Why are Stormlight books so expensive

I live in Switzerland an expensive country, but 40 fr. for wind and truth. Its crazy.

Unfortunately, the size, artwork included and other factors all contrinute to a price for physical books that just keeps rising (Mass market books have nearly doubled in price just since 2020). 

Is eBook and option? Or maybe a gift wishlist (possibly a giftcard to a book store which may effectively split the cost)?

Agreed, at least for Stormlight you also get lots of interior art and so on; combine that with the general price hikes in basically everything and there we are...

But look out for sales. Around black Friday for example lots of books were reduced, including Wind And Truth. I know that doesn't help right now, but stay on the lookout in the future and you might get lucky.

consider how big it is, the price per page is actually lower than most books.

and there's the artwork too. it's not overpriced compared to other books

For what it's worth, I have heard they also had to resort to things like thinner paper and no TOC, etc to avoid splitting WaT into two volumes, and that the length of Wind and Truth is literally pushing the boundaries of how much Novel you can cram into a single Book just from a manufacturing/binding perspective.

Ah, that explains the missing TOC, I was wondering about that in the eBook

The ePub does have a ToC, but it's at the end. If you accidentally click on any chapter-header images, it will whisk you away quite unfairly (since those storming images, in landscape mode, practically fill the page).

Oh thank you, that was hidden a bit too well for me I only searched at the beginning of the book and in the app's TOC

It's becoming more common because kindle requires a ToC to be the last file of the ePub for that device to load it for navigation.
