What colors have we decided on for our shards?
I'm thinking endowment is either mother-of-pearl opal-like OR orange.

Cultivation is GREEN

I’d think Endowment’d be opalescent-like, yeah, from Breaths and the Tears of Edgli.

I find myself hard pressed to decide on many of the others, beyond standard color association, I guess. (Like, Invention and Reason relate to intelligence, and intelligence relates to blue. Too uninspired an association to be making without due consideration, I think. Just going with personal preferences might make a nice array, which’d be neat.)

Who knows, maybe the colours for all Shards were simply just the Vessel's preferences?

I'd make Invention orange and reason purple, because we have way to much blue already.

That’s good with me. , for those of you in TLT.

As for astronomy, I think Invention (not Layke - this will be a slightly later development) will go all out with the orbital mechanics and make something ridiculous, like multiple binary planets in a co-orbital.

Oh shard vessel conflict? We love to see it.

I'll probably make my own wacky species too.

Yeah. My impression of Invention is much more over-the-top than Layke, who abides by “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and wants backup plans in case something goes wrong.
Ooh, fun! More speculative biology… (honestly, I’m probably doing the same)

For Non-Metagamers:

Spoiler

I am going to salvage Yolen, and make Yolen's Ruins a new Planetary system off of a lone star floating in the abyss.

Then, I am going to spend the rest of the time after setting up my MoIs by reasearching a way to mold the vessel and the shard together interchangably, end up dying in the process, giving my shard to the chosen one in the New Yolen System (NYS).

Then, New Cultivation will elevate the NYS to an amazing technological standpoint, then be killed by another shardholder (some sort of New Odium stuff), get absorbed by them, but little do they know, the original experiment WORKED and that causes the Shard of Cultivation in the new multi-shard to rebel against the current shardholder, now having succesfully become Immune to death as a shard and then IDK after that.

Oh I was assuming you where going to merge with other shards.

You'll have to find a lone star first. And preferably a G-Type one too, although F won't be too bad, your plants will just have to be different colours. K might be fine too, I don't know, but but there is a risk of tidal locking, guaranteed with an M. Unless you want that, of course.

Same as canon no?

You could probably modulate the color with a particle ring.

Yeah but there's a ton of shards we dint know.

I’d always pictured Endowment and Valor as different shades of orange

Reason… dark blue maybe?

uhhh

is it bad to say idk what those are?

idk tidal locking would be cool ig

Alright, watched some Artifexian videos, did some research, generated some numbers...

@Argenti, you found a K-Type star. Not exactly something that can become a Supergiant.

It has a mass of 0.72 Suns and a luminosity of about 0.317 Suns. It's got a main sequence lifespan of roughly 23 billion years before it becomes a red giant and then a white dwarf. Now, the age of the universe is almost 14 billion years (I know it's not the Cosmere, but we don't know how old the Cosmere is), so it doesn't really matter when this star was born because it isn't blowing up anytime soon.

Unless, of course, you change that.

I'm going to worry about planets later, I need to do more research for that. Hopefully tomorrow. I did some cursory research, it seems it will be a challenge finding a planets per star distribution graph.

Meh. Not good enough. I'll just go to taldain system. There's a blue supergiant there.

Now, we need to decide whether we give Taldain the characteristics it should have, like extreme winds and sub-zero darkside temperatures, stuff like that.

Also, are we going to say that humans already exist on Taldain? Darkside tech levels suggest so, but that may be acceleration from Bavadin.

I don't think so. It's still invested. At least no sub zero temps on darkside. The winds would be cool.

Spoiler

Not that it really matters im blowing it up.

I found a sci-fi worldbuilding blog one time with some habitable tidal locking configurations - though none were binary. I can look for it again. *reads spoiler* …if it’s needed.

There's a YT channel that deals with life around a red dwarf...

Come to think of it, how exactly is Taldain tidally locked? For it to still have mild temperatures it would have to be very far from the super giant. The white dwarf isn't bombarding it either. How is Taldain tidally locked?
