“Please, don’t be sorry, it really is ok.” She was smiling again, that was good.

“We’re getting left behind, but…well I’m not sure if I can really go faster. I can try though.”

“It’s ok, I don’t want you to hurt yourself more.”

Jenny called out to the group members ahead of them that she could still see, who were about to turn a corner.

”Please slow down a bit!”

She didn’t specifically mention her or Edgar’s injuries for fear that Aaron would try and force them to use crutches or stretchers.

“Probably for  the best, thanks. Are your injuries doing ok still? Has moving aggravated them?”

Jenny had forgotten about her injuries again. Walking that much had admittedly increased the dull pain in her limbs. Talking had also made her cheek ache.

”It hurts a bit more. It’s not bad enough to be much of a problem, though.”

She’d eat a tiny amount of ambrosia later so she wouldn’t be hindered during any fights they got into.

“I’m glad it’s not too bad, I still wish you hadn’t gotten hurt. Though…well, in the end, it help lead up to this,” he said, lifting their intertwined hands a little, “so it’s not all bad I guess. It definitely makes me getting hurt worth it.” He smiled at her.

“Same.”

She smiled back. Her getting hurt was definitely worth it. It was a nice way of looking at things. Edgar had been in danger, though. She hadn’t been sure if he was going to make it. Remembering that made her face look sorrowful for a brief moment. Hopefully he wouldn’t jeopardize himself like that for her again.

Edgar noticed her face fall. Was something wrong? She’d tell him if it was important…right? He hoped she would.

“It looks like they are slowing down.”

Thankfully the group seemed to have heard her. They’d listened to her, too. Soon, the two managed to catch up to the rest of the group. Jenny waved at them with her free hand.

Edgar started to think. What would the others think, when they saw her and Jenny holding hands? Would they be surprised? Happy? Angry? Something else? Did he care?

No, he didn’t, not right now. He squeezed her hand gently again, giving himself another reminder that she was there, holding his hand.

Jenny squeezed his hand back, immediately becoming distracted again. Paying attention was not something Jenny was naturally skilled in. She needed to focus on the quest, on figuring out the bus situation, but that was rather difficult in the moment. It was a nice problem to have, though.

“Sure!”

Edgar hadn’t quit smiling. Did that mean he was as happy as she was? She really hoped that was the case.

He leaned over she whispered In her ear, “I think you’re really pretty.” He blushed when he said it.

They’re also holding hands, so that’s very noticeable as well.
