Edgedancer he/him Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Yes the illusion can gather information, sorry got distracted by my Epic scholar self Neverthere herself is still sitting in MEE headquarters spacing out during the conversation. I just wouldn't even classify it as a PI though, Neverthere herself is still just as vulnerable as anyone else, invisibility is way better as a PI, so why should it be lower? :S Well it's just making me that much more eager for Firefight to come out It´s what I like to call a situational PI (completely my own definition and in no way canon). It makes a convenient assassination imposible (which I think is the definition of PI) not because she´s harder to kill but because of the situation it creates they can´t kill her in the first place. Having a set headquarters is actually pretty dangerous for her, simply because it allows others to know where to go and kill her. If no one knows where she is no one can assassinate her. Sure without something like Regalia´s water control she can´t attack but that´s another matter entierly. As for invisibility being better, maybe for being active but not in not getting you killed, which is elementary for a PI. To do anything you still have to go into a potentially dangerous situation. Step on a granade, dead! Get smelled by a dinosaur, dead! You get the idea. It's up to you who goes next, Edgedancer. I'm prepared to write a post with LW now, but I can wait if you'd like to write a Lucentia POV first. You go first then.

Any Epic can hide, that's not a PI, projection just allows gathering of information while still hiding, it doesn't actually help you not get killed in any way. The solution to the invisibility deaths is to not step on grenades or dinosaurs It's still way harder to assasinate someone who's invisible than it is someone who can astral project.

A prime invincibility is an ability that renders conventional methods of assassination useless, I believe. Neverthere would be difficult to track down, but she'd be as powerless as any human (or Backtrack) if someone burst into her room and shot her in the face. Regalia's similar, but she also has the ability to interact with her surrounds through her projections. (If the Coppermind is to be believed, at any rate.) She also has an exceptionally powerful offensive ability. With this being the case, she's a High Epic by sheer virtue of being utterly unstoppable--though it's debatable whether she actually possesses a prime invincibility. 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 Concratulations, you started reading a good book, meet my favourite sociopathic sword. Now, go and meet Lightsong. I have. Nightblood is rather…um…sociopathic is a good way to put it, but I love Lightsong so far. And I'm glad Sanderson has the whole book up on his website for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that I can read it and look like I'm doing homework. 2

How do you burst into the room of someone who´s whearabouts you don´t know? Then again she has to get groceries somehow.... how does Regalia keep her whereabouts secret? (No one is as powerless as Backtrack. ) So at which point do conventional methods of assassination do count as useless. Fortuity ultimately got killed by two people carrying guns, lots of improvisation and a car. Not directly conventional but far from actual, well, invincibility. Did I already told you guys that I love term ambiguity. Anyway, I´ll fold on this.

Taking all the events of the book in consideration, I would say Lightsong for me. You´re also doing art, politics, literature and accounting homework. Some of these have to be useful for a librarian. Mabe they just don´t want to risk you learning about their conspiracy by reading BS books. (Must supress annoying "Where are you now?" urge.) 1

It's mostly articles I have to read, but they're all dumb. And too long. I am starting to think there's some sort of conspiracy here, though I'm too busy reading Warbreaker to figure out what that conspiracy might be. (Just started chapter 9.) And, sadly, I can say it's not entirely fiction. The librarian at my high school was horrible. She once stood up in front of an entire library of students there to do their homework and crowed "The library is not the homework center!" Their crime? Printing more than one page. At an affluent high school that could certainly afford the ink for students to print multiple pages. (Didn't stop her from threatening to charge people a dollar per page.)

Just wait till you see a game of Tarachin and somewhere down the line will see your second game of it and you will be blown away. (I hope this was cryptic enough.) It´s true! (Did Cardinal work at the library of his school?)

He seems more like the type who would frequent his university library and verbally abuse the interns. Though I can see him and my high school librarian getting along quite well. Oh, jeez. I hope she didn't become an Epic too. (Though I'm somewhat tempted to Epic-i-fy her just to see what her powers might be. ) 2

Her powers should interact with glass/shoot lazers from her glasses and/or give her the power to create golems from bad romance novels. (Yes, these things more or less happen in the firt book alone.) 2

I'm trying to picture it and….the more I see it with her, the less sense it makes. She'd be more of the type to gain the power to, I don't know, emit one of those high-pitched wails that only teenagers can hear, render patrons unable to operate the printer, and freeze teenagers in place so they are forced to listen to her rants about their character flaws. (She had a very low opinion of teens.) Weakness: A teen reading and genuinely enjoying a classic piece of literature. (She was nearly pleasant the day I checked out The Count of Monte Cristo.) 3
Mailliw73 he/him Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 [quote name="Kobold King" post="195892" timestamp="1415403490" I don't think there's much demand for Cipher's abilities in The Dalles, save for when an interpreter is required with new visitors. Cipher is probably kept in as much comfort as the city can afford to keep her happy. You know, I'm beginning to wonder if there's some sort of Epic club located in the city, providing entertainment for bored Epics prohibited from using their powers. Okay, well, if we ever need her, she's there, ready to be used. That sounds like fun. That would make a lot of sense, actually. It could be staffed by semi-retired City Guard soldiers who hold the senior positions and train young or new Guards to work with Epics. The club could even be a required part of academy training. I like that idea a lot. :) In other news, I started Warbreaker. That prologue. O.O Yay! More Sanderson books for you! I'll probably garner a bit of hate for this but WB was actually one of my least favourite of Brandons novels, still awesome of course but it's currently rated below Elantris, Mistborn, Stomlight, Rithmatist and Steelheart for me. I'm with you Voidus. Not completely, but it isn't as good as some as the others to me. Especially the first time I read it, that time it was my least favorite Cosmere book. I read it again six months ago though, and I realized that it's better than I remembered. It's below Stormlight and Mistborn for me,but above Elantris and the YA books. I know I asked this already...but what are the two Chimerans Chi brought with him *sheepish grin*? I just can't seem to keep it in my memory banks You did, but that's okay. Argo, a bear with poisonous fangs and Kyrie, a wolf with hawk wings. Plus there's a few guards nearby who have the strength of gorillas or the powerful legs of a cougar.
Edgedancer he/him Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 (edited) Lightwards preferred focused, driven colleagues like Lucentia. TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted November 8, 2014 Author Posted November 8, 2014 Right, I forgot that detail. (Why would he do that?) Talking about forgetting, who of you remembers Candyflame coating parts of the museum with sugar? Because he wanted his dinosaurs on the ground, and he knew he could just raise them when they went splat. Never mind the trauma going splat would cause those poor dinosaurs. I remember, but I don't remember which parts, or how much she got. I do remember her caramelizing different plants, but not how many plants she got to. :/
Edgedancer he/him Posted November 8, 2014 Posted November 8, 2014 Just a question: Who is Quicksilver? Shorth version: Epic crime lord of the Dalles that is strong enough that it´s a wonder they still stand. Long version: Read the profile Fatebreaker wrote for him, in Epics of Oregon. :/ But...but... they could have used the diamond lift. Given that reviving them takes time it isn´t even efficient. No one stopped her, so she´s still working somewhere in the museum. I kinda hoped that Lightwards completly forgets about her and pops an artery in the morning, when he finds most of the place covered in sticky caramel.
