I feel like awakening can do a ton that pseudo mimics magics found elsewhere in the cosmere. Nightblood talks to peoples minds which is awesome!

Do you think a glass eye or a monocle to look through could be awakened to "show me my death"?  This would function in my mind the same way that Aviar works. Basically a limited form of future sight that kicks in to show you where not to go or somehow warn of danger down the road.

In my mind I would much rather awaken something like this to mimic atium but I imagine that it would need to be balanced out by the soulsucking powers similar to Nightblood for super obvious balancing reasons.

However we have seen that a functional shardblade was created with awakening that doesn't try to consume it's users soul.  So perhaps showing a person their own future... and narrowing it down to just their death or grave injury... could narrow it down enough to not be forced to constantly consume x amount of investiture from said user.

I think this is possible, but standard Awakening would probably struggle. The Awakened object is generally limited by the item's base properties.

(Disclaimers so that you can't say, like, "well if a Shard...") If a regular Awakener, just a mundane Awakener with nothing more than a few hundred Breaths and not any other outside influences, is there some Command they could give a blanket to get the blanket to turn warm? Generate heat; is that a normal thing you can Command?

Brandon Sanderson

Not in just a normal situation. I mean, technically, you could tell the blanket "start rubbing one part against another part" or something like that, or "set yourself on fire," right? But that's not what you're asking. For Awakening to work, you have to work within the intrinsic properties of the matter you're making, except it can move around a bit and with a few little other things it can do.

It's not outside the realm of possibility you could activate those Breaths as Investiture to do something else, but you would need more than just the simple magic system of Awakening.

Vasher and his wife knew about Shardblades before attempting to create Nightblood. Perhaps they even weilded and bonded such blades beforehand, dropping them in order to leave Roshar.

If this were the case, having Connections tied to that Investiture, even if only from past use, might have significantly aided in producing effects beyond a sword's vanilla abilities.

That's my take, at least.

Also, Sak's talent is more like A-Electrum than Atium, though they are similar because they base of the same Realmatic principals. WoBs:

Questioner

Sak, Dusk's non-native Aviar. That ability is very, very similar to Allomantic electrum.

Brandon Sanderson

It is!

Questioner

And his other Aviar is very, very similar to Allomantic copper.

Brandon Sanderson

It is.

Questioner

Is there a connection between those two, deeper? Or is it--

Brandon Sanderson

will RAFO that. Let's just say it is an intentional reference, but I'm not going to say whether it's a direct connection to Scadrial magic systems or more that fundamental rules of magics can reproduce one another. We have seen multiple instances of Lightweaving, so-- It's one of those two... That at least narrows it down for you.

Is there a connection between Sak's talent and Allomantic electrum? If so, what is it?

Brandon Sanderson

Yes. Reading a person's spiritual connections and possibilities. Similar powers, as is atium.

Hope that helps

Oh absolutely. I think electrum Allomancy all the time would probably be quite confusing... I think just seeing your possible deaths would be more useful to sift through.  You die that way... go another way.  And you don't have to have tens or hundreds of shadows popping up all the time.
