kpShadowFox He/Him Posted October 15, 2024 Posted October 15, 2024 Since we know that The Father Machine from Yumi and the Nightmare Painter is an awakened machine, although not via nalthian BioChroma, and that Nightblood, from Warbreaker, is also an awakened object, can we assume that, depending on the Command and the Intent, awakened objects have the ability to leech Investiture? The Father Machine stacks rocks, attracting spren-like creatures called hijo, and harvests the investiture off of the hijo. Also, when the Father Machine was first powered on, it stole the investiture from the people on Komashi, destroying an entire continent's population, just to power itself. Nightblood, when drawn, leeches Investiture at an incredible rate from the wielder, and from whatever it touches. 1
Treamayne Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 Welcome to the Shard. Please consider an Intro Post to let us know what you have or have-not read (whichever list is shorter) so we can avoid spoilers (as necessary). Also, consider checking out the Sharder FAQ for some tips and tricks (as each forum is slightly diffferent). 2 hours ago, kpShadowFox said: depending on the Command and the Intent, This, I think, is the key part. After all (Sunlit Man and Lost Metal Spoilers): Spoiler The awakened Metalmind in TSM and the Awakened Safe in TLM show that it is not true across all Awakened Sentiences. It may be important to note that FM did not actually retain all of the investiture it harvested - the excess is what created the Shroud. Also, I would consider using a word other than "leech," as that can be confused with the Allomantic power, but the Realmatic process does not appear to be similar or connected. Hope that helps 1
therunner he/him Posted October 16, 2024 Posted October 16, 2024 To some extent yes, however both Nightblood and Father Machine somewhat break the rules. Specifically, Endowment was involved "more than usual" in creation of Nightblood (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/360/#e10871). Father Machine could do what it did because Shard of that system was Splintered and also was invested in the people in the system (https://wob.coppermind.net/events/518/#e16178). As such, I think typically Awakening won't be able to reach these levels, but it might be realistic to have Awakened item that acts somewhat like Chromium Misting. 3
