Jenny took Elsie’s question seriously and was most certainly not joking. She was seriously regretting their decision to venture into a crowded city that had cameras everywhere. They should’ve been more careful. They were on a quest and had decided to risk going to a freaking tourist attraction!

Oh. Jenny was probably making Elsie scared. She was talking loudly, which might mean she was upset.

”Yes, but we’ll probably be fine. We’ve managed to get this far while being wanted criminals. We just need to keep up with what we’ve been doing.”

She wasn’t sure what exactly it was they were doing that was keeping them from being caught, but Elsie didn’t need to know that. She seemed to be, understandably, prone to panicking.

She wasn’t sure what exactly it was they were doing that was keeping them from being caught, but Elsie didn’t need to know that. She seemed to be, understandably, prone to panicking.

Shoot. Jenny had handled that really terribly. The poor thing was terrified.

”Elsie, I promise I’m gonna do everything I can to keep that from happening, ok? I’ve been on the run before, I have experience with this.”

She had technically been on the run from monsters, not people, but she figured that was close enough for some of what she had learned to be applicable. Jenny looked around, trying to spot if Elsie had reappeared somewhere.

The doors to the elevator opened and she quickly stepped inside, moving out of the range of the stares.

Edgar was hanging in her arms. He didn’t seem to notice any of the conversation. Useless. Useless. Useless. Useless.

Jenny was having to carry him because he was useless. She had been hurt protecting him, and him being hurt had made her feel bad. He was the problem, he always was the problem.

It would be better for her if you left now. Don’t drag it out.
