Retlen, Earl of the Crusade, surveyed the crowd. They were brought before him by his loyal soldiers. Retlen knew, deep inside him, that most of these people were heretics. But he could only punish the most deserving.

Lifting his helm, he scanned the crowd, and the perimeter of soldiers behind them. The closest could see his pale grey eyes, the paleness almost a discoloring.

He breathed in, releasing the breath shakily. He was ready to dispense justice to the heretics.

Aela hoped that if she didn't move, the Earl would not notice her. She kept so still, it was hard to tell she was even breathing.

Inside, she was fuming at the injustice of it all.

A voice spoke in her mind. Do not worry. I will help.

Retlen studied the crowd, then pointed at a few people. A few soldiers went through the crowd, impaling those with their swords. Retlen turned away, but then he heard a voice.

Just a few more, my son. But you can use these heretics. Perhaps they can help bring down your traitor father. Return. I will guide your hand, show you who to pick.

Retlen returned to the crowd, and he extended a pointed finger, not considering who to point to. His finger found four people, and he spoke. "Come with me."

He stared at the crowd, and he felt a sudden kinship with one of them "You. I wish to draft you in my army. Will you accept this task?"

Turning around, he returned to his spacious tent.

Cole panics for a second, then he processes the information. He walks out of the crowd, questioning his sanity. He'd been spared?

Her heart sank. Somewhere her father yelled. Soldiers held him back. Not having much of a choice, she walked forward.

Yes. The best cause there is, in fact.

The Earl of the Crusade is the man who just personally invited you to serve as a soldier under him. He is a great crusader, but he has a past that he needs to... solve. He will need your help with that.

He has a task he will need to carry out soon. It will require all the manpower he can get.

Cole stands by the other three people chosen. He looks around nervously for the burned man. How could he even be sure this was real, given the visions he'd seen already? @SpiritOfWrath

"Oh. I'm not real. You killed me, remember?"

"You as good as killed me. But don't worry. You can make it up. Follow this man for now." The carpenter gestured towards the Earl of the Crusade.

Cole notices. "There's a man there, he burnt to death and it's my fault, but nobody can see him."
