MasterGhandalf Posted February 10 Posted February 10 I was just looking back over the 2025 State of the Sanderson today and I found myself coming back to the section on potential future Cosmere projects, the ones that are far enough in the future Brandon doesn't appear to have concrete plans for them (and at least some of them likely won't ever see the light of day at all). Here's the section I'm thinking of, for context: Quote Other Random Cosmere Projects The Night Brigade, Dragonsteel, The Silence Divine, the Grand Apparatus, Mythos, the Aether World book series, Free Fall Seven Layer Burrito World, Caveman Heist, Unnamed Other Ashyn Book... My, my. This list keeps growing, doesn’t it? That’s how it goes. Most of these are just idle thoughts, and none are promised. Many have been on there for over a decade, so I like to drop them into the list when I have something solid in mind, but I won’t be able to get to all (or even most) of them. My question here being, which of these are you most interested in seeing, or would most want to be sure would be completed out of this list? Here are my rankings: 1. Dragonsteel. I don't think this is particularly unusual, since this one has been hyped for a long time as part of the "Core" Cosmere saga, would have the backstories for Hoid, the original Vessels, and likely other prominent characters, and would give a chance to finally see Yolen, which sounds like a very interesting setting from what I've gathered about it so far. Easy number one. 2. Aether series. It feels like it gets pretty heavily hinted at in The Lost Metal that there's important stuff going on regarding Dhatri, and like Yolen it sounds like an interesting setting and with Aethers having been popping up in various Cosmere works lately, I'd really be interested in digging more into the lore around them. 3. Night Brigade. I've been itching to see a return to Threnody ever since "Shadows for Silence" (Final Empire-era Scadrial remains one of my favorite Cosmere settings in terms of atmosphere, and Threnody has a similar brooding, sinister post-apocalyptic vibe, to a somewhat greater extent even) and especially with all the teasing about about the Night Brigade as a group in Sunlit Man and the Evil's appearance in Emberdark. 4. Ashyn books. Listing Silence Divine and the other unknown Ashyn book together for simplicity's sake - these don't grab me as strongly as the previous ones, but Silence Divine in particular is something Brandon has been teasing for so long now, and checking in on Ashyn and seeing what's going on there and learning more about it definitely does intrigue me (though I imagine we'll be getting some of this in the second Stormlight arc as well). 5-8. Listing the remainder (Mythos, Seven-Layer Burrito, Grand Apparatus, whatever "Caveman Heist" is) together because we know so little about any of them it's hard for me to get that excited or to rank them against each other. Mythos might intrigue me the most, just because of when and how it got namedropped in Mistborn and what a blank slate it especially is. But I don't really have anything more concrete to say about any of these for the moment. Well, that's my list. I know it's very unlikely we'll see all of these projects completed, but I do hope we get some of them, especially the ones I ranked in the top four. Anyone else have thoughts?
Oranjejuicemonki He/Him Posted February 10 Posted February 10 (edited) I'm super excited for the Cosmere works by Dan Wells (a little lower down on that same State of Sanderson). I read his stuff after listening to Intentionally Blank and he's such a great author. He actually helped write the Elsecaller short story in the double book thing, but I haven't read that one yet sadly. But ya Free Fall Seven Layer Burrito World! Had no clue that'd be Cosmere but I'm excited! Edited February 10 by Oranjejuicemonki
Aliroz-The-Confused Posted February 10 Posted February 10 (edited) As I've said before, if mister Sanderson really wanted me to be like :D, he'd write 600 Pages Of The Set Getting Wrecked or The Liberation Of Obrodai or announce a Bavadin Has A Horrible Day Involving A Wood-Chipper, Twenty-Seven Anvils, Unexpected Enemies With Folding Chairs, And The Realization That She Never Got To Tell Rayse That She Loved Him book or movie. But, as for the ones on that list, I have BOATLOADS OF HYPE for Unnamed Other Ashyn Book. Edited February 10 by Aliroz-The-Confused
JustQuestin2004 he/him Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Book of Nails is something I've been wanting to read for a long while. I'd love to get the chance to explore a little more of Era 2 apart from Wax and Wayne. And the few parts of Nicki Savage's adventures we've been able to see in the Broadsheets had me hooked. Hope it released sometime this year or the next. Also really want the Dark Side Taldain books, its practically Khriss's origin story and I'd love to know more about it, as well as more about Star Marks. 1

It checks a lot of boxes: Explore Era 2 Nazh, you know, it's funny (we know nothing about him) (except in IoTE) Explore Mistborn stuff + chromium Title makes me think Hemalurgy will be explored further Get to see what Stewart is like 1
Through the living Wahr He/Him Posted February 10 Posted February 10 My List does look somethin like thsi: 1. Ashyn Book, I really want to see that disease magicsystem 2. Aether Book set on Dhatri, really want to see the other Aethers and more of the Aetherbound, though another Lumar Book, showibg some of the other Seas would be fine as well. 3. Mythos, I like the Name. And Book of Nails, I really wanna now how Raising the Dead will work with the Metallic Arts 4. Dragonsteel, yeah the Origin of the Cosmere would be intrersting as well as seeing more Dragons, but this doesnt grab me as much as the rest 5. Any other Cosmere Project
Espella Posted February 10 Posted February 10 Mistborn has always been my favorite of the Cosmere settings and I love the broadsheet stories in Era 2, so I've really been looking forward to that Nicki Savage book. Haven't seen anything mentioned about it in a while so hope it's still being worked on. I've also been waiting for the Warbreaker sequel for a long time and I suspect that it's going to keep getting pushed back further and further now that Brandon has signed on to write screenplays for adaptations, if we ever see it at all. Feels like it's in danger of getting cut for time entirely if he gets too busy since all the important characters have made their way to Stormlight at this point so he might not consider it essential to the overall story of the Cosmere but I still want to see more of Nalthis. Of the random side projects that have been mentioned the only one I have any interest in is Night Brigade since we've seen Threnody before, I'm sure the others could be good but I have no expectations for them at the moment given we basically just have titles and a loose concept pitch. The kite magic book he mentioned offhand a few times does sound kind of fun though.

SheepAreFluffy Posted February 10 Posted February 10 My two most anticipated/hoped for are The Grand Apparatus and the not-mentioned-here potential story from the Dark Side of Taldain. In general, I'm more interested in seeing the random stand-alones than the big multi-part epics that tie into the Deep Lore. We're already going to be getting plenty of the latter with Mistborn and Stormlight, so I'm excited for the books that aren't like that. With the stand-alones, Sanderson is free to come up with interesting worlds, magic systems, and characters without havign to worry overly about how things fit into continuity. The Grand Apparatus specifically seems like such a cool and interesting concept to me, and could have been tailored to meet my own tastes and preferences. The tiny hints of it that we got in Isles of the Emberdark only served to whet my appetite further. The Dark Side book does go somewhat against this desire, since it's more entwined with the core of the Cosmere, but I really want to see more Khriss, and am interested to see how Star Marks work too. My two least anticipated are Night Brigade and Dragonsteel. Dragonsteel because it's just too far in the future for me to care about it yet. It feels like it's almost certain to get written but almost certainly not for over a decade, so it doesn't seem worth my while to have any particular thoughts or feelings about it yet. Night Brigade is right at the bottom of my list because I didn't really enjoy Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell and don't really care about seeing more Threnody. The general aesthetic of dark fantasy and horror just isn't my jam.

I could imagine the book of nails, to be quite the good setting for the Mistborn rpg. A mysterious book that holds the secrets to the universe and the dead and if it lands in the wrong hands, it would mean doom? Sounds like a quest to me! 1

Book of Nails has been on my top list for a while now. More Scadrial and more HEMALURGY is more than enough to convince me. Caveman Heist sounds so bizarre and different than what I'm used to in the Cosmere that I now really want to read it. Silence Divine I think we got a tiny sliver of, and now I want to finish it to see the rest of the disease magic. Grand Apparatus should be pretty cool, especially after recent events in books. 1
