Sythrin Posted January 15, 2025 Posted January 15, 2025 Based on the things retrubiotion said. He could have taken a big chunk of investiture of Roshar, but was stopped because of the oath. Could a shard leave and take all investitrue from a planet with them? (If its their investiture) I am kinda now interested in a cosmere novel of a planet with such ramifications. Like a dried oout land where now the people fight for the last remnants of the magic of their world.

Likely? No. Generally, a Shard leaving a planet/system they have Invested is very difficult and results in: Leaving behind a chunk of their power Destroying the planet to not leave behind a chunk of their power That's part of why Ruin needed to destroy Scadrial - so he could move on without leaving parts of himself behind. WoBs: Spoiler Quote Questioner When one of the shards, like Odium, move from world to world in the cosmere, does their presence, like the metals they leave behind and their magic, leave with them? Brandon Sanderson Odium never really settled on a planet. He is now settled on Roshar and his magic has permeated things. Leaving would be very difficult for him. It would either involve leaving behind some of his power or ripping that out, which would be a difficult process. So yes it is very tough to leave. Phoenix Comicon 2013 (May 24, 2013) 2

That would probably take all of it. But given time, shards could mostly de-invest, taking most, but not all investiture with them. Some shards might be better at this than others, Preservation or Honor would probably struggle to leave, while Cultivation or Whimsy might be able to leave more easily. 1
