lightweaver - darted away from inside the smoke. Towards the explosion. Reyx hesitated, confused. Didn't people generally run away from explosions, especially humans, so - had they been talking to the Fused? Could a Fused be a Lightweaver?

Damnation. When did this all get so complicated?

Reyx hurried out of the smoke, heading after the maybe-Fused, maybe-Radiant. If the weapon was antilight, it was unlikely they'd be heading that way, so Reyx concluded that at least if they died, they could back up their decision.

@CoderDrag0n8 @Fizz9

Cayansa, New Hallandren, New Hallandren Garrison

The floor rattled with an explosion, drowning out whatever Limel was saying. A bloodied man fell through the door, then out again, red cloth binding him as though controlled by some macabre puppeteer. Alarms blazed out and someone outside was screaming - no, many someones. Explosion? Antilight? Reyx!

Cayansa scrambled back, away from the door. If they couldn't fight, then the least they could do would be to not get caught in the crossfire. A few strips of metal had peeled away from the door in the blast like rotting skin. Almighty, how powerful had that been? How many hurt?

Cayansa picked up the nearest of the metal shreds, ignoring the way it cut into their palms. Ralkalest. It wasn't a weapon, not by a long shot, but it was better than nothing.

Vex, The Corridor

The day had started just like any other. After arriving in Alleycity, around one year ago, Vex just picked up his life, better here than back in Newcago. He hadn't had an attack since he arrived, but as he settled down for the night, it happened. He blacked out. When he came to, Vex, was sitting in a pile of ash, surrounded by flowers. He quickly stood up, brushed himself off, then used his Epic powers to create some new vases for the flowers, he never liked ash, but something made him think his Epic side did. Realizing he only blacked out for five minutes, he then went for a walk. Down the Corridor he went, until he reached the edge. This was his space, the space for his art, people knew to respect his space. He sat down and started thinking about what to add next.

@DcD25yhtdA8

Clotho, The Corridor

Clotho skulked down the corridor, careful to stay out of sight of her target. When it came to her job, such skills were invaluable. They came naturally to her, and she couldn't remember how she had gained them. She imagined it came with repeated exposure and a heavy reliance on her copperminds to keep those skills fresh. Those really were handy. If she ever met her past self, or someone close enough to her past self, she would make sure to thank them.

This particular nook of the Corridor was covered in elaborate works of art, ranging from sculptures to vases to paintings. They were incredibly detailed, impossible things, and something that no ordinary person could make. The area was also strangely absent of people. The Corridor was usually bustling with people, but not this corner. All this art, but no visitors to appreciate it. If Clotho had cared much for art, she would have felt saddened.

Both her and her shadow hid on opposite sides of the street. Technically, her shadow was only visible to her, and with a little focus, she could tell which one of her was real and which was a shadow. But that felt...wrong. A shadow didn't want to admit it was the shadow. And she was sure the noblewoman would be none too pleased to know that she was a fake.

Both Clothos watched the man carefully from behind their cover.

Vex, The Corridor

He reached to the ground, and pulled up a block of cement, Then he focused and most of the block turned to dust. When the dust cleared he was holding an intricately carved pot, he set it down and looked around for another block.

Eza frowned. This was an inconvenient time for Aradan to start treating her with the amount of trust she deserved.

”Alright. Good luck, then.”

She slid her dagger into a sheath, plopping down in a corner and watching Aradan leave. Eza couldn’t just let him go, since those people were surely going to continue coming after them both. She had a feeling that she wouldn’t be able to convince him to betray Thavel, however, so she would have to resort to less direct tactics. She’d wait for him to turn the street corner, then use his many gold rings to track where he was while staying far enough back to avoid detection.

She wasn’t entirely sure what the step after that was, but she could figure that out later.

Aradan sighed. Eza truly seemed to be trustworthy. But, that's not my secret to reveal. Perhaps we can meet up later. Aradan walked outside, breathing in the cool air.

He stuck his hands in his pockets and continued along the road. Pausing for a second, he realized he didn't actually know the area as well as he would've liked.

Hopefully I won't get lost.

As Vex looked around, he saw nothing else, so he left. No use in losing sleep admiring art, especially when the art was his own. As he walked back to his apartment he realized how tired he was. By the time he got back to his apartment he was already half asleep. "Next time, don't use so much energy after already using more than usual," trying to make it stick in case he blacked out again.

In the end, it took him less than five minutes. And as he entered his final Jump, prepared to leave the garrison, three words repeated in his head.

The Warbreaker Ball.

Midas, New Hallandren, Garrison

Midas turned the corner, just in time to watch Ebon vanish in a puff of smoke. Colors! He was here longer than Midas had expected. Had he not simply assumed the fused would have grabbed the prisoner and run, perhaps he could have made it in time to stop him. Pushing aside that thought, Midas ran over to the cell that the fused disappeared from. To his shock, the prisoner was still there. Bruised and beaten, the Crimson Breath agent was still alive. "What did you tell him?" He demanded.

Suddenly, a shuriken flew past Midas, slicing the agent's throat. Midas swiftly turned to see a cloaked figure in a crimson robe, hand outstretched. By the Colors, the Crimson Breath had arrived.

As fate would have it, so had the rest of the garrison. Units recalled and have arrived at base. Crimson Breath is here, the message came over the comms. Sending a brief reply back, Midas got to work.

Quote

Let me know if there was a need to keep that agent alive. I figured that since he was already got to by Ebon, he was a further liability to the Crimson Breath to be alive, given they could still talk to the garrison.

Clotho, The Corridor

Clotho watched as the man left, and she silently followed. Seems the matter manipulation was true. A very dangerous ability indeed. She stored the memory of his ability to analyze later. If you had such a power, why make art with it? And why keep to yourself about it? No use in asking such questions, she thought. That's for the boss to ponder.

Clotho shook her head. She was the boss, dammit! It was always a struggle, keeping her selves separate. It was usually easier than this, though. With such a similar personality, and an occupation that made doing exactly what she was doing make total sense, things got very difficult.

Sorry for the wait! Finals was doing as finals do, and ended up being more of a challenge than I had imagined. Now that the semester is officially over, I should have much more time for Alleyverse stuffs.

Lux, New Hallandren, Outside of New Hallandren Garrison

Hey, Fractal. What do you think Ebon wants me to do?

Hmmm. I don't kno-

Lux cursed under his breath, ducking with the spren.

"Find Cover!" He heard the spren shout, as Lux looked up at the air where the bullet had just whizzed by.

Reyx, New Hallandren, New Hallandren Garrison

"Are you alright?" Reyx called through the smoke. They could still sense the four Investiture sources around them, which hopefully meant they hadn't been injured. Crimson blurs ran through the smoke around them. If one good thing had come of this, at least the smoke gave people a little longer to run.

Reyx! Where are you?

The mistspren's motion stopped, then spun in a cascade of light. Cayansa! Are you injured? I might have found a Lightweaver!

Cayansa, New Hallandren, New Hallandren Garrison

Still following Limel, Cayansa ducked as a shruiken sliced overhead, then another as more and more scarlet-clad figures filled the hallways. What did they want?

I'm alright, they called to Reyx, If somewhat under attack. You've found the Lightweaver? Can you get them to-

I've found a Lightweaver, Reyx interrupted, But I doubt it's the one behind this.

Reyx, you doubted the Fused were at Urithiru for anything other than diplomacy right up until they started killing people. Where are you?

Outside. Somewhere. There are two Radiants and their spren and a lot of smoke, which is obscuring us slightly. I think the red people might be able to sense Investiture.

Damnation. Stay safe, Reyx. I'll try to... Cayansa trailed off, looking around them. Fight? Heal someone? Find their fabrials? Even surviving felt beyond their control. ... Just stay safe.

Gritting their teeth, they ran after the others.

"Wh-What just happened?" Lux asked, shaken.

Reyx didn't frown, not in the human sense, but his glimmering slowed rapidly. "We're... probably under attack," they said, "But it's not the Lightweaver again." Is that you? I can't tell. "It might be the Fused from earlier, or it might be a completely different faction. They might be able to sense Investiture."

Hello! I'm the newest Alleyverser. You can take a look at my character if you want, (It should be the latest on the character thread) and I've written a beginning scene to enter the episode

Waymaker, Taldain

Waymaker gritted his teeth as held his hand to his wounded leg. It burned with pain. Just...Need...Enough...Power! He heard the others running after, shouting and heard the sound of Awakened cloth rushing towards him. Nearly...There! He heard the cocking of a pistol, seconds behind him. There! And with a sickening feeling he teleported.

 Waymaker, Above The Alleycity

"Woah!" He was suddenly high in the air, falling quickly. His powers let him determine that he was in the air above the Alleycity while his leg blazed from the sudden movement. Not the best place, but it would do, for now. The wind whipping past his face made it hard to think but as he strained his ears he thought he heard gunfire from below him. What is going on down there? He thought.

Vex, The Corridor

When Vex came to he couldn't remember what had happened last night, except for the fact he blacked out. "No, no no no NO!" he yelled. He started recounting when he first blacked out nearly five years ago, the day his parents died, the day that he called Enlightenment.
