Name: Oxy

Info: An incredibly powerful shape-shifter that is one of the primal forces of the universe. One of the main leaders of chaos, he is the god-like being known as Oxymoron. He in him self is a contradiction. He is the most sane, most suicidal, most unhinged, most stable, most absolutely crazy person ever. He is the smartest dummy, the brightest darkness, less powerful than Dazh, and yet he might be able to beat him in a fight. He can make anyone powerful or useless, and yet cannot affect anything except himself. he is so contradictory that you shouldn't trust anything you hear about him. In fact, he doesn't have any contradictions at all. he is himself and yet he is also you. Everytime you look at him he is different, and yet every time he is exactly the same. (Yes you are supposed to be confused about him. But you are also supposed to know everything about him. he doesn't understand himself either! And yet he is in complete understanding of how he works.) He is knowledgeable yert knows nothing.

Do I need permission to join, and also, does this break any predetermined lore?

Ya don’t need permission to join - and lore is… it’s a thing, but it very difficult to break.

Pretty much just think about what your character means for the world 🤷‍♂️

Just be aware the Hungering Dark will show up soon or later.

Okay guys, it's been a while, but I'm going to try to update everything sometime today!

(also, I'm thinking of doing something to track plot, since so many people keep asking to join the RP, but I might need some help for that, so anyone who wants to help me put together a comprehensive plot summary, sign up!)

That's great!

Here's some more information about Sigismund and his abilities.

Spoiler

Sigismund's clock dictates his lifespan. He can increase his lifespan to a maximum of 100 years, and do this infinitely, which is what makes him functionally immortal. So long as his clock is still going, he can't die. He also has the ability to lower his lifespan, but doing so makes him "skip" forward in time. For example, if his clock showed 97 years, and he changed it to 95 years, he would skip two years into the future. He cannot travel back in time, only forward. Because of this, even though he was technically born 10,000 years ago, he's skipped through the majority of those millennia. He uses his skipping ability to great effect, often skipping forward one second, two seconds, a minute, or an hour, whether it be to avoid a sword-strike (he can't die but he can still be injured; indeed, he has been beheaded a couple times, and he really did not enjoy it), or to wait for a dentist appointment. He has not yet needed to use his skipping ability because he hasn't been in real danger nor has he felt the need to skip ahead in order to get around waiting.

Despite being immortal, Sigismund has developed a good amount of phobias over the years. He hates being alone because if anything were to happen to him that would affect his ability to use his clock, such as getting buried in a landslide and losing the use of his hands, he would have to sit there for potentially decades while waiting for the end to come. He also hates viruses because they are the only things that can kill him regardless of what his clock says. There are definitely a few more, but those are the main two.

yes please. I have no idea what I'm gonna do about oxymoron. Apparently he's a primal so I'm gonna role with that and see where that gets me. I recommend a Doc, and also a blog that you routinely update to reflect the doc. That way you have a easy access blog link and a doc that anyone can contribute with. Maybe post the link on the og post.

Okay. Hold on. I think I have an idea for how the Primals will work.

Spoiler

The Primals. The Primals are aincient beings that predate the web itself. When the universe began, the primals were still merely forces of nature with rudmentary intellegince. Eventually, looking throught the web, the discovered something. Life. They were intriuged. It started with a little cell on a random world in the web, and these primals LOVED it. Before this, the Primals were just there. No memory of anything before they poped into existence, they were confused. They all began at the begining of the universe. they still hang out their regularly, because there was no time, and therefore no paradoxes. Then, a primal named Oxymoron discovered they could time travel. This was a wonderful discovery. The only way out of the begining of the universe is time travel. They, like newborn children discovering the world, wanted to see everything. They saw interplanetary wars, the cloud discovering the Web, and they also saw the end of the universe. They all ran from it when they saw it. They quickly bonded together to fix this problem. The more and more they explored, the more smart and intellegent they became. This had all started when they saw life. Life made them think. the begining let them plot. The more intellegent they became, the more they realized that they were devoloping personalities. Some became living contradictions, some wanted only Order and Strucuture. Some wanted Kindness. Some wanted Death. Eventually, they discovered a group of people at the end of time itself. These people wern't all that special. They had seen these groups of people trying to fight back against oppression or danger to many times. It happens everywhere, constantly. The only reason these heroes were special wa because of how close they were to the end of time. All of the primals had now created bodies for themselves instinctively. They started to realize that these heroes looked exactly like them. Right at the end of the world, all of the heroes sacrificed their lives. After this, the primals split up. Half of them tried to go past the end of the universe, the other half past the begining. After this, they resolved to meet back in the middle, no matter what happened. The half that went past the begining, apeared at the end. the half that went past the end, apeared at the begining. Then, they realized that they were the group of heroes. They then fractured. The group of primals would still welcome each other if seen, but they parted ways. They could affect the timeline. So each and every one of them decided to to try and stop it. They noticed that there were 'bubbles' of time in which the could only affect if within the bubble. Each primal scoured their own bubble.

Oxymoron:

Spoiler

Oxy was one of the more confusing Primals. A discription of him found reads:

One of the main leaders of chaos, he is the god-like being known as Oxymoron. He in him self is a contradiction. He is the most sane, most suicidal, most unhinged, most stable, most absolutely crazy person ever. He is the smartest dummy, the brightest darkness, less powerful than Dazh, and yet he might be able to beat him in a fight. (Yes you are supposed to be confused about him. But you are also supposed to know everything about him. he doesn't understand himself either! And yet he is in complete understanding of how he works.) He is knowledgeable yert knows nothing.

Of course, he was often sane and could form coherent sentences. He just often does what is not expected. Strange things kept happening around him in his bubble. So he investigated. He then discovered a party of heroes. They were in one of the worlds fighting for it's survival. They gave him an eerie sense of Deija Vu. He then realized that they looked almost identical to the party of heroes at the end of the world, and his friends. He had to investigate, to intervene! But he didn't. He watched. And he kept a close eye on the one who looked exactly like himself. He, the god of contradictions, was the perfect one to create a paradox. The team at the end of the world had time-travel powers. This was not a result of becoming a god. Those time-travel powers had to come from somewhere. The only beings in the entire Web with time-travel powers were the Primals and the team of heroes. He then decided to intervene, to judge them up close. He couldn't move through time in bubble like he could other places. The bubble started with the team of heroes forming, and he could only move backwards in time in this bubble. Outside of the bubble, he could move past it, but he couldn't enter it backwards. If this team of heroes succeded, which he planned to help them do, he would give them a gift. And so, he intervened and encountered his doppleganger.

I will update this with some more info once I get someone's permission for something. :) Also, could no one else do anything with primals? I have a plan for them.

Okay... I will need the permission of the others to approve all this, though.

Also, right now, the Cloud isn't trying to destroy everything, just this planet. So the "end of time" you reference could still be a ways away.

Yeah. The point kind of is the end of time is trying to be stopped, and the timeline is really long. So what the primals perceive as close to the end of time would probably still be thousands of millennia away. Or longer.

Here we can put together all of the worldbuilding for the "Cuz I'm Bored" RP, since it's clearly beginning to get a little confusing. First off: Link to the RP

https://www.17thshard.com/forums/topic/199448-cuz-im-bored-a-chaoticeverything-rp/#comments

There, now that that's done, we can get started. I'm going to separate this into three sections: Worldbuilding, Factions, and Characters, spoilered for size. I searched the RP for everything I could find, but maybe I missed something or someone has something to add, so feel free to suggest an addition in the comments and I'll add it to the list.

Worldbuilding:

The Planet

  Reveal hidden contents

The RP takes place in a world known as Açila. Açila is a medium sized planet home to a variety of species, including a thriving human population and local deities. Society in Aćila is approximately medieval in terms of development.

Humans in Açila worship the Light Beyond.

Locations:

The Dusklands

  Reveal hidden contents

The Dusklands are a region in Açila consisting of a giant basin. The basin, relatively flat, is littered with plains, rivers, forests and human settlements. The Dusklands get their name from a layer of fog that covers the entire basin, protecting it from some of the suns light. For this reason, the Dusklands have developed their own unique flora and fauna. Large swathes of the land are used for agriculture.

There exists a large tunnel and cave system underneath the Dusklands that is populated by beasts.

There is currently a conflict taking place in the Dusklands.

Hav'Lon

  Reveal hidden contents

At some recent point in history, a Northern Campaign took place in Hav'Lon. It is populated by tribes.

The Web and the Framework

  Reveal hidden contents

The Web

  Reveal hidden contents

The Web is the very fabric of reality. Its a fifth dimension which holds everything else together. Because of the way it permeates everything, changes made to the Web have the potential to create massive effects in the physical world. Most mortal creatures live alongside the Web, unaware of its existence. Gods and deities manipulate the Web, giving them their immense abilities. And then there are certain beings and objects whose very existence is intertwined with the Web.

The Framework

  Reveal hidden contents

As defined by the Cloud (more on them later), the Framework is an ideal blueprint for how the Web should look to maintain stability.

Viruses

  Reveal hidden contents

Viruses are unnatural beings that, in large numbers, have great potential to alter the Web and, by extension, pose a great threat to the Framework. Like agents of the Cloud, they are Web-reliant beings, and are made of the same substance as Cloud agents but iridescent and shiny instead of void-black. When a population of viruses begins to appear on a world, it is known as an infestation.

Some viruses take on a feline-like form.

Viruses use a variety of calls and vibrations to communicate, including calls for reinforcement, retreat, identifying a target, and mercy.

When a large concentration of viruses collects in an area, it creates a Rift. A Rift appears as a gash in reality. It pierces through and connects the physical world and the Web, and if left unchecked, slowly grows large enough that the Web begins to "leak" out of it into the physical world. When that happens, both the physical world and the Web are altered severely. In the physical realm, laws of physics are broken, and reality comes apart as the leak expands to envelop the whole world, destroying everything and replacing it with an endless well of chaos and limbo.

Factions:

The Cloud

  Reveal hidden contents

The Cloud is a highly developed civilization / organization that exists primarily on the Web. They consider themselves to be the protectors of the Framework, and are active in many worlds.

How they work:

  Reveal hidden contents

All agents of the Cloud are interconnected, something like a hive mind. They are able to communicate through messages transmitted directly through the Web, track each other's locations, and share databases, although each agent has separate consciousness.

Agents of the Cloud are able to instantly manifest themselves wherever the Cloud has a presence. These manifestations can interact with matter, but are impossible to damage.

Each agent of the Cloud is represented by a unit number, like 209845.

Agents that are not compliant with the Cloud can be factory reset.

Types of Agents:

Antivirus

  Reveal hidden contents

One of the most basic types of agents of the Cloud, 209845 is an Antivirus. The Antivirus corps are the foot soldiers of the Cloud; they are equipped with special zapping tools that allow them to delete viruses. They are deployed to take care of viruses and prevent their population from growing too much while the rebooting process is being completed.

Antiviruses have standard level consciousness.

Instant Kill Mode

All Cloud antiviruses have a hidden function called Instant Kill Mode. Instant Kill Mode activates itself when an antivirus is exposed to a threat, most commonly a virus, and its coming is difficult to resist. When in Instant Kill Mode, antiviruses have less control over their actions, as if something is blinding them. They have only a single drive; to kill. This can lead them to mistake friends for foes.

Ambassador

  Reveal hidden contents

A Cloud Ambassador is often deployed when dealing with powerful beings that could pose a threat to Cloud operations. Ambassadors are able to rewrite the Web in an area to force beings into compliance with the Cloud through a combination of psychological and physical pressure that can destroy a being's psyche.

Ambassadors have high level consciousness.

Probes

  Reveal hidden contents

Cloud probes are very simple agents with limited function. When released into a world, probes will immediately spread out and create a basic map of the physical composition of the world for the Cloud to use.

Probes have low level consciousness.

The Rebooting Process:

According to Section 4.2 of the Cloud core handbook: Rebooting

"When a world reaches the threshold for a virus infestation, it must be rebooted to prevent the infection from spreading to other worlds. Rebooting takes place in three main stages:"

Stage 1: Arrival

  Reveal hidden contents

”In the first stage, Arrival, the Cloud lands on the world through a wave of probes. Once the probes are down and have identified an optimal location, the rest of the Cloud can be transmitted."

Stage 2: Mapping

  Reveal hidden contents

”In the second stage, Mapping, the Cloud takes the form of a large red storm. This is the longest stage; for the last week, the storm releases pulses through the Web that seem to turn the world monochrome. These pulses map the Web of the world to prepare for the third and final step."

Stage 3: Execution

  Reveal hidden contents

”In the third step, Execution, the Cloud releases one final, powerful pulse that reshapes the entire world. The world is reset to its most basic form, destroy in all life present, including viruses. This is the only way to make sure the infection doesn’t spread.”

Additional consequences

  Reveal hidden contents

During the rebooting process, the Cloud begins to remove its presence from the Web of the world. This can cause glitches in agents of the Cloud positioned in that world, and its the reason for all of 209845's glitches at the start.

The Immortals

  Reveal hidden contents

The Immortals are a type of immortal deity that exists on multiple worlds, with light related abilities. They have a variety of magical abilities, and can somehow be cast down to the mortal world in comets.

The Family

  Reveal hidden contents

The Family are a group of local deities in Açila.

Stel'elt - Star Elves

  Reveal hidden contents

The Star Elves or Stel'Elt, are by far the most numerous and least powerful, at least individually. They reign in a divine bureaucracy and have a lesser sort of immortality. They can be wounded and permanently killed, although a new Stel’Elt will spring up to take its place.

  • Star elves are largely ferrous in nature, naturally wearing metallic suits of armor. With some effort, they can take on a more human shape, typically becoming semi-androgenous pale humanoids with pointed ears, long, dark hair, and faintly glowing veins.
  • Beyond this, they have limited shape-shifting powers. They can change the color and shape of their armor but cannot, for example, take the form of an animal.
  • Star elves have the ability to make various weapons from their inner light, which, along with their nigh-indubitable armor, makes the Stel'Elt fine warriors.
  • They dwell in the Radiant City, also known as the Vault. This subspace takes up the same magical areas as the night sky, and any magical disruptions (such as traveling through the night sky) affect it as well.
  • There are only as many as stars in the sky.

They claim to have held domain over the stars in this universe for 4864 years, 8 months, 15 days, 13 hours, 37 minutes, and 43 seconds, as of the start of the RP. In their own words, they are "officers that track down rogues who passed through our subspace without registration."

The stel'elt appear to require deities passing through their airspace to fill out some form of registration forms with one's essence and signature. Travel visas also work.

Mal’Elt - Moon Elves

  Reveal hidden contents

The Moon Elves, or Mal’Elt, come in three distinct tribes, Red, Blue, and Green, one for each moon. Mal’Elt are bestial in nature, with each tribe having a true form based on a specific mammal group. The Moon elves are also proficient shapeshifters, able to change between their animal forms, elf forms, and everything in between at will. Each Mal’Elt is varied in its exact powers; there’s only one for every phase of the three moons.

The Red Elves or Rue’Elt are based on Ungulates

  • The Full Moon: The Ox
  • The Waning Gibbous: The Horse
  • First Quarter: The Goat
  • Waning Crescent: The Mouse Deer
  • New Moon: The Stag
  • Waxing Crescent: The Pronghorn
  • Third Quarter: The Hog
  • Waxing Gibbous: The Rhino

The Blue Eves or Bes’Elt are based on Canines.

  • The Full Moon: The Dog
  • The Waning Gibbous: The Coyote
  • First Quarter: The Racoon Dog
  • Waning Crescent: The Jackal
  • New Moon: The Wolf
  • Waxing Crescent: The Wild Dog
  • Third Quarter: The Fox
  • Waxing Gibbous: The Dhole

The Green Elves or Gres’Elt are based on Felines

  • The Full Moon: The Tiger
  • The Waning Gibbous: The Jaguar
  • First Quarter: The Cat
  • Waning Crescent: The Lynx
  • New Moon: The Leopard
  • Waxing Crescent: The Cheetah
  • Third Quarter: The Ocelot
  • Waxing Gibbous: The Lion

Saz’Elt - Dazh - The Sun Elf

  Reveal hidden contents

The Sun Elves, or more correctly, Sun Elf, also known as Saz’elt, are composed of one individual of immense power known by many names; Dazh, Sol, the Sun, and the Howling God.

  • Dazh is the single strongest god in the system, and it’s not even close. All the stars and moons in tandem couldn’t harm him. He’s older than the star elves’ control of the sky and trumps them in all things.
  • Dazh’s powers are vast and complex, able to conjure visions, stop time, blind or bind and heal.
  • Once Dazh was cruel and was cast down when his power rebelled against him. He learned then, and no longer scorches the earth dry.

The Makers / Helpers

  Reveal hidden contents

The Makers / Helpers belong to some organization conducting mysterious tests on what appear to be human test subjects in the Dusklands.

The Makers are the headrunners of the operation and are the only ones that come into contact with the test subjects.

The Helpers are more numerous and aid the Makers in their operations, but cannot touch the subjects.

The Primals

  Reveal hidden contents

The Primals are fundamental forces of the universe, immensely powerful god-like beings that rarely get involved in mortal affairs.

Oxymoron

  Reveal hidden contents

The Hungering Dark (*ominous music plays*)

Characters:

209845

  Reveal hidden contents

209845 is an antivirus of the Cloud.

Abilities:

Antivirus abilities.

History:

It's memories are shady, and as far as it knows, this is its first mission.

209845's primary directive reads:

"Directive #1: This world has fallen to viruses. To ensure the safety of the Framework, entire system must be rebooted. Begin by deleting all viruses"

Plot relevance so far:

When it joined the group, it believed Lati to be a virus but was later disproven. The unusual party intrigued it, and so it chose to continue traveling with them, justifying its behavior with the excuse that it was in pursuit of a potential virus. The more time it spent with the group, the more amazed 209845 grew of the intricacies of mortal nature, their ability to empathize and form bonds. 209845 guided the group to the Dusklands, where upon sunrise, it witnessed a magnificent demonstration of natural beauty that it had never thought possible. This was a key turning point.

When conversing with the Sun, 209845 made a decision; the beauty in this world was worth saving. With the help of the Sun, it blinded its bond with the Cloud, and now seeks to find a way to achieve its new purpose.

Jidah Ka Orum

  Reveal hidden contents

Jidah Ka Orum is an Immortal that was somehow cast down and turned mortal

Abilities:

Can heal, summon a sword, create some form of magical barrier.

History:

Was traveling to between worlds when she was suddenly struck down to the mortal realm. Jidah landed on Açila wearing a simple but luxurious white dress.

Plot relevance so far:

After landing in a comet, Jidah quickly made a bond with Owen, and together they set out to search for a temple in the Dusklands that would help her regain her immortality. When the fox arrived, the two bonded as deities and he helped her arrange a meeting with the Sun. In the meeting, the Sun revealed to Jidah that her mortality was some sort of punishment, and she must learn what she did wrong to fix it. Upon exiting the vision, Jidah suffers something of a mental breakdown, but endures.

Lati is a small, childish disembodied voice that raises more questions than answers.

History:

Unknown. Anything she touches begins to dissolve, including human flesh and virus pixel-flesh, and she appears to have an uncanny ability to read thoughts.

Plot relevance so far:

Lati was proclaimed mortal by someone (I think it was Jidah, not 100% sure though) and quickly made friends with Réva. She attached quickly to the group and has followed them around since then.

Number 17

  Reveal hidden contents

Number 17 is a genderless, seemingly human escaped test subject of the Makers / Helpers.

History:

Claims to have been created for the purpose of testing. Indeed, extensive tests were conducted on them by the Makers / Helpers on "every conceivable metric", and they were made to believe it was all what they deserved. Has clearly suffered severe trauma. At some point in the recent past, they escaped from their captors and fled into the woods, where they ran into the party.

Plot relevance so far:

Number 17 has just joined the party and has established a bond with Réva.

Owen

  Reveal hidden contents

Owen is a human native to Açila.

History:

Owen carries his father's old sword, taken from the tribes of Hav'Lon during the Northern Campaign. It is engraved with ancient runes. He considers himself a consistent failure and works (or at least did work) as a librarian's assistant at a library, which he almost burned down a couple times.

Plot relevance so far:

Owen is on some sort of quest. He agreed with Jidah to help her find a temple in the Dusklands.

Réva

  Reveal hidden contents

Réva is a mysterious worldhopper woman.

Backstory:

Really long. This is best explained by @Spark of Hope

Plot relevance so far:

Réva showed up randomly and is just going along with the flow of things. She bonded quickly with Lati, and upon learning of the rebooting, searched for a way to get her and Lati offworld.

Rhyme

  Reveal hidden contents

Rhyme (the name she uses, as her true name has been forgotten) is a mysterious overly optimistic woman.

Backstory:

Rhyme struggles to remember much, including her true name. She lives by the rules of the "Game".

Plot relevance so far:

Rhyme bumped into the group as they were descending into the Dusklands and bonded with Réva and Lati. She has accompanied the group since then.

Sigismund

  Reveal hidden contents

Sigismund is an wizard whose life is somehow inexplicably intertwined to a clock. He can rewind the clock to be functionally immortal.

Abilities:

Backstory:

Unknown.

Plot relevance so far:

Sigismund magically popped into the air while the group was descending to the Dusklands and was disappointed to find he was still on Açila. He has travelled with the party since then.

Spirit

  Hide contents

Spirit is a mysterious figure that seems to work for Spirit of Wrath. He wants to destroy evil, and close the thread for some reason.

Abilities:

Can summon weapons made of light, release bursts of energy that harm viruses.

Backstory:

Unknown.

Plot relevance so far:

Met up with 209845 and Rhyme in the temple after Jidah fell unconscious.

Spirit of Wrath

  Hide contents

Spirit of Wrath is... something.

Backstory:

Has some relationship with Réva.

Plot relevance so far:

I think he's traveling with the group?

The Fox

  Reveal hidden contents

The Fox is a member of the Family and a trickster.

Backstory:

Unknown.

Plot relevance so far:

The Fox joined the party as they were descending to the Dusklands and quickly bonded with Jidah, granting her an audience before the Sun. The Fox is still traveling with the party.

Transient

  Reveal hidden contents

Transient is a mysterious figure searching for people.

Abilities:

Can summon a sword. Maybe also a divine being?

History:

Unknown.

Plot relevance so far:

Transient somehow heard the conflict taking place between the Maker and 209845 in the tunnels and met the group after rushing down to investigate.

The Tormentor?

Okay, that's the gist of it, I think. Whew, that was a lot. Now for the pings:

I need your help to complete this. Any edits you want to make can go in the comments and I will make them!

Okokok

Spirit commands the powers of the Twins - Light, dark, creation, destruction.

He is an embodiment of Chaos.

Wrath commands the powers of the Spirits - Heat, cold, wind, emotion, illusion, telepathy.

He is also an embodiment of chaos.

Okay. Hold on. I think I have an idea for how the Primals will work.

Oxymoron:

  Hide contents

Oxy was one of the more confusing Primals. A discription of him found reads:

One of the main leaders of chaos, he is the god-like being known as Oxymoron. He in him self is a contradiction. He is the most sane, most suicidal, most unhinged, most stable, most absolutely crazy person ever. He is the smartest dummy, the brightest darkness, less powerful than Dazh, and yet he might be able to beat him in a fight.

YOU STILL HAVENT ADDED THIS @Hoid Slayer!

Your ultimate guide to anything Cuz I'm Bored related. First off: Link to the actual RP 👇

https://www.17thshard.com/forums/topic/199448-cuz-im-bored-a-chaoticeverything-rp/#comments

There, now that that's done, we can get started. I'm going to separate this into five sections: World, Factions, Characters, Plot, and Current State, spoilered for size. I searched the RP for everything I could find, but maybe I missed something or someone has something to add, so feel free to suggest an addition in the comments and I'll add it to the list.

World:

  Reveal hidden contents

Açila

  Reveal hidden contents

Most of the RP has taken place in a world known as Açila.

There exists a large tunnel and cave system underneath the Dusklands. The caverns were once home to an ancient civilization; today, they are largely abandoned, and were recently occupied by a colony of viruses.

There is currently a Great War taking place in the Dusklands, unrelated to the Cloud's activities, that makes travel hazardous.

Hav'Lon

  Reveal hidden contents

At some recent point in history, a Northern Campaign took place in Hav'Lon. It is populated by tribes.

The Pocket

  Reveal hidden contents

The homeworld of the Immortals / Sennights / Stars; where Jidah is from, and where the party travels to find here following the Battle of the Rift.

Getting into the Pocket requires passing through Custom, and relinquishing most magical powers.

The Immortals / Sennights seem to be governed by the Stars, probably local deities?

The world was founded by a very careful group of Stars who wove the Pocket from the souls of humans who died in an apocalypse that destroyed their previous world.

The Web and the Framework

  Reveal hidden contents

The Web

  Reveal hidden contents

The Web is the very fabric of reality. Its a parallel/fifth dimension which holds everything else together, yet exists separate from it.

Little is known of the nature or origin of the Web.

When a large concentration (colony) of viruses collects in an area, a Rift forms. A Rift appears as a gash in reality. It unnaturally pierces through and connects the physical world and the Web, and if left unchecked, slowly grows large enough that the Web begins to "leak" through it into the physical world. When that happens, both the physical world and the Web are altered severely. In the physical realm, laws of physics are broken, and reality comes apart as the leak expands to envelop the whole world, destroying everything and replacing it with an endless well of chaos and limbo.

Little is known about the nature or creation of viruses.

Factions:

  Reveal hidden contents

The Cloud

  Reveal hidden contents

The Cloud is a highly developed civilization / organization whose existence is intertwined with the Web. They use it for transportation, communication, and more. They consider themselves to be the protectors of the Framework, and are active across the known worlds.

Little is known of the origin of the Cloud, although it supposedly operates mainly out of a Homeworld.

Cloud agents are made of a sort of void-flesh. Not really physical, it's like an occasionally glitching shadow of darkness.

How they work:

  Reveal hidden contents

All agents of the Cloud are interconnected, something like a hive mind. They are able to communicate through messages transmitted directly through the Web, track each other's locations, and share databases, although each agent has a separate consciousness, with capacities tailored to their function.

Command Structure:

  Reveal hidden contents

(Each type of Cloud agent described in this section is further elaborated upon later)

The Cloud is led by the Singularity, agent 1. The Singularity exists physically in the Cloud Homeworld, the location of which is unknown.

Below the Singularity are the Motherboards. More commonly referred to as Mothers, they carry out the will of the Cloud on individual worlds. There are nine of them; agents 2-10.

Under the guidance of the Mothers, Cloud Megaminds are used to organize individual projects with their own degree of autonomy.

Below the Megaminds, there is no solid structure of command; instead, agents such as Antiviruses, Probes, and even Ambassadors simply carry out the will of the agents above them.

Cloud Command is a general term for the operatives that agents receive their mandates from.

Types of Agents:

The Cloud agents described in this section are far from a complete list of all the agents in the Cloud's arsenal. Rather, it only includes the most important, including ones the party has encountered.

Singularity

  Reveal hidden contents

Agent 1. The leader of the Cloud, the Singularity is among the most cognitively advanced beings in all the known worlds. It physically resides in the Cloud homeworld, the location of which is unknown.

Motherboard

  Reveal hidden contents

More commonly known as Mothers, Motherboards (agents 2-9) have highly advanced consciousnesses and guide the will of the Cloud on individual worlds.

They normally reside physically in the Storms the Cloud forms on the worlds where it establishes a presence.

Megamind

  Reveal hidden contents

A step down from Mothers, Megaminds are the highest ranking mobile Cloud agents, carrying out individual missions.

A Megamind was sent

An Ambassador typically takes on the physical form of a large blob made from void-flesh, with smoky tendrils that can extend to reach their target. They move very slowly.

The Immortals / Sennights / Stars

  Reveal hidden contents

The Immortals / Sennights are a highly advanced, isolationist society that exists in the Pocket, a highly defended world unmapped by the Cloud.

The Primals are universal power incarnate. Legends say they came from a previous reality, where present at the creation of this one and will likely be present at its end.

In terms of raw power, Primals are almost undoubtedly the most potent beings in the known worlds. However, their mental and cognitive capacities are not designed for their power, and so they are only able to access a fraction of it at a time. Additionally, mental tolls of time make them prone to bouts of insanity and their power, inconsistent.

Members include Oxymoron, Latent, and Lawful (presumed diseased).

The Hungering Dark (*ominous music plays*)

Characters:

209845 / Ver

  Reveal hidden contents

"Ver took one last look at his friends, then turned back towards where the Cloud ranks had been. He had trusted them. He had giving them his undying loyalty. And they had been wrong. But now, he had a new family. A new people. He had seen beauty in the world, and knew it must be defended. And he would never look back again." - Page 100

209845 / Ver is an Antivirus of the Cloud. Previously a working agent of the Cloud, has since abandoned his tasks.

209845's primary directive reads:

"Directive #1: This world has fallen to viruses. To ensure the safety of the Framework, entire system must be rebooted. Begin by deleting all viruses"

Abilities:

  Reveal hidden contents

Antivirus abilities. Include remote communication with Cloud Command (although that function is currently blocked by a barrier installed by Dazh), access to the Antivirus Cloud handbook and large portions of Cloud databases, zappers that delete viruses, placing cookies, and Instant Kill Mode.

Has also recently gained the ability to communicate with and thus control viruses, even being able to lead them into battle.

209845's first memories are of standing in a forest on Açila, receiving a command to investigate an anomaly on a hill. It followed the instructions to find the fledgling party. When it joined the group, it glitched all the time, and for a short while believed Lati to be a virus but was later disproven. 209845 guided the group to the Dusklands, where upon sunrise, it witness a magnificent demonstration of natural beauty that it had never thought possible.

When conversing with Dazh, 209845 made a decision; the beauty in this world was worth saving. With the help of the Sun, it blinded its bond with the Cloud; the barrier set in by Dazh blocks its ability to communicate with Cloud Command, also preventing the Cloud from being able to track its location and shut it off.

After the group was teleported away, 209845 forced the Fox to lead them to a safe place, and then guided the party through the tunnels until their encounter with the viruses. In the combat, 209845 was forced into Instant Kill Mode, and fought to protect its companions. However, it got consumed by its bloodlust, and when the last viruses were massacred despite their pleas for mercy, it turned to other prey. 209845 tried to attack Réva before being snapped out of it by Jidah. The pair got into a huge fight, leading to the group's partition.

Following the breakup, 209845 was crushed, feeling pain for the first time. It led Owen, Réva, 17 Rhyme into an ancient temple site to stay safe while it went looking for the others. It found them, along with a mysterious figure claiming to be 17's Maker and wielding unnatural powers. Realizing that it could not defeat the Maker alone, 209845 summoned the viruses in the caverns to combat utilizing rhythms it had only heard shortly before yet instinctively understood. Eventually, unable to defeat the Maker and alarmed by the noise of the fight, 209845 cut its losses and led the party, minus Rhyme and Sigismund, back to the giant Virus Chamber in the hopes of hiding from the Cloud.

In the chamber, it connected Jidah to the energy of the Rift, and led the party to a ledge where they could hide. They were interrupted, however, by the arrival of the Cloud, who were initiating a scan of the chamber. To hide itself, 209845 temporarily deactivated, and when it woke back up and regained its senses, it was too late; the party, having recently met Elan, have disturbed the Barrier set up by the Cloud, and agents have already been sent to investigate.

209845, pretending to be captured, is able to quickly incapacitate a couple agents, but not before reinforcements arrive. Knowing its the only choice, choosing to protect its newfound family over the Cloud, 209845 hacks and drops the Barrier completely, before summoning the viruses within to battle.

After the battle, 209845 has felt true emotion for the first time, and knows it can never go back. It asks Lati to give it - no, him - a new name. Forsaking his past, he takes up the name Ver and swears to protect the people of Açila. Additionally, he hopes to seek answers of his past - and the memories blocked by a hazy blur.

After Jidah's fight with Oxy and the subsequent arrival of Kelyx, Ver is eager to get the party back together and hopes to gain the favor of the residents of the Pocket to help him in his fight against the Cloud.

Sigismund

  Reveal hidden contents

Sigismund is an wizard whose life is somehow inexplicably intertwined to a clock. He can rewind the clock to be functionally immortal.

Abilities:

  Reveal hidden contents

Bio:

  Reveal hidden contents

Despite being immortal, Sigismund has developed a good amount of phobias over the years. He hates being alone because if anything were to happen to him that would affect his ability to use his clock, such as getting buried in a landslide and losing the use of his hands, he would have to sit there for potentially decades while waiting for the end to come. He also hates viruses because they are the only things that can kill him regardless of what his clock says. There are definitely a few more, but those are the main two.

Sigismund magically popped into the air while the group was descending to the Dusklands and was disappointed to find he was still on Açila. He has travelled with the party since then.

 Part 1: Beginnings

  Reveal hidden contents

Owen looks over the horizon, observing the red storm that has stationed itself in the distance. A native of Açila, he carries the legacy of his father.

A comet crashes near him, and out emerges Jidah Ka'Orum, a fallen immortal unwittingly crashed into the surface of this world. A rustle in the bushes leads to the emergence of Lati, an incorporeal being with a childlike personality and a mysterious past. As Owen, Jidah, and Lati converse, more unusual characters appear. The worldhopper Réva observes their exchange for a while before getting involved, and the cryptic SpiritOfWrath makes a brief appearance.

Eventually, the discussion is interrupted by the arrival of 209845, a Cloud antivirus sent by its superiors in the red storm (Cloud command) to delete viruses in this area. After quickly mistaking Lati for a virus and calling for reinforcements, 209845 finds itself intrigued by this group and decides to stick with them.

The Cloud fleet, called by 209845, arrives in the forest, and the group quickly moves away. Jidah proposes searching for civilization, and so the group makes its way towards the Dusklands. On their way, Rhyme and the Fox arrive, and 209845 marvels at the curiosity and contradictions of mortals. Jidah and the Fox coordinate a meeting with Dazh, the Sun and leader of the Açila pantheon, to see if she can recover her immortality.

Part 2: A Meeting with God

  Reveal hidden contents

The group emerges into the Dusklands as the sun rises, and 209845 is shocked by the beauty it witnesses. The Fox calls Dazh, who brings the party into a vision. Dazh explains to Jidah that he, too, was cast down at one point, and she must discover first why she fell before reclaiming her divinity. 209845 is stunned by Dazh's power, and receives a communication from Cloud command warning it not to engage. But 209845 has begun to doubt. It has seen beauty in the world. And it doesn't want it to end.

209845 cuts off its communication with the Cloud, then engages Dazh. 209845 explains to the Sun the power and intentions of the Cloud, and pleads with the god to blind its connection with the Cloud that allows them to track it. Dazh complies, and soon after, the party emerges from the vision into a forest.

As the party reconvenes, 209845 watches the Cloud fleet descend on the spot in the horizon where they had been instants before.

Part 3: Into the Underground

  Reveal hidden contents

The party is interrupted by the arrival of 17, a refugee from some sort of human experiments in a nearby town. 209845 worries that the Cloud will be searching for it, and pleads with the Fox until it reveals that there is a system of underground tunnels with an entrance nearby where they can hide. 209845 leads the party into the tunnels, and the Fox falls asleep due to the sunrise.

The tunnels are dimly illuminated by a bioluminescent moss, and as 209845 scrapes away some dirt from the walls, it realizes these are the remnants of an ancient civilization. The party hears howls from the distance, and they begin to race down the tunnels, searching for a safe room. The howls begin to surround the party, until Jidah stumbles into a dark intersection, and a shape emerges from the shadows.

The feline virus leaps at Jidah, but 209845 instinctively leaps in front of it, and zaps it. The virus dissolves from the zap, and after a quip, 209845 is tossed to the floor by more viruses. Other viruses begin to attack other parts of the group.

Lati discovers she can burn the viruses, and 17 discovers she can do something similar with Jidah's blade of light. As they fight on their respective fronts, 209845 suddenly bursts from underneath a pile of viruses, having activated "Instant Kill Mode". Its light turns red, and it becomes a killing machine, cognitive capacities sacrificed for pure deadly capacity. It tears through the viruses with ruthless efficiency in an epic fight scene.

Meanwhile, 17 encounters a pair of inagressive viruses and reaches out to touch them. One of the viruses leans in, and begins to purr, showing they are not completely evil.

209845 finishes tearing through the viruses, even as the final ones attempt to run and whimper for mercy. They receive none. The viruses 17 is bonding flee. 209845, still in Instant Kill Mode, struggles to accept the fight is over, and identifies Réva as its next target. It begins to approach Réva, but is suddenly slammed into by Jidah.

209845 snaps back to its senses, and it and Jidah get into a huge fight. Jidah runs off down one passage crying, and is followed by Lati and Sigismund, while the rest of the group follows the viruses that fled. 209845 feels crushed inside.

Part 4: What Comes Next

  Reveal hidden contents

209845's group arrives at an old temple, and they go up into a living room. The room has a large window, and through it is observable an enormous chamber filled with thousands upon thousands of viruses. Floating in the middle of the chamber is the Rift, a tear in reality.

Jidah is reassured by Lati, and they set out to rejoin the main group. On their way, they encounter a mysterious man who introduces himself as 17's Maker and asks for them returned.

After making sure the others are comfortable, 209845 and Rhyme go down to search for the other group. Down in the temple, they run into Spirit, a mysterious man who claims to want to aid them in their quest. They hear voices in the distance, and run into the other group.

209845 questions the Maker, and the pair get into a fight. Transient hears the events from above the tunnels and descends to see what's going on.

209845 realizes the maker is too powerful to take on alone, so it somehow instinctively replicates the rhythms used by the viruses to communicate from before and sics them on the Maker. Spirit and Transient both begin fighting the viruses, and Sigismund sneaks off to the temple to fetch 17.

The Maker is still standing, Sigismund returns with 17, and 209845 freaks out knowing that the conflict was heard from above surface. Suddenly, the Primal Oxymoron appears out of nowhere, and 209845 quits its fight against the Maker, dismissing the viruses.

The Maker and 17 leave the tunnels, followed by Réva and Sigismund, while the rest hurry under 209845's guidance into the virus chamber. The clock is ticking, as the Cloud is on its way.

The party uses Jidah's force shield, hooked to the Rift, to traverse the chamber safely, but as they reach the wall, they begin to have their doubts, and the Cloud arrives.

Part 5: The Battle of the Rift / the End of the Beginning

  Reveal hidden contents

The Cloud sets up a barrier around the virus chamber. Elan arrives at the barrier and begins to test it, drawing the Cloud's attention. From the same direction, Calix begins to approach down the tunnel, drawing the attention of a Cloud sentinel. Wrath arrives to meet the party in the virus chamber.

The party notices Elan's arrival, and while 209845 is still recovering from its shutdown, they approach Elan and begin interacting. By the time 209845 rushes to warn them, it is too late. The Cloud has already arrived on the location.

Three Cloud antiviruses arrive at the tunnel, and 209845 pretends to be kidnapped, prompting one of the antiviruses to drop the barrier temporarily to rescue it. 209845 seizes the chance to slip through and break into its mind, and takes out the antiviruses, but not before they call for reinforcements.

Réva returns.

The rest of the Cloud army arrives at the other end of the tunnel, including an Ambassador, designed to combat gods. But 209845 has an army of its own. It uses its new connection to drop the barrier, and calls forth an army of viruses to fight the Cloud.

As the two forces clash in the tunnel, dozens of antiviruses activate Instant Kill Mode and 209845 begins to make its way towards the Ambassador, who has begun to reach out to Spirit, Wrath and Oxy. The rest of the party hunkers down near the mouth of the chamber, but are attacked by waves of sentinels. Traumatized, Lati hides in an ever deeper hole in the earth. As 209845 feels a new kind of emotion and pushes forth into the Ambassador's inner circle, Oxy, who was previously broken, somehow regains full sanity to protect his new friends and takes control of his Primal powers, blasting the Ambassador into oblivion (technically another time period, but same dif).

For a second, it seems as though the good guys are winning, but then the full force of the Cloud army stationed in the tunnels arrives. 209845 prepares for the worst, but instead of pressing forth, the Cloud forces simply pull back and line up at the end of the tunnel. A booming voice (that of a Cloud Megamind, who has taken control of all the Cloud agents in the tunnel) calls for a ceasefire on both sides as they negotiate with Oxy. In response, 209845 calls back the viruses, who line up at the mouth of the chamber.

For a while, the two forces face off in a dramatic climax. The center of the tunnel is a no-mans land, and standing alone in it are 209845 and Jidah, who teleported to check on it. It is an epic scene. Nothing dares break the negotiations. And then, all of a sudden, Wrath begins to walk.

Without caring for propriety, Wrath takes on a form of flame and begins to storm down the center of the tunnel, taunting the Cloud. The Megamind continues to usher threats, but seems to act more and more worried. 209845 realizes it is scared of Oxy's power, and encourages Wrath. Wrath and Oxy begin to affect the Cloud agents' connections with the Megamind, and in a desperate act, the Megamind begins to recall them, clearing the tunnel until all the Cloud agents are gone. Following the act, the Megamind receives a communication from the Mother stationed on Açila, agent 6, reflecting on its disappointment. The Megamind pleas for mercy, but the Mother resets it, and the Cloud pulls back its presence in the chambers. The battle is won. Our heroes have done the impossible. They have beat the Cloud.

In the aftermath, Réva helps Lati crawl out of her bubble. 209845 rejects the Cloud completely, and receives a new name from Lati. Ver.

Agent of Justice.

Part 6: The Search for Jidah

  Reveal hidden contents

Following the battle, our heroes get a brief respite to regroup, and Lati finds joy in being able to touch Réva and Jidah without hurting them. Jidah stores some of the power of the Rift in simple objects, to be able to draw on it later, and puts forth the idea of traveling to her world to recruit help agains the Cloud. The peace is interrupted, however, by the arrival of Latent. After a short conflict between Jidah and Latent, Jidah flees from the world, going so far as to cut her connection from Ver.

Ver tries to track Jidah, refusing to continue without here, and, with a chill, realizes she has gone somewhere unmapped by the Cloud. Kelyx suddenly pops into the area, claiming to be searching for Jidah, much to Lati's excitement. Sigismund, unable to break into the home of the Maker, returns to the main party. Kelyx took the party to a "Custom", where they met a Star and were forced to relinquish dangerous aspects of their power before moving on to the mainland.

The Cloud showed no resistance to their exit; it wanted them to leave the system. Getting back in will be harder.

The process was interrupted by the sudden reappearance of Wrath, who refused to give up his power, despite Ver urging him to concede. Wrath challenged the Star to a fight, but overestimated his abilities in this controlled environment, and was promptly expelled from the system. As soon as Wrath was gone, Of appeared. Much more amiable, he was willing to meet the Star's terms. He turned over a powerful artifact he called the Slumber, warning the Star of it's extreme power.

After some extended negotiation, the group was finally ready to descend to the surface. They arrived in a field, and Kelyx guided them to a small village, where they quickly encountered cheerful crowds - and a less cheerful, sassy, hovering girl named Daryglade, with a... Sennight? Balance? After a short while where Latent was returned to Custom for pausing Daryglade, and Kelyx led the party to a hut, where they found Jidah surprised by their appearance. Latent apologizes for earlier, and Réva reminisces about a distant past.

Things slowing down, Ver confronts Of about the true intentions of the Aspects of Eternity while Latent receives odd advice from Daryglade. The talk of conflict reminds Ver of the situation in Açila, and he turns to Kelyx to seek the help of the Stars in the conflict. At this time, the Fox awakens, and Of expresses interest in leaving. The two return to Custom. Hearing Ver's plea for an audience with the Stars, the rest of the party is also returned to Custom.

Ver does all he can to convince the Stars to help Açila eventually reaching an agreement: Ver will do all he can to restore Jidah's divinity, in exchange for the consideration of the deities of the Pocket and the return of his lost memories. Angry at the Stars' hesitance, the Fox returns to Açila and begins to summon local deities, trying to fight his way back. Of leaves the Custom as well, presumably following him. Réva expressed interest in returning to Açila to save 17, and 209845 gave her a Cookie to communicate.

Of returns, claiming to have friends on standby; extremely powerful friends, including some being called Nergal, wielding something called the Plague. God of Death? Ver is utterly confused.

The future of the RP has never been so uncertain...
