In well of ascension, when zane is slashing vin, there is this piece of description

Quote

He slammed a shoulder into Vin, then whipped his dagger around and slashed a wound across her cheek as she fell backward. The cut was precise. Perfect. Matching the wound on her other cheek, one given to her during her first fight with a Mistborn, nearly two years before

So, Vin had a scar on her face left from her encounter with shan elariel? none of the other descriptions about her mentions a scar, and none of the official artwork includes a scar either. yet, zane certainly wasn't working from a description there.

perhaps the scar was healed well enough that you'd only notice it burning tin?

i'm trying to solve the conflict between that piece of description, and canon art.

I feel like little things like scars that aren't super plot-important can very easily be forgotten when making art, even if Brando saw and approved of the art himself--I forget my own characters features when drawing them all the time.

Especially with fantasy adventure books like mistborn where characters get injured often, sometimes you can just assume they have scars even if it's not specifically described.

(I mean, carrying on with Vin wouldn't she have a significant amount of scars from growing up on the streets and being beaten often? Probably, but it's not really described because it's not super relevant and Brandon chose not to use them to further her story or themes).

To me it just seems like the artists forgot it since we're not constantly reminded that it's there (Like Kal's brands or something) and Brandon didn't notice/forgot as well, unless someone has an alternate explanation.

I don't recall the details of the fight with Shan and don't have time to check right now, but could the cut to her face have been really thin? Still enough to scar, but not enough to be a noteworthy feature of her face? That's the only in-setting explanation that comes to mind for why we don't see it described or depicted.

the reason I care is that I'm thinking of naming a mountain range on kerbal space program as "vin's scar range", because it's slanted on the face of the planet exactly as I'd imagine vin's scar to be.

i wanted to make sure vin actually has such a scar before posting a mission report that other people will read.

Note that it says "wound" not scar - so it could just be that Vin feels as if the two wounds were similar, but on opposite cheeks. We also get this tidbit later (WoA Ch 50):

Spoiler

He looked down at her fondly, admiring the form of her face, the slight curl of her black hair. The cut on her cheek was almost invisible now, and she’d already pulled out the stitches. A constant, low burn of pewter gave the body remarkable strength for recovery.

Which implies that neither cut actually left a permanent scar (thanks to Pewter). Not definitive by any means - but the only scar mentioned in HoA is Demoux's (HoA Ch 8 )

Spoiler

“Well, you know me,” Demoux said, smiling as he approached. The general wore well-used armor of leather and steel, his face bearing a scar on one cheek, the left side of his scalp missing a large patch of hair where a koloss blade had nearly taken his head.

Hope that helps
