So you can store specific attributes as a Feruchemist or as a Ferring. When compounding, you draw power from Preservation's Investiture to enhance the attributes you have stored. Would it be possible to do a similar thing with Biochromatic Breaths, if you knew the right Commands and Intent? I know Invested objects resist being affected by Biochromatic Breaths, but could you theoretically use that power from Endowment to do a similar thing to compounding using the different metalminds? Food for thought.

This is unlikely because, by definition, Allomancy is drawing on Preservation to create the effect of the Burned metal. Compounding, based on known data, is changing the key of a metal by burning an Invested metal to create the effect that is invested. Examples:

  • Burning Gold draws on Preservation to create Gold Shadows
  • Burning a Goldmind (with stored health) draws on Preservation to create Health (that can be either used or stored into a different Goldmind)
  • If you tried burning Awakened Gold, the breath would have changed the Key for what Gold is doing, but Preservations Allomantic power would not recognize what Breath is in that context, or what effect to create from that Awakened Gold.
    • If you tried storing breath in a piece of gold (which may or may not require the seventh heightening to accomplish) then tried to burn that, then the Gold would have a changed key, but the investiture in the gold does not produce an affect at all (since it's static storage without intent or command) and the result is probably a whole lot of nothing.
  • If you try Awakening a Goldmind, then Investiture resists Investiture, and this would be orders of magnitude more difficult than just Awakening a normal metal. Depending on Command and Intent, this may or may not produce a different effect than just Burning a Goldmind.

The only WoB on the matter was a Hard RAFO:

Could a double-nicrosil Twinborn compound Breath or Stormlight?

Uh, you’re getting a RAFO card on that. You're getting SUCH a RAFO card on that!

If you are asking whether you could Command a Breath to recharge/overcharge a feruchemical Metalmind with Stores in it, Probably, though there might be Heightening level requirements to affect metals and to overcome existing Investiture. Breaths are known to adapt Identity easily, and can fuel other magics like Surges (they're just super-expensive), and they can do spiritual things with the right Commands,  so giving the Investiture as an Endowment to the metalmind should be within reach.

If you mean you could gain the augmented benefits of Heighenings (like Age or Senses or a Returned's physical capabilities) and then store them in Feruchemically in metalminds, absolutely.

@Quantus I meant the first one, where you would overcharge a Feruchemical Metalmind. I was pretty sure there would be problems with this, but if different forms of investiture can (sometimes) be used by an Invested person using other investiture, I would presume that compounding would be able to be facilitated by a different Shard than just Preservation, such as Endowment (also Breaths seem to be the most available to use investiture in the cosmere to Invested peoples)
