chongjasmine Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 I prefer to read fantasy series that are long, at least 5 books in the series, but the longer the better. Reason: I like to dwell in the worldbuilding of a fantasy series, and don't want it to end too soon. Trilogies are fine but they are too short for me to really enjoy the fantasy world of which they are built. As such, I like long series. You may recommend me any series, so long as it is 5 books long. So far, I only read a song of ice and fire and wheel of time, both of which I enjoy very much. But I am fine to any long series, so long as they are in the fantasy genre. I will prefer it not to be for children like the chronicles or Narnia or YA. I prefer adult series, though the characters don't have to be morally gray. I don't mind series with clear cut good and bad characters. Feel free to recommend your series and tell me why I should read it. Series can be ongoing (Not yet completed) like a song of ice and fire or completed like wheel of time. I prefer completed series to ongoing ones, although I am fine with either. Thanks for your recommendations! Crosspost to more communities

Please see Reading Recommendations. Series should list number of books and if the series is complete or ongoing. Straight Fantasy only? Or including Urban Fantasy, Sci Fan, and other adjacent categories? Threshold for genre overlap? (for example, the In Death Series - J. D. Robb is on Book 60 - averaging 300-ish pages per book - but is it 1 part Urban Sci-Fan, 1 part Crime Thriller and 1 part Romance - Law and Order set in 2060s with fantasy elements) How about formats? (e. g. Deathworlders is Sci Fan Web Serial - so it is over 1 million words, but not separated by "books" and can be read online or downloaded as ePub ( both free) and spawned a shared universe of other free fiction in a shared universe. If the linked list does not help, please let us know any additional considerations.

First of the Tide He/him Posted December 3, 2025 Posted December 3, 2025 Discworld By Terry Pratchett is Amazing and has loads of world building! My favorite is Guards! Guards!
+Invocation Posted December 4, 2025 Posted December 4, 2025 I haven't made a Shard post in a while but I'm going to take this chance to plug the Cradle series by Will Wight. 12 books + an epilogue-like set of short stories set partially during the 12th book's timeline and partially afterwards. 1
