After several moments, he shakily lets Corbeau enter, about nine minutes after the beginning of the challenge. Corbeau enters the dark room, stepping underneath the ladder, and immediately falls on his face. He makes no noise or visible sign of pain, instead just laying there for a few seconds.

“Well that was anticlimactic,” Asylum said, standing up and stretching. “I’ll be off then.”

as Asylum started climbing out the window, the Veden officer got startled and shot the mirror where he thought Asylum was, causing it to shatter.

Asylum turned around, mid-climbing through the window, and yelled, “Eza, I’m fine. Just get out and hide. I’ll find you.” Then they jumped out the window and disappeared into the night.

Corbeau did not like this city. Crime was so widespread that the people that devoted their lives to stopping it refused to do anything about it. If the officers had just tried harder, had hesitated less, had worked as a team, perhaps this one could have been caught too. There was still hope for the other ones, the girl in the hallway, the depressed one in the lobby, and the other one that…

That was right near here.

Chefson Corbeau stood up, searching for the Selish man who had helped him try to catch the Hemalurgist. His help still could be necessary…he seemed intelligent enough. Perhaps even enough to become a running mate for when Corbeau would eventually run for office. As one of the first people—one of the only people so far—in his web of influence in this city, he deserved to be honored.

Eza froze, hearing a gunshot, but then let out a sigh of relief when Lum yelled they were ok. They’d won the game. They were safe.

Preparing to sprint away, she felt a pang of guilt. That Terris officer seemed really sad that Eza had stolen her favorite gun. And she had asked for it back nicely. The weapon wasn’t very shiny anyways, just a dull grey metal.

Eza turned around and skidded the gun across the floor back towards the woman. She then kept running, yelling over her shoulder.

”I’m sorry I stole your gun, please don’t kill anyone with it!”

She then leapt out of a window, landing with unnatural grace on a low building’s roof by iron pulling on a metal fixture embedded in it. Without breaking stride, she disappeared into the streets.

Wait. What did she say? Is she letting that girl escape? How dare she?! And she had been my favorite, too. The only one that actually did anything. Still, perhaps I can use her…compassion, however ugly it is. It does make people easier to manipulate.
