After chapter 6 I instantly thought about this WOB (inside the spoiler).

Spoiler

Questioner

In The Way of Kings, there's a Death Rattle that reads, "He must pick it up, the fallen title! The tower, the crown, and the spear!" Have the events alluded to in this Death Rattle occurred, on or off screen, by the end of Rhythm of War?

Brandon Sanderson

No. *evil laughter*

Questioner

Could the tower, the crown, and the spear possibly be referring to Renarin?

Brandon Sanderson

RAFO, RAFO, RAFO!

Dragonsteel Mini-Con 2021 (Nov. 22, 2021)

The title = King of Urithiru, maybe bondsmith but that seems less likely considering he wouldn't be able to fly.

The tower, the crown = Dalinar's Glyphs

The Spear = Start fighting again after spending time as a therapist?

"For her, it was the day when a set of parents had, for the first time, wanted her."

Don't mind me, just crying over here.

I like how Kaladin skipped the uncertainty of doing a job that doesn't exist yet and went straight to the next step. He didn't complain that helping Szeth would require a new field of study, he just complained that coming up with a treatment would take time. I enjoyed that. Like he's already mentally set into his role as a therapist.

We've got evidence of a double spren bond with Shallan, it seems like it could happen. I think the odds are low, but it could. Kaladin's fairly Bondsmithy compared to some.

Now I want to see the Windrunners flying Dalinar into Shadesmar to pick up Gallant...

I know a lot of us were thinking it, but thanks for writing it. I think there have been a lot of things alluding to Dalinar's potential fall. With regard to Renarin, I think this chapter answers that question. Renarin has seen something in the future that causes him to refuse being the heir. Kaladin becoming king is the best way to get in married to the ever-pragmatic Jasenah, the man deserves a family. I also think that there must be some misdirection occurring on Brandon's part. Everything is too neat. Kal ending up as the champion, winning, and then ascending seems too predictable. Also, the role reversal between him and Dalinar also seems predictable. There is another series where this happens briefly... How many people have to share the power of a Shard for it to not end up binding them?

I have always believed that to mean kaladin.

The fallen title is Bondsmith bond,

The tower: Urithiru,

The crown: King/Leader of radiants

and the spear: Sylspear

But now after the introduction of The Wind, who could potentially be another godspren level entity, I think that kaladin the Windrunner will bond the Wind and become a bondsmith and windrunner as well.
