Please spoil away for me here.

What are the unoathed shards capable of doing?  Can the plate pop into existsnce when needed? Or be invisible like other living plate? Can it provide protection while not being a 1300 lb block of living spren wearing down the halls of a home?

Can the blade change forms and does it summon instantly?

The Unoathed were only introduced at the end of WaT so we dont realy know what they are Capable (admittedly i dont know if the RPG revealed something)

We will probably see more in Book 6 or maybe the Horneater novella

What we see the Unoathed spren do is appear as Blades and the helms of Plate. When the Unoathed put on the helm, the rest of the suit appears from nowhere like a summoned Blade. The Plate does not need Stormlight infusions to function, and has a glow that standard Plate does not, but it's pointed out that they do not bear symbols like Radiant Plate.

This has to mean something, because the symbols aren't as simple as being the relevant Radiant orders. When Kaladin manifests his Plate it bears a Bridge Four glyph. Something about the knight's personal loyalty and beliefs goes into the symbol that appears. And yet it only happens on Radiant Plate, because we can assume that men like Adolin and Yanagawn and the other Unoathed have things that matter to them and symbols they might bear, for example Alethkar or the Azish Empire.

The Unoathed Plate also does things standard Plate does not do, like verbally warn Adolin of incoming attacks.

So the overall impression that I get is that the Unoathed Plate is alive and vibrant the way Radiant Plate is, but because it's not built on a mystical bond between spren and man, it is not transformed into a declaration of the wearer's identity. It is the spren showing themselves as themselves. (As armor) I think this is the same reason we don't see the Unoathed Blades transforming.

I think that Radiant plate could probably also warn it's wearers, and if we haven't seen it (I can't recall), I would guess it just hasn't been necessary.

We've "heard" Radiant Plate talk, but not quite that eloquently ("Shallan!"). And note, we've never "heard" Fifth Ideal Plate. Is the dead Plate that awakened for the Unoathed maybe a remnant of a Fifth Ideal bond?

That's an interesting point, and to me seems the most likely. I don't understand why they wouldn't be able to talk to their Radiant, but could to some random people, so I think it has to be something with the fifth ideal (or maybe something relating to the order of KR?)

I'm curious- did we see one of the Unoathed turn their Blade into a shield or otherwise show they had shape-shifting comparable to Radiant Blades? It's been a bit since I read WaT.

I don't think it was shown from what I have heard. Just a thing I am assuming would be the case for a living blade. The spren now has choice and agency again and will be able to change that...

At least how I read the weapons scenes it seems the spren has more control over what they become than the radiant. Syl seemed to enjoy changing weapon shapes in the fight over the shattered planes between Kal and Szeth.

For that reason alone I make the assumption that it is probable that they will be able to at some future point.

Although I should at least listen to the chapters where these scenes pop up. But I feel like changing shapes was more the sprens choice than the radiants and through the bond they simply learned what eachother wanted.

Perhaps some spren prefer to appear and be used in specific ways compared to others?

That is also why I assume the windspren from plate would still have extra mobility on their own as they are more alive now and capable of agency and action.

Adolin's plate is also from a Dustrbinger, as we've seen the order the plate comes from has some affect on its functions.

With the plate being directly connected to the Spiritual realm how quickly does it heal compared to living radiant plate?

Not the faintest idea, probably slower than stormlight healing of living plate but faster than stormlight healing of deadplate.
