Just a small interesting poll as to how we all came to discover the Cosmere. I don't mean the books themselves. Did you read about it in an interview or other WoB? Get an inkling that something might be connected from the books themselves? Notice the recurrence of the name Hoid?

I remembered Hoid from reading Mistborn when he dropped his name to Kaladin in Way of Kings. After that I took a look online to see if anyone else had noticed that and fell face first into the Cosmere.

I'll admit it. I was as oblivious as an Aluminum-Burning Inquisitor.

I didn't even notice Hoid in Mistborn. I didn't even notice it was the same character that appeared twice in the series - or in Elantris. In fact, I had read both Elantris, Mistborn and Warbreaker - before I noticed Hoid, and even then, only when I realized how popular he was on the Forums./

I sorta noticed all the Hoids, but just sorta assumed it was just a name he liked so re-used, I didn't even consider that it was all the same man. I went to his website to see what other books he had (I'd read at this point the Mistborn trilogy, and Elantris), and he had a link to this place. Mind. Blown.

WoK was my first Cosmere read, and there were things I had questions about so I stumbled upon the Coppermind wiki. By that point I knew who Hoid was after following the white rabbit known as any wiki. Kinda disappointing, because it would've been fun to learn that on my own! Grr, spoiling myself.

Back in like--what would it be? 2009 or something, After reading Elantris and Mistborn and about three months before Warbreaker was officially published, I was flipping through the Ars Arcanum in HoA and saw Hoid defined as "A mystery yet to be revealed". I searched this out throughout the Mistborn books but was unable to make any good connections.

Bored, I returned to a reread of Elantris and saw Hoid in there, which made me freak, fail a math test, and proceed to search the internet. At the time there was like one TWG forum post that talked about Hoid, but practically nothing was known. When Warbreaker was released I immediately got on the free copy and searched the word 'Hoid', just to see if this was really happening. And so it was. It kind of blows my mind how deep this has all gotten.

I stumbled across these forums having finished the Mistborn trilogy. After getting an understanding of the basics, I decided not to continue browsing until I'd finished all published Cosmere works.

EDIT: Actually, I first came across the Coppermind Wiki, which eventually led me here.

I actually searched this site out after reading every brandon book there was. I wanted to find all the geeky stuff that I didn't know about, started digging through the coppermind while lurking the forums. When I sfinally found out what Adonolsium and the rest was..... mind blown. It wasn't till about a year or two later that I finally really joined up on the forums and started on my trek to the top 25.

Hoid was so busy hiding from other people that he forgot to hide from me.  Despite this, he's still been fairly elusive to track down at times, as he is quite wily and seems to be whenever he wants, which is very annoying.  And a much more useful skill than being wherever he wants.

I recently finished my first reread of Elantris (ever.  It was my least favorite Sanderson novel, and I've reread everything else at least once) and realized just how much I missed the first time through.  The thing is literally dripping with references to Devotion and Dominion, as well as the Three Realms (Physical, Cognitive, Spiritual).  It's a little bit insane just deep and good his worst work is, and how well it fits within everything else.

WoK was also my first Cosmere book. After devouring it on holiday, when I returned home I went and bought all the other Sanderson books available. I read Mistborn first and recognised the name 'Hoid' but couldn't place it. When he came up again in Elantris I thought the name was just an Easter egg Brandon put in for his readers, but when the same thing happened in Warbreaker it made me wonder if he was also in WoK. It was only when I found him again in WoK that I decided to have a look online. I found this site first, but went straight to the Coppermind Wiki. And my mind was blown. Then I came back here and started reading all the theories and my mind was blown again :)

At the end of WoR I came on here because I recognised a sword.

I found when Sazed became Harmony that I had alot of questions but didnt go online to find out anything.

I only just read Elantris and I noticed Hoid, but he didnt do anything so Im not sure why he was there. Wit is much better, SA are my favourite books so far.

I read the original Mistborn trilogy first. During a school project that I'd woven it into, I discovered the Copperminds. One Wiki Walk later and I had discovered that there were more books in this universe. I promptly had to read ALL of them.

I read mistborn first and was excited to read several other sanderson books after. When I finished wok I decided to go back and reread mistborn. I first noticed that something weird happens with Vin and an informant named hoid. I had already noticed obvious similarities between some of the books but just chalked it up to sanderson being formulaic. After noticing hoid I thought that there may be more to it and decided to investigate online. After a little reading on coppermind and 17th shard...I developed a lot more respect for Brandon 's writing ability. I've since reread all of the consumers books looking for...well...you know.

I was reading WoR for the second time when I'd suddenly taken an interest in Wit.I hate mysterious characters with no background, they seem too convenient to the plot. Unbeknownst to me was the fact that he'd been in earlier works. One small step into Wit, One giant splash into the cosmere.

I learned about the Cosmere from Wikipedia while researching on the author who had been tasked to finish the Wheel of Time.

I then proceeded to spoil myself on every single Cosmere book that had been published by then.

I love spoilers! I regret nothing! :D

Mine is none of the above! My brother told me about the cosmere when he was introducing me to Mistborn which led to my love of Brandon's work, so I knew from the start (of my experience).

I was led to the forum from coppermind, though I had been browsing coppermind for almost a year before I found my here.
