Trusk'our he/him Posted March 8, 2025 Posted March 8, 2025 Fullborn are pretty busted. That's been made clear in 17th Shard discussions time and time again. There are limits to their power, however. While they can Compound, their Metalminds have finite space for Investiture. Allomantically, they would be limited to their natural Investiture or perhaps their Nicrosilminds if those are capable of augmenting powers- Rashek was only so Allomantically powerful because of his WoA shenanigans. Spoiler https://wob.coppermind.net/events/63-firefight-san-diego-signing/#e685 Leinton (paraphrased) Did Rashek use the Well or a bead of lerasium to become a Mistborn? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) He didn't know at first, I told him there were interviews with him saying both, and he eventually answered with "I'm canonizing it as he used the Well". But, what if a Fullborn or someone with tools to make themselves Fullborn wanted to surpass these limitations, making themselves even more powerful? The first step would be to gather Allomantically viable metals. Tons of them, enough to forge a monumentally large Metalmind after the manner of the BoM. This part would be significantly easier with Soulcasting, but it isn't necessary. After creating a suitable vessel, the Fullborn then begins the process of Investing it through Compounding and Allomantic duralumin to speed it along. Simultaneously, they Feruchemically tap Connection, either to themselves, their own Identity, or something along those lines. We know such a process has a notable effect, as Brandon is planning on it being used at some point. Spoiler https://wob.coppermind.net/events/362-skype-qa/#e11150 Calderis Feruchemical aluminum stores and taps a marker that seems to suffuse all Investiture within a person, removing or strengthening Identity. Does Feruchemical duralumin work similarly? Does tapping connection while storing in a metalmind increase the connection of the Investiture stored? Brandon Sanderson RAFO. Mostly because I've got a main character who's going to be doing this, I'm not going to spoil the fun or lock myself down yet. Basically, the hope is to have a humongous Metalmind filled to the brim with Investiture, then Connecting the whole thing to yourself in a permanent manner. You might be able to use the Connection to tap the Metalmind remotely, but this is no guarantee, and given Radiant bonds being limited by distance I find it a very cumbersome limitation. So, your next step will be to open a Perpendicularity and shove it into the SR, where space and distance don't matter. This should actually be pretty easy, as the Metalmind is so Invested already that it should begin the process of Realmatic transition by the simple virtue of existing. You might need to flare metals or something as a Fullborn to finish the job (which seems plausible with enough Allomancy, given TenSoon's/Sazed's thoughts on Fullborn teleportation in TLM). Spoiler "We believe," he whispered, "there is a way to transport objects large distances using a conflux of Metalborn powers. It is a thing Harmony doesn't yet understand himself. But I wonder. . . if someone feeling the transcendent power of the Bands. . . could solve the puzzle." TLM 'pg. 322 Anyway, this leaves you with a large chunk of Investiture keyed and Connected to you in the SR. Navani's bond to the Sibling was weakened by Realmatic separation, but not severed, and given the correct circumstances they were able to still communicate (when Navani spoke with the Sibling via the Tones). Spoiler "I. . . am not fully functional without Navani," the Sibling said, their voice growing softer. "It won't be a big problem for some weeks yet, as she's partially here. In the Spiritual Realm, she's kind of everywhere. But. . . it is having an effect." WaT -pg. 873 She reached out for the Sibling, but found her mind abuzz with. . . with tones, vibrations, music that disharmonized. But Navani. . . she knew the right tones, didn't she? She thought back to her time with Raboniel, and sorted through the noise. With her eyes closed, she found them. The tones. The sounds of Roshar itself. Navani? The Sibling's voice. Yes. WaT -pg. 1,005 It might take some extra fiddling, but these are the basic steps I think a Fullborn could take to obtain something akin to Avatar-hood without direct Shardic intervention. Little limitation on Metalmind size or bulk, the ability to tap or plug in extra-powerful Nicrosilminds, no worries of physical separation from Metalminds, and if you can set up the Metalmind to feed off of the Investiture in the SR directly (a whole nother beast, but still a great opportunity), even more free power completely separate from metal consumption. There's still some limitations with this idea, even if it were to work- Shards, specifically Ruin and Preservation, can probably tamper with your Metalmind more easily and the disruption of the Connection between you and the Metalmind could leave you vulnerable like Telsin in TLM. But all in all, if it worked it would basically be an upgrade to all of a Fullborn's standard abilities with no downsides as far as I can tell (except, you know, hyper-Savantism or Intent corruption). 2
AlmightyGir Posted March 8, 2025 Posted March 8, 2025 We should turn Braize into a giant metalmind. 2

Not exactly - that’s a big reason, but he also has been cited about knowing a great deal of things others didn’t, possibly including reverse-Compounding to fuel Allomancy with Feruchemy. (Don’t have the WoBs on hand at the moment.) I’d also note the Bands are… not very big, relative to anything else. I like the theory a lot, though. It could probably work. Though I’d imagine someone with the ability to draw in Investiture would have a field day in the Spiritual Realm… until a Shard noticed them, at least. Edited March 9, 2025 by Ashbringer 1
