He then strode towards the newcomers

“What… are these things?”

… and just like that, once again, no one cared she was leaving. That stung.

The drone from the ship flew over to her. A red light shot out from it, moving up and down as if scanning the woman.

One of the humans - 18142 - turned to face them.

"This is the Trisolaran Fleet," he said.

She winced and covered her eyes.

The drone spun around, scanning other features of the clearing. With a staticy crackle, a voice spoke from the drone. “This is a place of refuge, I see.” The drone turned back to the woman. “What did you flee from in coming here?”

Nothing in particular. It’s just gathering data on this thread and its inhabitants.

“You have a fleet that can fly?”

Ralorin could barely comprehend this. What kind of magic allowed for flight of such a magnitude?

She tensed and moved her hands slowly behind her back, pulling down the cuffs of her jacket sleeves. “That’s a bit of a personal question, isn't it?"

“I suppose. But I am curious what manner of threats this place gives protection against.”

She looked a bit down. “There’s… a lot."

"Yes. It is a space fleet."

“Why have you come here?”

Spoiler

Why are you here?

You’re being given a final option

Consider this your one last chance

Now I have dangerous going through my head

And for good measure you lost the game

Staying in TLT would have been a little bit dangerous, my friend

“TLT? And since when would you need to escape a narrator of all things? What could he possibly do, insult you?”

Sol steps up next to them,

”One thing I’ve learn from observing so many realities, don’t question other’s magics.”

"The Longest Thread. And it is not that kind of Narrator."

"Have you been to many places?"

Ralorin considered this

“Very well. This is true.”

TLT thing?

Sol considers for a moment, “I cannot say I’m familiar.”

Yep.

Authors as in us, writing these characters.

18142 shook his head. "I will not tell you, then." He paused. "What are some of these places you have been to?"

Oooo cool lore

“I come from a world by the name of Corotto. A fractured world of competing forces. I am of one of these forces” Sol pauses, thinking, “The world of Hiraeth is a modern world. One of power and revolution. My sister-“

Sol cuts himself off, eyes dropping.

18142, noticing that this was probably a sensitive topic, changed the subject. "Does much happen in this place?" he asked.

18142 hadn't heard of any of the places Sol mentioned. He was inclined to believe that Sol wasn't a Threadhopper. Good to know.

Sol took the change away from the topic with charge,

”This place exists to serve the finder. We’re all escaping from something, and this place serves as a haven. From the lore I’ve heard, things of any variety can happen here.”

18142 nodded.

Sandy, the other human from the Trisolaran starship, walked up to them, though something looked wrong about the way his legs moved. He whispered something to 18142.

Another figure walked up, who looked almost exactly like Sandy, except his movement was normal. His eyes darted between Sandy and 18142. "I have heard about you," the unnamed clone said. He did not seem to see Sol and Ralorin. Sandy locked eyes with the clone, and they stared at each other for a long minute. Finally, the clone's shoulders slumped, and he strode over to the Trisolaran ship and disappeared beyond the door.

"Sorry about that," 18142 said. "He is one of us, and isn't supposed to be here."
