Legends say that somewhere, at the edge of creation, there exists a clearing. It is said to be a peaceful place, without conflict, where one’s problems cannot find them.

Many seek the clearing. Some for refuge, against monsters mythical and not. Some for an escape from their problems and thoughts.

Few find it when they seek it outright. Only when you most need it will it appear.

It appears to some as a simple clearing in the woods, surrounded by towering green trees. For others it takes on a more mythical appearance.

The clearing appears as what would best serve the finder.

Had an idea for a new general rp

Cause our OCs need rest, here’s the place they can find it

Choose or create a character, write them a little intro to finding the clearing, the jump right in!

Sol thought the idea of the clearing foolish.

He had existed outside of space for millennia. He had travelled through distant worlds and realities. With this experiences comes a clear and present fact: nothing in these many multiverses exists for peace.

They exist to try and test people. To shape them into their strongest self through hardship. A idyllic place of peace and serenity does not fit this rule and, therefore, should not exist.

Though, if that was the case, then Sol should not be looking out across a clearing of dark grasses and golden trees, not in this place.

Sol had found himself on a barren plane. His sister Chemia had bested him in combat with the help of a mortal, and allowed for the completion of the Archivists seal. With this, Sol was thrown out and away from that reality.

Though, he didn’t find himself in Kaos like he expected. No. Instead, he was placed on this barren world, with unforgiving winds and a dark sky.

So, why then was he staring out at this place of peace.

Sol stepped into the clearing and felt..content. Safe. Warm in a way he had never felt.

He sat on plush, black grass, watching the golden leaves drift carefully down from the trees and breathed.

The River King sat down, and rested.

His Kingdom had long since fallen.

eaten by the ravages of the wild.

So, he sunk himself into the grass next to the pool, at rest.

Feeling the grass on his skin, he peacefully fell asleep.

A Man follows the winding willow trees to a glade perhaps even a clearing.

Even without his memories he knows this is a peaceful place.

The leaves shook in the wind providing a soothing noise to all who are weary and feeling at peace for a long time the man sits down to feel the sunlight through the trees.

Sol glances to the new arrivals, weary.

He knows that, by the nature of this place, they must have faced their own trials. He does not want to disturb their peace. If he was worthy of entry then he cannot fathom what these others must have encountered.

Instead, he nodes a greeting to the man sitting across the clearing from him and sends a silent wish that the King enjoy his rest, for a time.

A Man notes others who are here after taking a quick glance. He wonders the what’s, when’s, where’s, and why’s of the place knowing that answering them would be tough but that is true of every question no matter the circumstance.

Lilith had been wandering through the forest for...she didn't know how long. All Lilith knew was that she couldn't continue for much longer. She had told herself that many times before, but this time it was most likely true.

Lilith stumbled over the root of a gnarled tree and fell face-first into the dirt. She considered not getting up. She could just...rest here, for a little while, couldn't she? But what was left of Lilith's mind seemed to urge her to get up, to keep on going, for just a little longer.

That piece of Lilith's mind made her get up. Or she simply listed to its advice. She wasn't sure. And so, disheveled and caked with dirt, sweat, and blood, Lilith used trembling arms to lift herself up and get back on her feet. When she did, some of the grime was washed away by joyous tears as she took in the sight of the clearing before her.

For those who have interacted with this character before, this isn’t IC canon, this is a split timeline where she hasn’t gone to the Clinic.

If you haven’t interacted with her, just know she’s off the table for romances

Aventine didn’t know how she got to the clearing. She was suddenly just… there. She pulled her jacket tighter around herself.

The River King lightens a bit at your wish, and you feel a general sort of thankfulness, even if you know it isn't your emotion.

A Man notices a girl suddenly appearing. Hmm that’s he thinks to himself. In a forceful manner he says “hey where did you come from?”

The Constant opened his eyes, finding himself in the Clearing. He put a hand to his head, then realized…

He couldn’t feel them. Not a single of his subjects. He was the Eternal King… without a kingdom.

He knew why. He didn’t even disagree with the methods of the Render. But…

He felt tired.

The Constant was… constantly exhausted.

Sol watches the interactions and new arrivals. Sensing the unease and exhaustion coming from the others in the clearing, he does his best to stay away, but wanting to disturb them.

However, he sees a woman crying, with dirt and blood streaking her face. Sol stands up, and carefully walks closer to her.

Without words, he pulls a small black cloth from his belt and offers it to her.

I realized I subconsciously switched to a more present-tense to mirror yours lol.

Lilith sees a man approach through blurry eyes. He silently proffers an object, which she recognizes as a cloth when he gets closer.

Lilith, at first, is overwhelmed as she sees other weary figures in the clearing. She reaches out and takes the cloth, nodding to the man in a way she hopes conveys appreciation. She begins to wipe her tears—and some of the grime—away.

The first thing Sol notices is how tired he looked.

Sol walks over to him and gently states,

”All is well here. I believe this place exists to allow us rest.”

A woman with brown hair and stark violet eyes strode into the edge of the clearing, and stopped. It was gone. That constant pressure on her mind. Telling her to find him, kill him, leave no trace of him even in history...

She sank to her knees and sobbed. What had she done? Her brother.... She curled up in the grass. Something about this place drove away her worries. That was nice.

The scent of the Clearing was wrong—it lacked the sharp tang of salt and the wet stone of a Thaylen harbor—and for that, she was profoundly grateful.

She entered the grove with the measured, rolling gait of someone used to the decks of ships, her long, pale eyebrows tucked back behind her ears in the fashion of a scholar from the Isles. She wore the heavy, practical robes of a philosopher, though the silk was stained with the dust of realms that had never seen a highstorm.

To those by the fire, she was Esyllt: a quiet academic seeking the objective center of the cosmere. A safe face. A lie told so often it had begun to feel like skin.

She didn't seek the center of the camp. Instead, she claimed a spot where the shadows of the trees bled into the firelight, her movements deliberate and soft. She reached back to adjust her high collar, her fingers lingering for a fraction of a second on the cold, hidden pulse of the copper spike at the nape of her neck. It was a rhythmic thrum, a reminder that the Spiker was always just a shadow behind her.

Log 402, she thought, her mind automatically categorizing the Investiture of the grove. The air is stagnant. Safe. A vacuum for the weary.

She pulled a thick, ink-stained journal from her satchel—not the Universal Encyclopedia she dreamed of, but the one she used to maintain the mask. With a sigh that seemed to carry the weight of three different lifetimes, she sat, her spine finally curving out of its defensive tension.

"They say the wind on every world carries a different secret," she said, her voice carrying the melodic, slightly rhythmic lilt of a Thaylen speaker. She didn't look up from her book, her charcoal pencil scratching a restless pattern on the page. "But here... the wind sounds like it’s forgotten its own name. I think I should like to learn that dialect of silence."

She looked toward the fire, her eyes wide and reflecting the embers—not with the fear of a fugitive, but with the hollow, aching hunger of a woman who had seen too much and belonged to none of it.

"Does anyone mind if a wandering student shares the quiet?" she asked, her smile a fragile, practiced thing. "I’ve come a long way for a conversation that doesn't require a disguise."

Sol looks up, and smiles slightly at the question.

”Of course not. So long stuck in the abyss, I too sometimes wish for simple conversation. One that does not have to lead to revenge or retribution.”

The River King wakes up from his slumber. Weary and tired, he reflects on his past.

I guess... I'm no longer a River King, am I? No. Now... Now I am just a former King, with a kingdom long forgotten.

A Man hears in his mind forgotten. Quickly looking around for the source he sees a being that looks majestic and identifies him as the source of the forgotten. “Maybe he knows something about my affliction” The Man thinks.
