I've been wanting to get back into writing and I thought what better way to do that then to have people hold me to it?

Basically how this will work is I write a little excerpt surrounding whichever decision y'all choose.

I think decisions will be made though polls, but if enough people agree on an alternate idea, I'll write that instead.

Have no clue if people will engage with this but, here we go!

Spoiler

Aspen walked through the darkened, crumbling grounds of ruins he was, technically, not allowed in, lit by only the weak light of dusk. Not that anyone would truly mind his being here: these ruins are the long abandoned aftermath of a place no one cares to remember. Hidden deep within the forests of Themis, most of the site had already been absorbed by the strange plants that make up the fauna — most claim they move as if they have a mind when people aren’t looking.

This site was considered sacred to Chemia, though Aspen couldn’t see why. It was just a mass of decayed rock that vaguely resembled buildings.

So, he walked. He walked until he found a place that looked truly sacred. At the center of town, positioned so that all roads led to it (or would have led to it, if there had still been roads), there was a Sanctum. A great towering structure carved from dark rock, that seemed to glisten in the dying light.

Swirling patterns covered the outer walls that seemed to move if one did not look directly at them. Long gone windows left holes in the facade. The roof met in a sharp gable, with intricate designs depicting Chemia and the shadowed ones carved proudly in the pediment. The entire building stood as if in challenge against some unknown enemy. But, it had an aura that served to draw one in instead of scare away.

Aspen entered, as this place seemed to want him to do. He walked down the long hallway that was the building, weak light from a setting sun making it into a place where it was not allowed. The space was empty, carpets and decor long rotted away, beside for the three stone altars that stood proudly: one on the center wall, and one on each branching wall. Their offers had long rotted away, save for the single flickering candle that still somehow stood burning on the central altar.

Aspen approached, curious. Stepping up to the altar, he is filled with the sudden urge to touch the mysterious flame.

The flame is cold, impossibly so, and upon placing his hand over it, the room is filled with a bright flash, and he sensed two presences appear behind him.

Does he turn around?

Next part!

Spoiler

Aspen turns. Some may call it unwise, turning to face two unknown entities in a place sacred to the Chaosbringer. But, ever the adventurer, Aspen decides to turn and face whatever has decided to appear to him.

Before him, two figures made of shade stand — if you could call it standing, their forms fade off before it could form feet.

The one on the left has a purple-tinged smoke rolling off it in waves that fell to the floor as if impossibly heavy. The other, on the right, had an aura that seemed to absorb the light around it.

They stared at Aspen, or would have if they had eyes. Aspen stared ever, ever confident.

Slowly, in perfect sync, they extended hands to Aspen, palms facing up like they wanted him to take it.

Whose hand does he take?

Both. He takes them, and makes them hold hands with eachother.

Good to see y’all agree on something.

Good luck Aspen!

Spoiler

Aspen, with very little consideration, reaches out and grabs ahold of both figures hands.

Conflicting powers, great and ancient, rush through Aspen. He feels as if his body will rip apart, becoming another sacrifice upon this sacred ground.

Aspen doubles over in pain, still clutching the figures hands as they stare on with indifference.

A great light blazes behind his eyes and an infinite amount of worlds and possibilities flash before him. The flashes grow more and more frantic, lasting barely long enough for him to make sense of what he is seeing.

Aspen squeezes shut his eyes, trying to expel the pain ripping at his being. He tugs at his hands desperate to get away from the figures and whatever they’re doing to him.

The pain stops and the weight of the figures hands clutching his vanishes. Slowly, hesitantly, Aspen open his eyes.

He finds that he is not longer in the temple. Instead, he finds himself in a void. A dark place that absorbs all light. Aspen looks down, and suddenly the fear of falling into the strange abyss fills him, but the darkness remains solid beneath his feet.

From the darkness, he hears a myriad of overlapping voices. He cannot make sense of what they are saying, but he hears an immeasurable pain in their tone.

Aspen looks back in front of him and finds two doorways that were not there when he first opened his eyes.

The one to the left glows with a faint silver light that is seemingly swallowed by the dark. On the right, the door glows with a brilliant bronze light that seems to light up the void around it.

Which door does he enter?
