He watched her, sitting down cross-legged in the flowers.

This place was just as beautiful as it had been in that vision. This memory was precious. It was when she had realized she was part of something bigger. She plucked a wildflower from the ground and held it up. It was so intricate, so beautiful in a way she'd never seen before the Clinic.

"Here you are."

She froze, and the flower dropped from her hand. She couldn't turn, no, there was no way he was... He couldn't have found her...

"Stand up."

Her legs shook as she rose from her squatting position, and her hands soon followed as fear flooded her veins.

"Turn."

She had to now. She shakily turned and stared into his eyes. He couldn't have found her...

"You have some nerve thinking you can escape from me."

She swallowed.

"Nothing to say?"

"N-n-n-o, F-father...."

His cold gray eyes held hers for too long of a moment. She looked down, unable to hold his gaze. She grasped her pants to try to stop her hands from shaking.

He looked over her, noticing that her forearms were exposed. "You're not covering your arms."

"I.. I d-didn't feel ashamed of them anymore. I didn't feel like I needed to hide."

"Hm. Well. Let's go."

"H-huh?"

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, and her body reflexively stiffened. "We're going home. Now."

Her heart was beating so fast she could feel it in the soles of her feet. She felt like she was going to pass out.

Her father looked behind them. "Don't bother alerting your friend about anything."

Elan! She'd forgotten he was even there. Could she reach out to him-

"Do you want to relive what happened six years ago?"

That stopped her in her tracks. No, she couldn't.. and she couldn't do that to him...

"Good. Now, come."

She obeyed, and just as the cadmium bubble disappeared, she was gone.

Elan's eyes snapped open.

Something was wrong. Something was very wrong.

"Ave?"

He stood up, his whole body tingling with electricity.

She wasn't there.

"Aventine? AVE!" He shouted, but he knew she wasn't there. He could sense it. She was gone.

Does anyone know where Aventine is? He thought to his fellows.

No response. Just silence.

His breathing quickened as he walked through the flowers, until he found where she had been. A flower sat on the ground where it had been dropped. The air there was quiet, it had moved.

Cadmium?

He swallowed, a lump in his throat.

He needed to get back to the apartment. Now.

He turned and ran.

She heard him yell for her. But she did nothing. She just kept walking, the arm around her feeling like fire.

The first thing she noticed was the sky.

This was definitely Scadrial, but the sky was blue, the plants green. There were even flowers now. Luthadel was gone, replaced by a bustling town dotted with the occasional mansion, including her father's.

He took her into the mansion and promptly sent a tailor in to measure her. The freedom she had found, the hope she'd gotten for her life... it was all gone. She was back with him. And this time, she didn't have Waylen to help her escape.

She didn't have anyone at all.

But she wasn't alone. Her father had ensured that she wouldn't be. There were always servants in her room now, and no matter how much she begged and plead for them to leave, they didn't. He had ordered them not to. Not one of them could be swayed to help her.

Everything she'd built was lost.

Insa stood up quickly.

"What's wrong?"

She looked past him.

"Where's Aventine?"

"She's gone. We went to the field. And I was watching her. And then she was gone."

Insa nodded slowly.

"Okay. Do you guys ever communicate mentally? Like telepathically?"

"Yes, all the time. But I can't reach her right now."

“Like she’s not responding or you don’t think your message is even reaching her?”

"Scadrial."

Insa nodded.

”Alright, we’re gonna stop real quick at the Clinic and then we’re gonna check there first.“

Insa snapped and the nicer clothes she had been wearing were replaced with a simple t-shirt and jeans. She grabbed a leather looking jacket from a closet.

“Anything you two need before we go?”

"Nope. I got two people meeting us there with my stuff."

“And what about Gem?”

Gem stared. "I'm going to find my mom." He said quietly. "You lost her." He glared at Elan. "YOU lost her. And now I'M going to find her."

He sprinted out of the building angrily.

Elan looked at Insa. "We're... still getting used to life together. He'll be alright."

The spacious lawn around the estate could have been a meadow. Seeing it alone, you would never have guessed it was in the middle of a large city.

Gemini was not afraid of the estate.

He stood silently on the lawn, a dagger in each hand. He knew what to do—his training from when he had been kidnapped was still in his mind.

He walked up to the door, and knocked loudly.

"You will let me in or you will end up dead on this floor."
