Nahema Posted October 8, 2024 Posted October 8, 2024 @alder24 I see your point, but I find it very hard to explain my view, as English is not my native language. In TLM any of the characters could have died, all of their arcs were finished. By the logic of the story everything led to Wayne, but that was the decision of the author. The story would have worked with Wax or Marasi just as well (some tweaking of the „how“ of course). But sacrificing his life for his friends and his world gave Wayne the final closure. Maybe not exactly a punishment, but a balancing-out - taking a life, giving a life. And I think, Brandon could make any death work, he is the author, he is sculpting the story. But I can see that Szeth has to do some balancing out. Just as Dalinar has. Because yes, you can grow, you can become better, you can do better after you accepted your atrocities. And you can be forgiven and can forgive yourself. But nothing you do now can undo the past. A life is priceless. Adolin reminds us readers that Dalinar is not only the heroic bondsmith but alo the brutal warlord who massacred a whole city (and oopsie his wife). There will be some balancing out, too. But: that is just my personal feeling. Probably I‘m totally wrong, as often 1
