I was thinking about hemalurgy and the metal used in spiking.
what would the effect of using a lerasium spike be?
any thoughts?

From the Hemalurgy table we know that Lerasium "steals all abilities".

What this exactly means is a bit unknown, but I suspect that it is better at preserving stolen Spiritweb fragments from its victims, which may be why it is categorized as taking everything; it doesn't rip the Spiritweb apart in little chunks, but instead keeps a much larger section sequestered in the spike.

The ramifications of this could be a bit weird, but maybe you could use this as a way to more easily staple one person's soul/consciousness to another's body. This is purely speculation though, so take it with a sizable grain of salt.

At the very least, I think it's likely that a Lerasium spike could add multiple bonuses to the bearer, kind of like Kandra Blessings, but for all possible attributes rather than just one.

Also, welcome to the Shard!

Maybe it could make someone a mistborn then, but why not eat the lesarium at that point. May be more useful for feruchemy then.

I think that the abilities are referring to attributes, like strength or intelligence, since Atium directly says it can steal any power and the other metals that take powers refer to them as such as well.

Trusk'our has already answered it, but I'll add a few words myself. We don't fully know, Brandon is dodgy on that question, but from the Hemalurgic table we know it steals all attributes (things like strength, senses intelligence etc - those things that make Koloss and Kandra, not powers of Allomancy and Feruchemy). Because Atium is described as stealing any power and an Atium spike is known to hold only one power, the wording "steals all attributes" seems to suggest that a Lerasium spike can steal every attribute at once, which seems quite interesting. However even Brandon said that using Lerasium as a spike is a huge waste, so I would not expect it to be terribly great in Hemalurgy. WoBs:

If a lerasium spike is used to steal a trait--

Brandon Sanderson

You're straying way into RAFO territory here.

Argent

Will the recipient of the spike gain anything other than the ability stolen?

Brandon Sanderson

I'm not going anywhere near this one. This one’s a RAFO.

Questioner 1

What would happen if you used lerasium as a spike for Hemalurgy?

Brandon Sanderson

Oh lerasium as a spike for Hemalurgy? Um lerasium as a spike for Hemalurgy--

Questioner 1

Would it work or would it just not work?

Brandon Sanderson

No I mean it would work--

Questioner 1

If you were to place a lerasium spike would you transform into a full Mistborn as opposed to--

Questioner 2

Well it can also steal powers, not just grant them, right?

Brandon Sanderson

Um, right. The thing about it is you're trying to Invest something that is already very Invested, which always has weird effects. So while you could do it, it would be a gross waste of the potential. It's like using a nuclear bomb as a paperweight. It is functional but--
