She has the power to solidify and manipulate shadows, using them kind of as tentacles, but overusing the power causes her vision to fade, which can cause temporary blindness. If she uses her powers too much, it causes permanent blindness. So there's a limit.

The shadowy magic system is kind of frowned upon in society, which is why she's a sneaking assassin instead of a soldier.

Mmm I like that Magic system. 

I think I like them being from the same nation, but he betrayed his homeland and has been in contact with the enemies for a while now— couple months to a year— and they faked a kidnapping so he could work with them more closely. If they had a loose relationship— just like a professional knowledge of each other, cuz hes the tactician and she’s the assassin so they cross paths now and then— that would make for more interesting dynamics. And then they could have a conversation about ideals.

The scene in my mind takes place at night, at a fortress-tower-walled town/base thingy. (I've had her fighting for the smaller nation, but we could have her be on the empire's side too.) Her personality in my mind is like if you gave Spensa Vin's upbringing and job. Serious, a little snarky, not easy to get along with, very skilled. (Also a cliche. You guys can work on that. It's just the vibe I have in mind.)

She uses her magic to sneak in and break the guy out, and then supposedly character drama erupts.

I think it could add some interesting depth to their interaction, depending on how their loyalties and ideologies are.

In my mind the reason Anna is rescuing him - regardless of his previous allegiance - is because he provides an advantage to her side. So if you do fit it in you still have to explain why it is that she's saving him.

We're gonna rid of the "other" nations for simplicity's sake; we all have to go off the exact same worldbuilding for the experiment to work and I don't want to overcomplicate it.

Except he's betrayed his country 1. because it's a lost cause and will be bad for his country in the long run, by his calculations. 2. in exchange for promises that the people he cares about won't be hurt 3. because he's a nerdy science dude and they have a lot of cool science stuff that he's interested in experimenting with and using to create technology. They wanted him because he's a natural strategist, which is what he did for Hearth, but that's not his passion. He's overly pragmatic.

So the guy she's rescuing isn't actually on her side he's just pretending to be on her side?
