"Or perhaps it was because he cast a shadow the wrong way. Toward light, instead of away from it." (Way of Kings, Axis the collector)

"Her shadow was pointing in the wrong direction.  Jasnah stared at that shadow—skin growing clammy, stomach clenched, the way she felt when she was about to vomit. Not again. She searched for another light source. A reason. Could she find a reason? No. The shadow languidly melted back toward her, oozing to her feet and then stretching out the other way." (WOR prologue)

Why does Axis shadow point the wrong way? Does Jasnah's shadow behaving the same (if only for a short time) have something to do with Elsecalling or is it maybe related to Axis' shadow?. If Jasnah's misbehaving shadow isn't related to Elsecalling could it have some connection to the illness/psychosis/whatever it was referenced in the released chapters of Wind and Truth?

It's probably because they are more present in the Shadesmar, where shadows point towards light. Axis by his nature might be more present there (he's an Aimian), Jasnah was transitioning to Shadesmar at this point when it happened.

It's a realmic thing, but I dont think we have any confirmed details beyond that fact:

Skaiiwalker (paraphrased)

Do Axies's and Jasnah's reversed shadows have a common source?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

Yes.

Skaiiwalker (paraphrased)

Does it have anything to do with its draw towards Investiture?

Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased)

*After a pause* It has more to do with Shadesmar than Investiture.

It's definitely a metaphor about "throwing shade at the sun," but beyond that...who knows...? =/
