Ripheus23 Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 For some reason, I'm remembering a scene in Shinovar, related to Ishar, where they found a cave with spren with crystal spikes in them or something. Maybe this is why Ishar thought that there WAS an Unmade in Shinovar, because he was aware of his own intentions in a confused way? Or he had even managed to do something like: Quote In The Way of Kings Prime, there was an Unmade behind a very ornate door in the First Capital, bound by crystal spikes.[38] The Arcanum has this: Quote This was very, very early Hemalurgy--and some of the things I was planning there are no longer canon. You probably could still spike an Unmade to bind it to the Physical Realm, though, so that part remains viable. Technically, "now," Shinovar would be where the first major human settlement on Roshar was, so maybe some place in Shinovar could count as "the First Capital," but I don't know what that city was supposed to be in WoKP. 1
PanicPug Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 (edited) Yes, it's when Szeth finally meets the voice in chapter 94. Quote The room … was filled with spren. Nailed to the walls. Szeth gasped and gripped the stone on either side of the opening. The room was barely ten feet wide, and had straight flat walls. Here, tens of holy spren, each of a different variety, had been affixed in place by crystal spikes. As if for ornamentation. I thought it was Sja-Anat until the Ishar reveal later in the book and thought that was how she corrupts/enlightens spren. By now I think it might rather be related to Ishar's experiments of giving spren physical bodies. Spoiler Especially since hemalurgy seems also be the means how Kelsier got his new physical body. He was probably not trapping a Unmade in Shinovar but Ishar is giving Spren substance in the PR in the same way he would have trapped a Unmade. Ishar probably would have used this method to deal with the Unmade permanently if he had thought of it before going crazy. Cool to see moments from the Prime version of the stories actually get used. 1

My impression was that Ishar was the Unmade of Shinovar. He knew there was an Unmade there because, in his lucid "near an Oath or Perpendicularity" moments he recognized what he had done to himself - becoming an Unmade Herald by taking up a portion of Odium's Well causing him and his connection to the rest of the Heralds to be the source of their magical Madness (which he misunderstands as him "holding it back from them" but Kaladin shows is him spreading it out to them) 6
