Okay, maybe your character can notice something out of the corner of their eye that looks like a person. It might be scary, by his nature.

Right when Jenny’s thoughts were beginning to come back, she saw something out of the corner of her eye and finally made a noise. It was a whimper of terror, loud despite her efforts to stay silent. She was losing it, finally losing it. Her hallucinations were back, but this time it was more than blood. Everything was blurry through the tears, but it appeared to be some sort of scary humanoid. Jenny squeezed her eyes shut. The feelings were still there, and now they were only doubling in strength. She was insane.

This is the worst possible time for this to happen to Jenny :P (in character, not out of character)

Then Jenny fell off of the edge. Her thoughts were completely gone. She could no longer understand what the feelings in her head were. All she knew was that there was a lot of something, and it was very bad. Tears started streaming down her face, although that was unnoticeable due to her face being hidden by her knees.

Edgar felt something tugging at his sleeve, pulling him towards where Jenny had gone. He leapt to his feet and ran to her. She was crying… and in trouble. He wrapped his arms around her, hugging her close.

Whenever she next looks around, after a moment she'll be able to see him properly, and it'll seem like he had always been there somehow, just unseen.

By this point, Jenny was unresponsive. Seeing whatever that hallucination was had pushed her too far.

She cracked open her eyes and saw the hallucination again. It felt so familiar. Like he’d always been there, somehow. Had she always been crazy? Had she just been ignoring it this whole time? She turned away from it. Maybe she could learn to ignore it again. But it was getting clearer. She wanted to flee from it, but she couldn’t get her legs to move, even sit up straight.

When she looked at him, he immediately jumped, then cursed softly. He wore a dark cloak with a hood pulled well over his head, like he was trying to hide. His bright blue eyes made contact with hers from beneath it.

“Jenny! Jenny, I need you!” he cried, rocking her back and forth.

Jenny just stared right at the hallucination, eyes wide. She was clearly looking at something that terrified her.

If he really tries to look for what she sees, he'll be able to notice Terrance.

Edgar held her, praying that whatever had come upon her would pass, he moved so he was staring into her eyes. What did she see?

Jenny looked like she was staring right through Edgar. What if… what if it was real? It was too late for Ed to not think she was insane. The person-thing terrified her. Would it try to hurt Ed? She whispered to him, voice barely understandable through its shaking.

”It’s behind you.”

He turned slowly, then jumped slightly, not letting go of Jenny. “Who are you?”

Terrance groaned softly, and rose from his crouch. "Just... another half-blood."

Ed was talking to it. It- he was real. He said that he was a half-blood. That didn’t make sense. Why would he be approaching them? Were they taking too long on the quest, was he backup? Some of her feelings began to abate, but not enough where she felt like she could hold a conversation. She tried to wipe away her tears, now thoroughly embarrassed. She’d been sobbing because a regular person had walked up.

As he stood and somewhat reluctantly lowered his hood to reveal messy brown hair, she and Ed found it difficult to shake a nagging dread about him.

Why was she feeling worse again? Her emotions once again flared up, and she buried her face in her knees. Normal people didn’t make her feel like this. Maybe she’d been hallucinating everything. Was Ed even real?

“Jenny, I won’t let him do anything to you,” he said. That was the right thing to say, right?

Jenny just shook her head.

”Not real, not real, not real…”

That was the only thought currently left in her brain.

He just looked at her, expression difficult to read.

Jenny looked up. Her emotions were finally beginning to fade, but there still was a sense of lingering dread surrounding the newcomer. She hadn’t been thinking straight, had she? A vague scared feeling wasn’t enough to mean that she was crazy.

She nodded. Then she realized they were probably in danger and put her hand on the hilt of her dagger. Jenny repeated Ed’s question.

”Why are you here?”

Edgar still clung to her, as much for his own good as hers. Gift flowed up to his arm again, almost as if in anticipation. Which was stupid, because Gift couldn’t think.

"I wanted to come."
