The man smirked. “Very well then.”

A lot of them had things like clothes and food for cheap prices. One booth had an old and blind Clear. Some shops had potions promising to cure any ailment. Posters advertising different magic services for cheap prices coated a blank wall.

Around twenty others were called. He was there for nearly an hour. Several of the potential suitors left looking disappointed.

“I have relics which tell stories none will believe! Look at this journal, telling tales of times under benevolent rulers!”

A messenger eventually came for him.

“That’s for the reader to decide, I think. After all, every story, fiction or not, is based on truth.”

The journal didn’t feel old or delicate. The ink was dry and inexpensive. It didn’t seem fabricated; this had been someone’s journal.

Taylor knelt on his knee and bowed. “My king, it is a pleasure to be seeing you again. You look as exquisite as ever.”

After about an hour, the beggar checked the can. He sighed, picked it up, and started to move.

She stood and covertly followed at a distance.

She couldn't explain why, but . . . something felt off about the things he'd said, and she wanted to know why.

He went down an alley. It seemed a bit seedy, but still okay.

“Very well, very well. And I must thank you for earlier today. That situation could easily have gotten out of hand.”

She poked her head in to survey it before continuing on.

From closer, it actually didn’t seem too bad. A lot of peddlers and small shops. A hostel was there as well, its levels rising above the rest of the alley.

Merchants tried to get her attention. The beggar went into the hostel, giving the owner a few coins and heading in.
